All About Bixby
An FBR Spotlight Boxer

Bixby was picked up at a local shelter on an extremely cold and rainy day. He slowly climbed into the car and carefully curled up in a warm blanket, but he was quivering and scared...it looked like he thought someone was going to snatch him out of the nice warm place. He was so very thin, and lost 4 more pounds his first week at the vet's office.

Soon Bixby's luck turned and he ended up in a wonderful foster home with several other boxers for playmates.

Bixby is a cuddle bum...he licks the air about 3 inches from your face and thinks he's kissing you. With four meals a day, he's packing on the pounds. As tall as he is, he will be a big boxer.

As Bixby began to add weight, it became apparent that one leg was much smaller than the other. His foster parents noticed that when he stood he only put his weight on three legs. Poor boy! Dr. Goss said the issue was most likely the result of an accident or abuse. But you would never have known it from Bixby... never a whine or complaint.

It was clear Bixby needed surgery. They removed a piece of bone this size of a nickel off the top of his femur so it would fit back into the joint. The bone was mis-formed and not in the joint before. He should have been in tremendous pain...and probably was. The incision isn't pretty... about 8 or 9 inches long. You can see in the photo that he had a pain patch stapled to his side. He needed the cone to keep him from messing with the wound. He sure looked like a sad fellow!

Bixby will stand and walk a little funny, but he'll have no pain and he'll have his mobility.

Bixby is a unique looking boxer with the most beautiful eyes. He’s come a long way from being a quivering and scared little guy to a happy and pain-free, much-loved boxer boy. Now he's looking for his forever home. Bixby would be happiest with other young dogs, but no cats or kids. He needs lots of love...just like every boxer does!
