Name: Jake Age: 6 yrs Gender: Male Coloring: Brindle Weight: 60 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 6/26/08 Dog Number: F08-097 Location: NEEDS FOSTER HOME!!! Patty L. is contact
Comments from foster home:
Jake had only lived in his most current home for a year, having been given away by his previous human. It's been reported that his previous home was neglectful in some respects. Jake likes most other dogs, but he has not been around small dogs. He has had some obedience training, but continues to pull on a leash. He will go into a crate but is not really crate trained. Jake is loving and needs someone to love and care for him. He needs a foster home - can you help?
Name: Cherish Age: 6 -7 yrs Gender: Female Coloring: Fawn Weight: 43 lbs Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Unknown Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 6/2/08 Dog Number: F08-086 Location: Renee is contact
Comments from foster home:
We were lucky to be able to pull Cherish from Citrus County Animal Services where she was picked up as a stray. She has unbelievably sad eyes and is just skin and bones. Her skin will have to be evaluated as she is missing a lot of her fur. Cherish rode well in the car and walked well on a leash. She needs a foster home where she can receive lots of TLC in order to get the glimmer back in her eyes.
Name: Jersey Age: 5 yrs Gender: Female Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 52 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 6/14/08 Dog Number: F08-092 Location: Spring Hill, FL with Wendy
Comments from foster home: Jersey & her son Nemesis were surrendered to FBR due to divorce and other personal issues. Jersey is a sweet, strong light Fawn girl with a natural tail. Jersey has a foster home! More info to come, but so far we can safely say that she enjoys the company of other dogs and needs to be adopted to a home with another dog for companionship.
Name: Buster Age: 1 yr Gender: Male Coloring: Fawn Weight: 74 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 6/11/08 Dog Number: F08-091 Location: Susan K. is contact
Comments from foster home: Hi, Buster here...I am happy to be with Florida Boxer Rescue 'cuz I know they will teach me how to be a good boy and get along with others. I'm just a kid (a very BIG kid) and I need some nice human to show me the ropes so I know how to act. I got along okay with my big Rottie mix sister ('cause she wouldn't take no guff), but I was never sure what to do with my little ShiTzu sister. I guess I was a little hard on her; I just didn't know how to behave around her. And kitties...well aren't you supposed to chase them when they run? I wasn't gonna hurt 'em! I'd really like a home where I can learn and please all my family members. Please, can't I come live with you? I'll be as good a boy as I can...I promise! UPDATE 7/1/08:
Hey Ya...It's Buster here. I've been in my foster home for two weeks now. I have one word to say...WOW!! I have had a BIG week. Mama J, (that's my foster mom), has me on the move. When she picked me up from the vet's, I had no idea how to drive in a car. It took me about 10 minutes and I figured it out. Now we go for a drive every night. I had my first vist to Petco and I was such a good boy that she said we could come back and pick out some more toys this weekend. My humans didn't teach me how to play with toys but I'm learning. I started my training last week on the leash and boy do we walk. We go into town and listen to all different kinds of live music. I get to see people of all ages and fur friends too...I've got to keep social!!! Everyone tells me what a hansome boy and how well behaved I am. Mama J tells me not to let it go to my head and I think she's right. I have learned "down," "stay," "off" and "back" so far. I even learned not to cross the street until I sit at the curb and I'm told to cross it. Mama J says I have potential...not sure what that means but it sure does sound good. I love to supervise in the kitchen but I stay at a safe distance. I still don't like when she leaves but I'm learning that she always comes back for me. I give her lots of kisses and hugs. Well, it's time for us to go for a ride and meet new fur buddies and humans...gotta run but I will keep it touch!!
Name: Nakita Age: 6 years Gender: Female Coloring: Fawn Weight: Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 5/27/08 Dog Number: F08-077 Location: Sandy C. is contact
Comments from foster home:
We were able to pull Nakita out of Hernando County Animal Services after she was dumped there by her humans. She appears to be a sweet girl who just wants to be loved.
Words from Nakita : I want a forever home and to be loved and secure. Will you adopt me, please?
UPDATE 6/16/08: We have been fostering Nakita for 2 weeks now and she is a wonderful and sweet Boxer. She has been wonderful with our 4 year old son and is protective over him. Nakita is a little jealous over our new foster Boxer but is not aggressive (she just pushes him out of the way)! She loves to go with you wherever you go and does listen to most basic commands. She walks well on a leash and is fully housetrained! It has taken her a bit to warm up but is now ready to play with us and she had a lot of fun with a battery operated dog that my son had let her play with! She also loves to snuggle and believe it or not does not hog the bed!
Name: Blaze Age: 7 1/2 years Gender: Male Coloring: Brindle Weight: Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Unknown Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 5/31/08 Dog Number: F04-331ra Location: Janet is contact
Comments from foster home:
Blaze was in our rescue program as a young adult in 2004 and has recently been returned as is required by the adoption contract. His pet parents are divorcing and they felt they could no longer keep him. Once our volunteers get reacquainted with him we will post more information.
Name: Socks Age: 2-3 years Gender: Male Coloring: Brindle Weight: 81 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 5/30/08 Dog Number: F08-080 Location: Cindi M. is contact
Comments from foster home: Sox has spent most of his life in a highly inappropriate setting and was just so sweet when I picked him up. He has adjusted to his foster home well and has had a crash course in Potty Training 101 but is doing great in that department! Sox is getting along well with the resident female Boxer. He is also good around the skinkids in the foster home. Unfortunately due to his previous human's neglect, Sox will have to go through uncomfortable heartworm treatment. Please check back for future updates on Sox. He is a real beauty. UPDATE 6/18/08: Hello. My name is Sox and I love living in my foster home. I really like affection, and going for walks. Don't get upset if I want to join you on your comfy bed, or sofa. I'll get down if you tell me to, but if you're not looking I might sneak back later! I am pretty good about going potty outside if you give me a regular schedule, but occasionally I might mark my territory inside so just take me out more often. I am still going through some regular treatments for heartworm, but I am doing better than expected. There is a little Boxer girl who lives with us now and we get along great. We usually sleep together. My foster family thinks that is cute. My foster family has fallen in love with me because I am such a good boy. I am also pretty big, but that is a good thing. I like to protect my foster family with a healthy bark now and then if I hear something they don't. Please make sure you can give me a lot of love and attention BEFORE you apply to adopt me, because I will be a great addition to your family.
Name: Roxy Age: 2.5 yrs Gender: Female Coloring: Fawn Weight: 48 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 4/10/08 Dog Number: F08-059 Location: Janet is contact
Comments from foster home:
Roxy is our featured medical spotlight Boxer. Please read more about her here: http://www.flbr.org/roxy.html
Roxy's spotlight page was updated on June 12, 2008
Name: Hope Marie Age: 3 years Gender: Female Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 55 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 4/11/08 Dog Number: F08-058 Location: Claire is contact
Comments from foster home: Hope Marie had the very great misfortune of being used as a breeding machine and was then dumped at Hernando Animal Services. We were lucky to be able to pull her from the shelter. She recently went to an open foster home where she reportedly gets along with the resident dog and has been ignoring the kitties there. We will post more info soon. UPDATE 4/28/08: We just started fostering Hope Marie so I wanted to send you an update and a few new pictures for the website. She is still pretty thin, so we'll have to send an updated pic once she puts on some weight. We're just getting to know her, but she is just the sweetest little girl. She's full of Boxer wiggles and is so happy to have a family, but is also very submissive and gets a little scared if she loses sight of us. Hope Marie is learning how to "sit," "stay," and "lay down," has excellent manners and seems to be completely housebroken. She gets along very well with the cats and other dogs. She was a puppy mill mommy for a long time, so she's not really sure sure how to play with other dogs, but her Boxer foster sister, Lexi is helping out with that. I will send an update as she gets used to everything and we get to know her better. UPDATE 6/2/08: Hope Marie is doing well in her foster home. She has now learned "sit," "down," and "stay" and loves going on walks. Even though she is a big girl, she is very gentle and wouldn't dream of jumping up on anyone. Hope is also completely housebroken, and has never had an accident. She is very attached to her foster sister and would probably do best in a home with other dogs, as she does get a little nervous if she's alone. She also seems to be really good with cats and lets the resident kitties clean her!! Last week we took Hope out to lunch with us at a patio restaurant and she loved it. She's a perfect car rider and when we got there, she sat like an angel and watched everyone and let the kids pet her, and met all the other dogs. I'm sure it's the first time she's ever been in that environment and she acted like she'd done it a million times. Although she has lots of Boxer wiggles and bounces like Tigger when she's excited, mostly Hope Marie has a very sweet calm personality and would rather sleep and snuggle with us than do anything else. She is the best snuggler, although she does tend to snore a little bit!! She will need to be with a family that can give her lots and lots of love and attention. She is my little shadow and follows me around everywhere. All she wants is someone to love her. She will make a wonderful addition to any family devoted to this breed!
Name: Stretch Age: 2.5 years Gender: Male Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 59 lbs Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available after neuter Posted to website: 4/21/08 Dog Number: F08-066 Location: Sarasota, Angie is contact
Comments from foster home: Stretch and his sister Jessie were used as breeding dogs and were surrendered to FBR when they were no longer wanted. Stretch is a very active, handsome boy. He is full of wiggles and kisses and may need some training as he was previously kept in an inappropriate environment. Stretch will be neutered soon and will then need a loving and responsible forever family to call his own. UPDATE 5/25/08: Stretch is very smart and a great guy. He learns quickly and tries so hard to please you. He's still pretty thin, but still a very handsome boy. He's learned the commands: "sit," "down," "come," "stay," "wait," "back" and is good on the leash. He's done fairly well with the boundaries we've laid down. Stretch loves to ride in the car, and will play fetch for a short time with a plush, squeaky toy. He's house trained and will ring a bell to tell you he wants to go out! Awesome, eh? He has had no accidents at our house.
Stretch isn't as interested in being a friend to another dog as he mainly wants human contact. I recommend he go to a forever home that will continue his training and is dog savvy. A home without small children is best as he is sensitive about his ears being touched and is so excitable that he may accidentally hurt a child while trying to showering him or her with love.
UPDATE 6/18/08:
Stretch has got to be one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. His favorite thing to do is sit with you and be petted for hours. He's a complete lover and cuddler! His big, beautiful, brown eyes could melt any heart!
He's found his voice a bit, but he still is a very quiet dog. But he'll give you a small, half bark when someone knocks on the door. We've learned he'll talk a little if you are showing another dog some affection. There's isn't a person who can resist laughing when they hear his little talking, it is SO cute! We swear he says "momma!" He's enjoying laying around with his foster sister and playing with her now and then. He's shown no interest in the birds he is living with, or the cats he has been around. And you couldn't ask for a better dog at the vet! This guy is a total gem!
Name: Louie II Age: 2 yrs Gender: Male Coloring: Fawn Weight: 55 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available after HW tx Posted to website: 4/16/08 Dog Number: F08-065 Location: Amanda is contact
Comments from foster home: Hi, my name is Louie II. My foster family found me wandering and took me in. After unsuccessful attempts to find my humans, I was turned over to FBR. My foster family is donating the cost of my heartworm treatment and getting some weight on me. Then I'll be neutered and ready to go to a responsible home. I'm a young guy who is learning some manners. I like to pounce on my foster siblings but they don't like that. I'm also learning to be around kitties without trying to chase them. I have kids to play with me and that's always fun. Keep an eye on me; I should be ready to go to my forever home in a month or two. Can't wait to meet you! UPDATE 5/6/08: Louie no longer chases the cats or jumps on his housemates. He has calmed down a lot; I think he was just not used to being in a real home setting or spending time around other animals, but now he fits in well. He loves to play with the basketball and he loves his crate. When I was cleaning the other day and moving it around, he got in it when I was sliding it across the floor and looked up at me as if to say "Please don't move my house!" LOL. We are also teaching him to "sit" and "stay." UPDATE 5/27/08: My friend had a 9 month old baby over several times last week and Louie was wonderful with her. I feel he will do well in any home suited for this breed. Louie II is good with any kind of animal. I have small furry animals and cats and dogs. He is great with all of them. He just wants to be loved. I am not seeing anymore tapeworms in his feces and he is gaining more of an appetite now, although he does vomit occasionally (I think that is sometimes due to him scarfing down his food too fast at times). Louie is doing well and his incision is healing nicely!
Name: Mercy Age: 2-4 yrs Gender: Female Coloring: Brindle Weight: 45 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 4/1/08 Dog Number: F08-056 Location: Cape Coral, FL Susan K. is contact
Comments from foster home: Mercy was pulled from the Lee County Animal Services. She was picked up as a wandering stray so there is no telling what this poor girl has been through. The only one who may have a clue is Ruff. Hopefully Mercy will recover just as Ruff has. She has a long road ahead of her and her new foster parents are looking forward to helping her on that road to recovery. Please consider the other wonderful dogs on our website. Mercy will be unavailable indefinitely. Applications for this sweet girl will not be considered until she is recovered. UPDATE 4/2/08: Mercy has gone "home" with her foster mom today. She responded well to her treatment and stay at the vet's office. She does have hookworms and is on meds, as well as a little cold and was given antibiotics for that. UPDATE 4/14/08: This is Mercy's foster mom checking in to share her progress....She is adjusting well to her new situation. "Home" seems like a new and strange place for Mercy. She is starting to bond with Richard and I...slipping us tender kisses now and then, a bit of a tail wag and always looking for body contact. She is so sweet - very quiet now but with much TLC she will find her "Boxer" voice. UPDATE 5/24/08: Hey...it's Mercy here and all I have to say is it's a great world after all. I get to play with toys and chase the birds and eat cookies just for me. I get to go for rides in the car and walks with my fur sister. This really is a "Dogs Life!" My foster mom says I have come a long long way from the brink of starvation to the picture of health. She says I trot around like a little filly, whatever that is! I know that I have to go outside to do my business and I also do not chew anything but dog chew toys. I get really happy when my foster mom or dad comes home and I do the Boxer kidney bean dance across the room. Sometimes when I am doing this the wall gets in the way!! I am still shy with new people and need some time to build trust. So when you meet me the first time, be kind and gentle and I will come to love and adore you forever. My foster mom and dad have really been great and tell me they will help me find just the right forever home. Please let me be your new special girl.
Name: Gina Age: 5 yrs Gender: Female Coloring: Fawn Weight: 66 lbs Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 4/14/08 Dog Number: F08-062 Location: Janet is contact
Comments from foster home: Gina was pulled from Hillsborough County Animal Services. She is a sweet Boxer girl beginning heartworm treatment so she will not be available for adoption for a while. Check back for more info soon.
UPDATE 4/25/08: Hi, this is Gina. I've been in my foster home for a week now, so I'm still settling in and getting to know my extended foster family. I'm skinny and weak 'cuz I'm getting treated for my heartworms, so I get to lie around all day while everyone waits on me. Food is starting to taste a lot better, so I'm eating more of it. For some reason, my foster mom thinks that's a really great thing to do. I'm kinda shy around people and have trouble looking right at them (as you can tell from my photo), but that doesn't keep me from staying close for some soothing strokes. I'm trying to get used to all the new things around me, but I can't stop slipping on these hard floors! My foster mom took care of that and now we have these great little rugs all over the place. I'm feeling a lot better and it surprised everyone that I barked today when I saw my foster brother coming to visit. These humans are sure easy to please. I don't need a crate right now since I'm recuperating and my foster mom works at home. My housetraining is coming along...only two accidents. Of course, I didn't think they were accidents...I really meant to poop! It's going to be a couple months before I really get back my Boxer energy. I wag my little stub, but can't quite manage the wiggle. A little more love should take care of that. My foster mom says I need to learn a few commands, like "sit" and "down," but right now I have no idea what she means! Well, gotta run... I mean mosey on over to my bed for a rest. Catch you later. ~Sweet Gina
UPDATE 5/8/08: This morning I took Gina to Lake Seminole Animal Hospital for her second heartworm treatment. She'll be staying two nights and come home on Saturday. They'll give her an injection today and one tomorrow. She will then have one more treatment left to go, but it's an oral treatment and she won't have to stay overnight. To make her feel less abandoned, I took her bed and her own food. I'm not sure who looked more sad -- me or Gina! Oh, she now weighs 66.7 pounds, so she's gained nearly 4 pounds in the last few weeks. And she looks really wonderful. Also, she's much more engaging....she now has enough courage to look at you and interact with you. I've also discovered that Gina has a spectacularly big bark! House training is coming along fairly well...very few accidents. I'm not quite sure if she "gets" it yet, or if I'm just lucky and get her outside at the right time. Either way is good for now. I'll let you know how she's doing after she's back home from the vet's office.
Name: Theo Age: 10 years Gender: Male Coloring: Fawn Weight: 55 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: No Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 6/2/08 Dog Number: F08-085 Location: Angie is contact
Comments from foster home: Theo & Tiger are father & son. Their human is ill and turned them over to FBR for placement. Theo is smaller then Tiger but just as happy and wiggly. Theo does not look like your typical "senior" Boxer as he doesn't seem to have many gray hairs. He will be unavailable until a few medical issues have been taken care of. We'll post an update once they are settled in their foster home and we know more about them.
Name: Tiger Age: 5 1/2 years Gender: Male Coloring: Flashy Brindle Weight: 55 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: No Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 6/2/08 Dog Number: F08-084 Location: Angie is contact
Comments from foster home:
It's obvious how Tiger got his name; he has a beautiful light brindle coat resembling a "big cat." When I met him at the vet he was your typical Boxer greeting everyone with wiggles & kisses. He is new to FBR and needs to have some medical issues addressed. Once we get to know him better, we'll post an update.
Name: Jericho Age: 6 yrs Gender: Male Coloring: Fawn Weight: 58 lbs Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Unknown Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 2/9/08 Dog Number: F08-031 Location: Bev is contact
Comments from foster home:
Jericho was pulled from Polk County Animal Services. Jericho was very well behaved and sweet on the ride from the shelter to the kennel and just wanted to give his volunteer driver loads of kisses as if to say "Thanks for springing me out of there!" He just went to our first open foster home, so more information will be forthcoming.
Name: Shylo Age: 7 years Gender: Male Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 70 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: No Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 9/15/07 Dog Number: F07-135 Location: New Port Richey, FL Janet G. is contact
Comments from foster home:
I am
very scared right now. I have lived with my family for 7 years and
they have fallen on hard times. I get UPDATE 5/27/08: Shylo is doing just fine in his foster home; he is such a good boy. Shylo is a happy boy who thinks he is a puppy. He especially loves sitting in your lap or just being with you. If you are out, he will wait patiently for your return. Then he will reward you with lots of wiggles and nub wagging, Boxer style. NO jumping, NO chewing; Shylo is perfectly housetrained.
When we visit skin children, Shylo is a watchful participant while they play. He also loves his squeaky little football. Toys are new to him and he loves his playtime.
Please look at this boy if you desire and older, calmer, quiet guy. He has been around other dogs and does well. He does NOT like cats. Right now, we are getting ready to go to the Big Apple but will be back in August. Shylo loves his road trips!
Name: Buster Brown Age: 4 1/2 yrs Gender: Male Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 70 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 6/29/08 Dog Number: F08-098 Location: Kelly R. in Clearwater area
Comments from foster home: Buster Brown is your typical happy-go-lucky Boxer boy and is full of wiggles. He is 4 1/2 years old, so he is past any crazy puppyhood issues and is very well behaved in the house. He was a perfect gentleman in the car. He has not tried to get up on the furniture and does not chew things. He is in great shape and has plenty of energy to play, go for walks/jogs and have fun. He loves to play with his ball!! Buster is housebroken and knows basic obedience commands of "sit," "down," "come" and "shake;" he also walks nicely on a leash. He gets along well with the resident Boxers (male & female) and the cats too. Come and check out this GREAT boy!
Name: Hooch Age: 1 yr Gender: Male Coloring: Fawn Weight: 72 lbs Kids: Unknown Cats: Unknown Dogs: Unknown Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 3/8/08 Dog Number: F08-045 Location: Englewood with Melissa, Susan K. is contact
Comments from foster home:
Hooch is a very handsome Boxer guy that is full of energy and has his natural tail! He is very happy to be out of the shelter and in our home. Hooch loves taking US for walks, and is learning the harness and leash. He's in "school" and is learning the sit command at this very moment. He plays very well with all his new toys, and has claimed the couch for himself. Hooch is a sweet, loveable and affectionate guy who thinks he is a lap dog!
UPDATE 6/6/08: Hooch is doing wonderfully in his foster home. He has now learned "sit," "down," "stay," “sit-up” and loves going on his walks. Hooch is still a work in progress as he is learning his leash rules. He is also quite active and energetic. Hooch is fully crate and house trained and is very well behaved in his crate when you are not at home. He isn't as interested in being a friend to another dog as he mainly wants human contact. Now a few words from Hooch: Hi my name is Hooch. I love to play tug-o-war and chase toys around the house. I love attention and to be petted and brushed. If you stop petting me I will remind you that I am here and don't want you to stop! I want a forever home and to be loved and secure. Will you adopt me, please?
Name: Brady Age: 18 months Gender: Male Coloring: White Weight: 62 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 6/1/08 Dog Number: F07-167ra Location: Nokomis, Bev is contact
Comments from foster home: "Woof!" That’s "hi" in Brady talk! I am a very handsome white bundle of energy! Life started out kind of rough - I was tied to a tree and basically forgotten about. A kind lady rescued me, but found out I had a serious eye condition that required surgery which she couldn’t afford and so I was surrendered to FBR. The surgery was a great success and now I can see the world! And what a wonderful world it is!
As I mentioned before, I am a BUNDLE OF ENERGY. I have to have someone to play with or I get into trouble. I love to play in the water hose; I pounce on the water - it sure is fun! My foster family says I need some obedience training too (whatever that is). I know basic commands, but really am just a big ol’ goofy guy wanting to have a good time. . . all the time!!!! I do crate well, but will bark for a little while when you leave me.
If you are looking for a high energy bundle of love I am your guy!!! I was put on this earth to just enjoy every day to its fullest and am looking forward to spending my life with you and your other four legged companion!
Let’s get the ball rolling on our lives together and apply to adopt me!!
Name: Mozart Age: 5 years Gender: Male Coloring: White Weight: 50 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Unavailable Posted to website: 6/2/08 Dog Number: F08-083 Location: Susan K. is contact
Comments from foster home: "Hello" in sign language!!!! I was turned into FBR by my previous human because I contracted heartworms and he did not want to pay for the treatment. My foster mother has named me Mozart or Mo, for short. She named me after the famous composer Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, whom was also deaf. I am a white boxer, complete with tail!!! I love my tail as it lets you know when I am "HAPPY!" I am 5 years old. I am a very well behaved boy. I LOVE my kennel and do not bark when in it. I love to go for walks and DO NOT pull on the leash. I am house trained. I get along very well with other dogs, cats and also birds. However, I HATE tires, bicycles, cars and motorcycles. My original human placed me in grave danger daily as I was allowed to run free (THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT HIT BY A CAR - I CANNOT HEAR THEM COMING!!!). Because of this previous learned behavior, I do chase anything with wheels on it. Maybe even your vacuum sweeper or lawn mover ?? I will need some serious training for this issue and also would benefit from learning sign language. I would be most comfortable playing with you in a fenced yard and living in a home that has the time and willingness to work with me. I only know several basic commands in sign language but I am willing to learn; I am a very SMART BOY !! I have not been to see a vet since I was a puppy. Florida Boxer Rescue is making sure that I can become a healthy Boxer boy again. I had my first vet appointment today. I am heartworm positive and FBR wants to get me well again before I can be adopted out to my fur-ever home. Please consider me and give me a chance like Florida Boxer Rescue did....... ~MOZART
Name: Oakley Age: 5 yrs Gender: Male Coloring: Flashy Fawn Weight: 50 lbs Kids: Ok Cats: Ok Dogs: Ok Adoption Status: Available Posted to website: 5/30/08 Dog Number: F06-219ra Location: Janet is contact
Comments from foster home: My name is Oakley. I am a very handsome flashy fawn boy. I have a very pretty mahogany coat. I have a VERY expressive Boxer face; once you see me, it will melt your heart! I am currently getting over a nasty cold and will have to undergo heartworm treatments before I can go to my forever home. I also need to gain about 15 lbs cause I am skinny right now. I have two kitty cousins that are keeping me company at my foster home and we get along fine. I am just now starting to play and enjoy my new surroundings. My foster mommy says I am a very typical loving Boxer boy and she will be sending a picture of my handsome face very soon! To see me is to LOVE me! UPDATE: Wow, I feel like a new boy since last time I wrote! It is amazing everything that love and good care can heal. When I got to my foster mommy, I was very sick. With her love and the help of the vet, I am a new boy! Everyone who has met me says I am the sweetest Boxer they have ever met. All I know is that I love them all! I very much want to please and am very aware that the people in my life now have saved me and I am so appreciative! Life is so good now! I would love to live in a family that is home often. One thing I crave is love and attention. I could keep you company by cuddling with you or just being in your company. I have also very much enjoyed having a foster sister. In fact, I have enjoyed every furkid I have met, doggy or kitty! I guess you could say that I make friends easily. I have shared my home with a couple foster Boxer sisters and the kitties here have been my steady companions. Even though everyone says I am perfect, I know there is one thing that makes me sad and that is to be left alone for much of the day. I don't think I want to do that again. I would love to have you around often or have a furbuddy. I've been through a lot but I now know that love can conquer all... and I am full of love!
UPDATE 6/13/08:
Oakley is good with cats, loves people and children of all ages!! Oakley knows basic commands like "sit," "down," "off," and "paw." He is not fond of pools or beaches, but loves to go for rides in the car. Oakley would much rather crawl up into your lap for some loving (true Boxer fashion). It would be best if Oakley had a playmate that was younger and submissive.
