Compassionate Care

Permanent Foster Boxers

Due to your generous support, FBR has never had to close our door to Boxers who need extra medical attention before they can be adopted into their forever homes. Unfortunately, there are some whose medical conditions make them unadoptable, and they will remain in FBR Foster Homes on a permanent basis. These special needs Boxers tend to have higher veterinary costs, but FBR continues to provide the medical care, medications and treatment needed for the rest of their lives. The Foster Homes provide all the love, attention and daily care a senior or ailing Boxer needs. Some are considered hospice care dogs, and others may live comfortably for several years.

We’re always looking for people who can provide temporary comfort to a Boxer in Compassionate Care. If you can offer your home, please contact us at info@flbr.org.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation for one (or more) of our Boxers in Compassionate Care. Become a part of ensuring that these Boxers will live in comfort and dignity for the rest of their lives, enjoying a home, lots of love and a peaceful parting.

Please click on the credit card image below to donate securely online through PayPal, or you can mail a check to us at the following address. Be sure to include the name(s) of the Boxer for whom you are making a donation.

Our heartfelt THANK YOU for your generosity as we would not be able to care for these deserving Boxers without your support!

Brooklyn crossed to the Rainbow Bridge today, August 24. He spent the last few months of his life being loved and cared for by his foster family and his fur-foster brother Tater.

Brooklyn has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is in a permanent foster home to be cared for by FBR for the rest of his life. If you would like to help with Brooklyn’s continuing care, please click the donation button above.

Comments: Hello everyone, my name is Brooklyn. I am a very laid back gentleman. My foster Mom calls me a "gentle-man" cuz I love every dog, cat and person I meet. About me...my owner could no longer afford to care for me, so he and a lady friend of his thought it best that FBR meet me and find me a new forever home.

When FBR got me I had a little cough so the vet gave me a round of antibiotics. When it persisted, Foster Mom knew something wasn’t right so I had chest x-rays. There was a lot of congestion with bronchial pneumonia and three tumors were found in my right lung. I go back in 6 weeks for another x-ray. Foster Mom says I’ve been a real trooper. Since I have these tumors I’m now a permanent foster and will stay with Foster Mom.

I really enjoy life and I can tell you that even with the tumors I’m living the best life I’ve ever had right now! I go out to dinner with Foster Mom and we walk the pier, and I have a little white Boxer brother named Tater, though you may remember him as Duncan. Tater and I are the best of buddies and do everything together…play, sleep, run and even potty together! Tater is deaf and he’s teaching me to ring the bell at the door to go out and I’m learning sign language too. Foster Mom always laughs because I have this big ole massive head but I’m so gentle and give the tiniest little kisses.

FBR and Foster Mom will see that I have good care and lots of love. At the end of day when I’m lying next to Foster Mom with my head just touching her foot I sigh with happiness that I’ll be here for the rest of my days.

Special Boxer slurps to Benay Alperin for helping with Brooklyn's expenses!

Max Sr. has been diagnosed with a mass in his chest and is in a permanent foster home to be cared for by FBR for the rest of his life. If you would like to help with Max Sr.’s continuing care please click the donation button above.

Comments: Max Sr. found himself needing a foster home when the only guardian he’d ever known became sick and could no longer care for him. After living 11 years in one place this senior Boxer was very fortunate that the Volunteers with FBR found a home for him with a wonderful foster dad in only one day! Max wasn’t quite sure what was happening as his life turned on a dime, but he responded to the kindness with kisses and his nub wagging.

Although Max is a bit hard of hearing and doesn’t bark much, he’s a great watchdog. He likes to watch dogs and play and he likes kids too, but doesn’t know anything about cats. Max’s bones are a little stiff but medication helps keep him comfortable. He enjoys car rides, walks and going wherever foster dad goes. He sleeps next to the bed so no lions, tigers and bears will get you…or him. Max is a happy and laid back Boxer, still playful and spry as long as he gets his 11 naps a day. One nap for each year!

Shortly after coming into rescue Max slipped and fell, hurting his back. His foster dad took him to the vet and during the course of the exam x-rays were taken which revealed a mass in his chest. Max is on medication to keep him comfortable, but due to his advanced age and poor prognosis it was determined he required a permanent foster home. The good news is Max will remain right where he is! Max is a fortunate Boxer to have such a loving and caring home in which to stay. Though Max’s time may be short, his foster dad knows the rewards of caring for this gentle old soul makes foster dad the fortunate one.

Special thanks and Boxer slurps to the following people for their generous donations toward Max Sr.'s care.

Olivia has been diagnosed with MRSA and is in a permanent foster home to be cared for by FBR for the rest of her life. If you would like to help with Olivia’s continuing care please click the donation button above.

Comments: Olivia is a very sweet little boxer who enjoys life. She loves hunting lizards and is full of wiggles. A little cuddle bum who loves nothing more than laying on her mommy's lap and watching TV. Olivia is enjoying her new life in a loving home. She soaks up the attention her skin family gives her. She is a very happy boxer.

Olivia has a severe staph infection called MRSA. She requires special care daily. Anitbiotics, supplements, shampoo and ointments are necessary to control this ugly disease. Once the MRSA is under control, daily she will need checked for any skin issues that may spark another bout.

She also requires injections for hip displacia. The injections allow her to move freely with no pain.

Olivia's medical care is costly. Please consider donating towards her care

Roxy has been diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy and is in a permanent foster home to be cared for by FBR for the rest of her life. Roxy is on several different heart medications. If you would like to help with the expense of Roxy's continuing care please click the donation button above.

Comments: Roxy was surrendered at Animal Control with her brother ChuCho. They absolutely adore each other and are friendly with everyone. Both ChuCho and Roxy were in rough shape when they came to FBR with both heartworms and mange. Unfortunately, Roxy has not recovered like ChuCho. She has been diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy and is taking several different medications for her heart. The vet said Roxy is using only 26% of her heart.

Roxy is settled and happy in her foster home and will be cared for with love, respect and compassion for the rest of her life. You can read more about Roxy's story here.

Big Boxer slurps and thanks to the following people for contributing toward Roxy's and ChuCho's medical bills!
