Bixby

Updatge 6/1/10 (continued): I will be happiest with other young dogs, but not with kids or cats. I am working on a loud bark when I hear someone knock at the door or when my family returns from being away. People describe me as a happy go lucky guy. I give lots and lots of kisses!

3/3/10: Bixby came to us from animal control and is very thin. He will be putting on weight in his foster home and will be ready to adopt soon. Bixby is getting along with the other 5 boxers in the home, male and female. He is learning housebreaking 101 and seems to be a very sweet boy.

More to come from his foster dad.

5/27/10 (continued): He likes big dogs and small dogs, was living with 2-year-old and 4-year-old skin kids and LIKES cats. He's heartworm negative and has just been neutered. Bongo has lived his whole life with one loving family and is now looking for another family that will love him and take care of him forever.

Update 7/20/10 (continued): Foster mom: Phoebe and Bruce (Cody) are so right. They are so sweet. I have gotten so attached to these two. It's very obvious that at some time in their life they were very loved and cared for. They have wonderful manners, are very loving and listen wonderfully. They walk well on a leash.(I use halters /nothing around their neck.) They have not been crated at all. They have access to a crate and take turns sleeping in it. They are limited as to where they can go in the house when no one is home. Everyone should get to experience a boxer or any breed as special as these two are. Both are wonderful with my grand children and are well behaved around cats and dogs.

Update 6/30/10: Cody (aka Bruce) has been with us for 8 days now. He wasn't responsive to the name Bruce, so I started rattling off all kind of names, just to see if he would respond to anything. When I said Cody, his ears perked up, so I knew there was something familiar about that name.

Cody and Phoebe came to FLBR together via Polk County Animal control. They seems to love each other very much. After 8 days in their new foster home, they are finally feeling comfortable enought to start playing with each other again. I can't imagine the stress and confusion all of our fosters must go thru before finding their new forever home. Cody is a very handsome, loving and gentle boy.

Cody here: My new foster home is great, but I would really like to find my forever home very soon. I like cats, dogs and skin kids. My foster mom has two grandkids (13 and 5). The youngest one never stops moving. I followed him around like I was his shadow. He wore me out. Foster mom says I am a very sweet boy and silly too. I love to play with squeaky toys; when they squeak, I whimper back. I am very quiet right now. Foster mom was happy when she finally heard me bark for the first time. I'm just confused right now. Foster mom will update my profile when she gets to know me better. Please find it in your heart to give me a loving forever home.

6/7/10: Bruce is a happy and handsome brindle boy with lots of nub wags and Boxer kisses to give. He rides well in the car and loves to let his ears flop in the wind when the window is cracked. Bruce was very entertained by the kittens at the vets office, but did not seem to want to chase them. He is very verbal and likes to talk to you or anyone else that will listen. He loves to sit or lay in your lap and just wants to be close to his humans. SWEET BOY :)

Update 6/11/10 (continued): I am feeling much better now that I'm not so skinny, and now that I have more energy, my foster family found out how much I love to play with balls. I get very excited when I see one and will run to catch it no matter how tired I am. I'm ready to give lots of love to my fur-ever family. I know we will have lots of fun together.

5/20/10: I was found as stray and no one could find my family. I need to gain some weight and my foster family is doing a good job of helping me with that. No one knew that I got along with dogs, or kids, or cats. But I love to play with my foster boxer sister who is a ball of energy. I am also fitting in very well with the family of teenage girls and a cat (not always sure about that cat, but I'm learning). My foster famiy needs to live with me a bit longer to know me better, but I sleep well in my crate, walk well on a leash, and I am fine when the family leaves to go to work. They think I am a gentleman. Everyone thought I was four years old, until some people who know boxers told them differently. It must be my stylish figure and my black muzzle (read that very little gray hair). Oh, I am crate trained and house trained too. Aren't I special!!!

Buddy
Update 10/13/09 (continued): He is a very laidback boxer and is very happy just sitting at your feet. He is completely housebroken and crate trained and is great in the car and walks great with my daughter. I think buddy would do better in a home where he is the only dog with all the love and attention he needs and deserves. He will be such a wonderful addition to any family; he is truly a wonderful boy.

Update 9/29/09: My name is Todd Langston and I own Pack Life, a canine behavior and rehabilitation business. I have been fostering Buddy for the last month and have gotten to know him very well as he has become a balanced member of my pack.

Buddy will do well with a home with other calm dogs of any age and size but would also enjoy being the only critter in the home. He has done well with my cats but my cats have grown up with dogs so every cat is different. If the first thing your cat does is run from a dog then that dog will want to chase the cat. Most dog/cat relationships will be based on the cat's experience with dogs. I don't have children and have not seen him interact with kids younger than twelve. He has been friendly to people when he has been with me but he generally does not search out the affections of others. He is crate trained, house trained, walks well on a leash, is quiet and very loyal.

Buddy has medium level needs for exercise and owner understanding. Buddy, like all dogs, must receive rules and boundaries before love and affection for this bio to be accurate. I have given Buddy what he needs so he can provide you with what you want and this must be an ongoing part of his life. Every dog has the ability to be balanced like Buddy but not every human can meet the needs of every dog. Think carefully about your choice as everyone loses when a bad match is made. If you and your family are ready and have the time to fulfill Buddy's physical and mental needs you will be getting the most loyal, trusting, loving set of eyes you will ever want to see.

Buddy must have:
- A minimum of a 45 minute walk a day. Throwing the ball in the yard or going to the dog park burns energy and should be part of his life but it is not exercise.
- Structure and rules. Buddy's current life includes crate time, exercise time, free time - you get the picture. You need to create a routine for Buddy that is structured, fun and fits in your life. It does not have to be perfect, but it needs to be there. Dogs, like kids, thrive with structure.
- I feed Buddy in a crate because I feel dogs should eat in peace as this is their reward for the days work. I don't stick my hand in my dog's food bowls because I think it is highly disrespectful. I can do this, and my dogs won't do anything because they respect me and my rules. I return the favor by respecting them when they eat. Please do the same.

Whoever adopts Buddy will get a free consult with me to help you get off on the right foot. How the relationship starts on day one can determine the next ten years and I want to help you to enjoy him like I have. I would keep him but I have a baby on the way and my wife has made it clear the next pack member is human.

Update 8/10/09: Buddy is with us again due to his adopter having personal issues. Since being returned he has shown signs of abuse while in his previous home. We are working with our behavior expert to help Buddy work through these issues so he can be the well-adjusted boxer boy he was a few months ago. Buddy is non-hearing, great with kids, but until we know more about him he shouldn't be with other dogs. After he is assessed, he likely will be able to be with other dogs, which is our preference since he is non-hearing and needs to take cues from his fellow dogs. More to come after we reacquaint ourselves with Buddy.

Original comments: Buddy is a little dog lost who was found by caring folks who have vetted him and chipped him. He is deaf and understands some sign language. After several months of living with Buddy, the family sees that they cannot give him the degree of attention he needs. Buddy is lonely for human attention.

Buddy is described as a wonderful dog, very loving, gets along with everyone - kids, dogs, and cats! He is housebroken and leash trained. Since he already knows and follows some sign commands, he will be easy to train to new commands.

Buddy would probably thrive in a home where there are children and other dogs. He will need some therapeutic attention for a while.

Buttercup

Update 3/3/10: So I go to the vet to talk about heartworm treatment and he tells me I have a kidney infection---ugh! He gave me 6 weeks of antibiotics and then he'll check me out again. Once it's all cleared up, I can start my heartworm treatment. In the meantime though, my foster brother is a young, handsome Boxer named Tyson and we're together all the time, like peas and carrots--you know, like Forest Gump and Jenny!

Lucky for me, my foster mom and dad have taken care of lots of dogs so I know I'm in good hands. I'll write again in a few weeks to let you know how I'm doing.

2/15/10: Buttercup is your typical fun loving Boxer. She loves to give kisses, was well behaved at the vet, and after calming down, was a great co-pilot in the car.

While we do not officially know how she would be with kids, I think she would make a great family pet. She first needs a nice place to stay while she's going through her heartworm treatments. Can you provide her with a home to get better?

Daisey Do Wop

Update 7/10/10 (continued): I am also not a big fan of thunderstorms (I tried to burrow my head under foster mom's legs) and the 4th of July felt like the end of the world, but again I just stuck like glue to mom and dad and everything was alright. Mom and dad both work at home so I spend my days keeping one eye on them while the other one is closed napping! I also make myself useful by waking mom as soon as the sun rises so we can all get our walk. No sense wasting daylight! Pretty soon I will be ready to go to my forever home, where I hope there will be long walks, lots of pets and scratches, and snuggling in front of the TV at night.

Update 6/7/10: Daisy came to FBR with a tummy full of sand, grass, hay, a rubber band and tummy worms. Luckily, all these things have cleared her system and she is hungrily chowing down on high protein dog food. Daisy has no other known problems and is completely house trained. Daisy is a good girl who knows how to sit, come, lay down, and heel. She won't pull on her leash if her handle insists that she doesn't. If Daisy is outdoors, she needs a high fence or to be leashed always. Daisy is usually sitting outside the bedroom door in the morning waiting for her walk. She has the Boxer lean down pat. Daisy is good with kids, but she's a bit exuberant. She loves a good cuddle and will be a good family very happy!

5/18/10: Daisey here! I'm so confused. I don't know why I was taken away from my parents. I cried all the way to my foster home. I can sit and shake, and I know a few other tricks. I've been told I'm very pretty and sweet. I love children and other dogs and, best of all, I like to ride in the front seat of the car. However, I did ride good in the crate, but I admit I cried and whined. I'll tell you more about me once I settle in with my foster family.

Daisey has a vet appointment to see how her health is and if everything is okie dokie, she'll be ready for adoption.

11/23/09: Found as a stray, Dominic has had a rough life lately. He is very skinny and suffering the ill effects of never being neutered. Dominic still laughs at life and seeks the company of people and other dogs. More to come when his foster family gets to know him.

Duke

I'm so happy to be alive and my foster mom says that my personality definitely reflects that! I'm happy to report that I finished my course of antibiotics and am eager to meet my forever family. I am a pretty quiet guy but I love to play, especially with those rubbery squeaky toys. I love to play with my foster brothers, Hank and Trooper (black lab mix and beagle) and my foster sister Taylor (beagle). I would prefer to have a fenced back yard so I can run and play with you! I am an all around easy going guy who loves belly rubs and loves to lounge around, but also needs time to get my energy out everyday. I enjoy being around kids and am very gentle with them. I am heartworm negative and on preventative, microchipped, neutered, and fully housetrained. I do very well in the house while my foster parents are at work during the day. You would chuckle if you could see me fit through the dog door that was really made for my beagle siblings:) I promise that I will make a loyal and loving dog! Can you find it in your heart to provide me with my forever home?

11/23/09: Found as a stray, Dominic has had a rough life lately. He is very skinny and suffering the ill effects of never being neutered. Dominic still laughs at life and seeks the company of people and other dogs. More to come when his foster family gets to know him.
Elvis

Original comments: Elvis is back in the building and waiting for his forever family. He's a sweet boy that loves to give you lots of kisses and lay beside you, though he prefers your lap. Elvis has his hearing, but will need to go through heartworm treatment. More to come as we get Elvis settled in his foster home. Check back in and see how he's doing.

Ingo

Update 4/16/10: Ingo is such a wonderful boy! He is potty trained, loving, playful, and smart. Because of his exuberance and large size, we feel that Ingo would do best in a home with older children. He is very sweet and loves kids, but he tends to play a little too rough and may knock a small child over with his puppy-like energy. He loves both dogs in his foster home, and he is fine with the cat in the home, as well. Because of his lack of hearing, Ingo must be placed in a home with another dog.

Ingo is going to be neutered later this month and then will be ready for a loving, structured "fur-ever" home!

Update 4/12/10: Ingo was found as a stray, wandering the streets of Orlando. He is such a sweet boy and is very eager to please and learn. In the few short days he has been in his foster home he has learned to trust and feel comfortable again, and he loves snuggling on the couch with his new foster fur-brother. Ingo is hearing impaired. This means that he can hear certain tones and pitches, but cannot hear every day sounds, so it is very important that he is placed in a home with another dog. Ingo loves children and other dogs, and even tolerates cats. When we brought him in to rescue, he had a very bad cold, with an terribly red, achy throat and a bad cough. His foster Mommy has been great at nursing him back to health and gives him his antibiotics every day, and we hope that he will be healthy enough to be neutered within the next couple of weeks. More to come once this handsome little boy has been neutered and is ready for his "furever" home.

4/5/10: Ingo was just pulled into rescue from Animal Control, where he was picked up as a stray. We are still learning about him, and will have an update within the next few days, once his foster home gets to know him better.

General

Update 7/4/10 (continued): He shows some interest in the cat by trying to sniff... if the cat would only allow him to get that close, but General has absolutely no aggression towards it.

General loves to either sit or lay at your feet so you can pet him or find a pet bed to lay on when he's tired. General knows basic commands, and when traveling in the car he will either sit quietly or lay down, but he doesn't make any sort of fuss. Though he does not
know what to do with a ball, he will bounce around like a puppy if you chase him. If you are mowing the lawn...then he keeps trying to bite the front wheel and pull the machine. I think he thinks it's a game when I walk around with it.

I will have to say that General is one of the best dogs I have ever had...there is nothing negative at all about him...he will go outside and lay out there before laying by the door waiting for you to let him back in. He does not try to dominate other dogs in the house, instead he "goes with the flow". He does have some arthritis but that definitely does not slow him down at all. General will be starting heartworm treatment soon, so he'll be completely healthy once again.

6/18/10: General was picked up as a stray by Orange County Animal Control. He is a super friendly, wiggly, handome boxer boy! When we took him to the vet for a check up he made everyone he encountered smile with his loving, happy personality. General has heartworms and will need to undergo heartworm treatment before he is ready to go to his furever home. More to come from his foster Mom after this cutie gets settled in.

Hercules

Update 2/22/10 (continued): My heartworms are gone and I'm as healthy as they come. I'm a very special boxer and have had some trauma in my past. For that reason, I need to go to a calm and relaxing home. The perfect setting would be a retired person or couple or someone who works from home and doesn't leave very often. I used to get really nervous and anxious when I was left by myself and I'd start to freak out. As long as there's a TV or music on, that is helpful for me and I'm good for about two hours. I am working very hard to get better and better about my "left alone" issue.

I guess you could call me a velcro dog because I like being with my people. I like to go on walks and play in the backyard but most of all I like to just sit with my person or persons and watch TV or movies. As long as I'm with ya, I'm golden!

http://www.dog-behavior.net/hercules.html

For the past three months I've been at dog behavior camp learning how to be a calm and trusting boxer buddy. My foster Mama is a behaviorist and will help my future folks to understand my needs and how to meet them. She tells me I am a great boy and that my forever family will come along. Until then, I'm going to chill with my foster mama and the other dogs she helps and just keep on getting better and better. Feel free to set up a visit with me! I like everyone and love to get pets and affection. I am looking for that special human that will keep me feeling safe! Hope to see you soon!

11/14/09: Hey guys. My name is Hercules and I'm a little nervous right now. My family lost their home and had to move back to New York. My Boston Terrier brother and I were left behind. By a stroke of luck I made it to Florida Boxer Rescue. So, I'm with people I don't know in a place I've never been. My new friends tell me it's only natural to be a little nervous.

I have heartworms so I'll need to be treated for those, but not for a month because I just got neutered. I need to find a foster home in a calm environment so that I can relax and get better. Right now it's kinda hard to relax so I'm hoping to get settled in a foster home really soon.

I'm about 4 years old, I have a little gray showing, but don't let that fool you. I'm still pretty active and always like to be on the move. I like other dogs, big and little. I don't have a problem with cats, they're just strange and I like to smell them. I do scarf down my food so make sure my friends at FBR tell you how to keep me from doing that. Also, when my heartworms are gone, I'm going to have to have surgery on my teeth. It's not safe to do that until AFTER the heartworms are gone.

I know that sounds like a lot, but I'm definitely worth it! Come by to see me soon. You'll be happy you did, and I will too!

5/9/10: Hi, Josie here. Boy did I luck out... I am in a wonderful foster home and they love me! I was never loved, never knew what toys are. I have attached myself to my one fur brother and he is teaching me how to play with toys.

I do need to go to a home with another dog as I would be a very lonely girl again. Please consider ME!

Update 7/20/10 (continued): She came into rescue not knowing how to play, but you should see the big smile on her face as she plays with her toys now! This happy girl so deserves a loving family of her own! Apply now to share your life with Katrina!

Update 6/6/10: Katrina is doing fine. She's happy, loving, and good dog mannered; and she's the sweetest boxer ever. She truly has opened up

5/12/10: Hi Everyone, it's Katrina here. Do you know what May 4th was? Anyone, no... well, I will tell you. It was my birthday. I turned 4 that day. Most of you are thinking that is great, happy birthday Katrina. Well, I'll tell you, it wasn't the happiest of birthdays I have ever had. You see, I spent it in the shelter. I don't know what I did to get there but I would have much rather been with a skin family on my birthday. What made it even worse is that I had babies

I had 6 but only 3 made it. They were 8 weeks old right around my birthday so they weren't even with me anymore. I spent my birthday very confused and all alone. But I guess all good things come to those who wait. So, on the 8th, just 4 days after my 4th birthday, Florida Boxer Rescue came and got me.

I am now in a foster home with a great foster fur brother, Dad, and Mum (she says it that way because she has this thing called an accent). I would say that this is my birthday present but foster Mum says that my present isn't quite here yet. She did tell me what it was though... she said it was a forever family. I'm familiar with what she's talking about because I had one since I was little, that is until I had my pups and the family left me on the side of the road with them for someone to find. Foster Mum said that I need to be patient because my forever family will really be mine forever this time. She must know me really well, because that is just what I wished for on my birthday. I was in my kennel late that night and I was all alone and feeling down, so I wished for a forever family. Since I didn't get a cake, I wished for one on a star. Will you help make my wish come true and give me the best birthday present ever... a forever home? Please make my wish come true! I am a very good girl and I love to please. I like to run around and act goofy. I just want someone to love me for me. Will you be my wish upon a star? I hope so. Love Katrina.

Kansas

Update 12/25/09 (continued): My foster mom gives me so much love and all I do is wag my tail....and I even smile at her, she thinks that is soooo special! Right now I cannot go on any long walks because I have arthritis in my back and my left leg, but I am taking lots of things to make me feel better. That's what happens to us when we get older, at least that's what my foster mom says! I am hoping to lose some weight once I can take long walks again because that would help me feel better too. At my new house there is a elderly Persian cat and we get along just fine; I want to play with him but he just doesn't feel like it, so I play with my toys and with my foster mom.

My foster mom also takes me everywhere - even to her card parties, and some of her friends have come to our house to meet me. Even at my mom's yard sale, people stopped by just to come and pet me!!! I felt so very special. I am very happy here and getting stronger every day.

11/17/09: Kansas is a sweet older gal who is being returned to FBR because her family has come on hard times and their living situation has changed. Kansas gets along with just about every animal you can think of. She was living with Chihuahuas, birds, cats and large dogs. Kansas will be going to the vet and getting a physical and updated on everything.

Check back for my new "Portrait" and an update from my Foster Dad.

Update 5/31/10 (continued): I’ve lead an interesting life, including having puppies, roaming the neighborhood to fend for myself and then being cared for by a kind elderly lady who read the bible to me while I slept in her lap. Sadly, she wasn’t able to continue to care for me and her children called FBR to help.

My Foster Mom says to tell you I tend to get bored and into mischief if I am not kenneled when she’s gone, but that’s ok because I’m crate trained. I also do best if I have a laid back male doggie companion to keep me company but no cats for me! I love going on walks and am learning not to pull on the leash. I also love to play tug with my toys with both four-legged and two-legged friends.

5/31/10 (continued): You need to know I have be diagnosed with a genetic deformity. My kidney has microscopic holes in it which allows bacteria to seep in. If I eat the wrong things, it sets me up for an infection. I’m eating a low protein food (Hills KD) and take an antibiotic twice a week that my Foster Mom gets free from Publix. I've been on this regimen for several months now and I’m doing great! I've gained weight, have plenty of energy and am just loving life! It is very important that I stay on this regimen all my life.

Did I mention I have all the love a heart can give? I promise you I will be the most wonderful companion ever! If you are a patient, loving soul that is willing to take the time to help me be the Boxer I was born to be, then please, please come meet me! It will be a match made in heaven with years and years of love, fun and exciting adventures.

Every FBR Volunteer who has had the chance to meet me says the same thing "Lulu is one of the sweetest Boxers I've ever met", so if you have room in your home and want a sweet little girl, please fill out an adoption application and ask for info on Lulu.

Update 1/22/10 (continued): I've been on the medicine for about two weeks now and I feel great! I also have a little arthritis in my back left hip, but when I take my vitamins and medicine you'd never know it! I love to wiggle and kiss and cuddle. I am an older guy so I don't chew up your stuff, I don't need a lot of exercise, and I'm very relaxed.

Mama calls me a Southern gentleman because I let her walk through the doors before I do. I just thought that was normal. I'm not bothered by the kitty here, and I don't mind being around foster brother and sister either. I would be a great companion for anyone with a relaxed lifestyle. OH! And I love to help cook. See me in the picture sitting on the rug. Mama calls me her sous chef. I'm the only one allowed in the kitchen because I stay out of the way and I don't beg. I just like to be around all the yummy smells. Although, I wouldn't complain if you shared either. So, if I sound like a good match for you and your family, let my foster Mama know. I'd love to meet some new friends!

12/4/09: Hi everyone, Miles here. I was sure glad to see the lady from FBR waiting for me at Animal Services. I was on the run when they picked me up so I think the name FBR gave me fits well. I was very happy to get outside and sniff all around before going for a ride to the vet's office. Once I got to the vet I was even happier to see more people just fawning all over me while I did the Boxer Wiggle Dance. I'm a big boy and would probably enjoy a nice walk every day that would help me loose a few pounds and get back to my perfect weight. Don't get me wrong, I'm not FAT, I just think if I lost 5 pounds I'd feel better and the girls would think I'm a Hot Older Man. Once I get into my foster home I know my new Foster Mom will get me all cleaned up and shiny for new pictures and let you know how I'm doing. So be sure to check back often. Slups you later.

Update 7/20/10 (continued): He's very sweet and I get along with him very well. I would love to go to my furever home with my brother/buddy Cody (aka Bruce FL10-109). We are such good friends, we sleep, eat and play together. We were picked up by Polk County Animal Control together. Then we were separated when I was so sick and stayed at the vet forEVER! I missed him so much. Little did I know he was at the same vet missing me. When we finally got out we met again when this wonderful Rescue volunteer picked us up to take us to our new foster home....TOGETHER. We were so happy to see each other again... we kissed and kissed. Now we are together all the time. I love him so much. Please consider adopting two very special boxer babies. We are so sweet.

Update 6/30/10: Phoebe is doing a lot better. I have been keeping a t-shirt on her to protect her naked skin from scratching damage. This morning she was chasing her brother around the back yard, having a blast. That is the most active I have seen either one of them.

When I got up this morning she was sleeping in the crate. She is very quiet. I have not heard a bark or a whimper out of her yet. When Cody was playing with a ball she was trying to play too and growled a little growl. But that's it. They both eat well and there is no food aggression. She will gently stand up on her back legs to give a smoochie pooch kiss. Hopefully her skin will heal quickly and she will find her forever home.

Update 6/25/10: Hi, Phoebe here! I was a pretty sick little girl and was at the vet's office for two whole weeks, but now I am ready for my forever family. My hair is still growing back and it is longer than most Boxer's which makes me extra cute. Just look how gorgeous I am! My foster mom says I am a laid back girl that has done well with this furry thing named "Fat Boy"...I think she said he is a cat...whatever that is. I also enjoyed playing with my foster mom's skin grandkids! Ahhhhh, to have a real family of my own that will care if I get loose and end up at the pound. Have you ever wanted a sweet girl like me? I'm waiting for you!

6/4/10: Phoebe is a sick little girl right now and must remain at the vet for another week before she can go to her foster home. She loves to cuddle with other dogs and has the sweetest tongue that hangs out of her mouth just a tad.

10/13/09: Punkin is a non-hearing boxer who needs a new home due to her current owners financial situation. Punkin is housetrained, crate trained and walks on a leash well. Her best friend is a Basenji mix whom she adores. They do everything together, including sleep in the same crate. Punkin knows some hand signals, and has free roam of the house when the owner is gone. Punkin will need to be placed with another dog due to her deafness.

Rio

Update 5/15/10: Rio's still looking for her fur-ever home. If Rio goes to a home with children, it should be older, teenaged children, as she will happily bolt out the door if it's left open! And she can run really fast :)

Update 3/24/10: We're very happy to say Rio completed her heartworm treatment and is now officially heartworm negative! She will be spayed March 29th and is ready for her fur-ever home.

Update 2/15/10: Rio's a sweet girl that still has puppy exuberance! She's loyal, attentive, asks to go outside to potty, and has a charming habit of lifting up her front paw. She could use some leash training, but that's about it. She's a quick learner and obeys well.

Rio completed her heartworm treatment and is waiting for a re-check in mid-March. Then she will get spayed and will be ready for her forever home. We're not sure how she may be living with another dog. She's only been around other dogs at the vet's office and that's a stressful situation.

11/15/09: Rio was found in St. Petersburg on 10/29/09. A nice family took her to their home with the intention of finding her humans.

They brought her to the vet to be scanned for a chip, but she doesn't have one. They checked the newspaper for Lost Ads, but there weren't any. They asked around at the dog park, but no luck. She is very pretty and got along with their bulldog, but he isn't neutered and was way too interested in her! FBR has her now and she is being evaluated by our vet. She appears young, is a bundle of energy, and could use some leash training. She jumped right in the car, laid down in the crate and rode well to the vet. At the vet, she slurped Hello to every human there. There were two small dogs there as well and she seemed fine with them. We'll have Rio's medical status soon and then she'll need a foster or forever home.

Rosie

6/14/10: Rosie has had the most difficult puppyhood, but all that has changed as of now. She has a fractured leg and has had surgery and expects a full recovery after a few months of TLC. She loves everybody that she has met. Although no cats have come around, we cannot imagine a problem with Rosie and cats. In less than a week Rosie has learned that all humans are not bad. The people that met this sweet angel the first week of rescue have fallen in love with her as she has such charisma and love to share. She will return tons of love and affection to any person lucky enough to claim her as part of their family.

Sarge

Update 6/16/10 (continued): Don't let Sarge's size fool you, he's a big boy, but very loving, affectionate and super sweet with that great Boxer wiggle. He loves to be close to his family and particularly enjoys the company of men. Sarge is waiting for his forever family...will it be YOU?

From Sarge: Hi...I am doing great! I love families and we have lots of kids in my foster home. I am good with the ladies but I really love hanging out with the guys! My foster parents are teaching me a lot and whatever lucky family gets me will need to continue with my training. FBR sent a nice man out to meet me and I learned a lot from him. He suggested that I be in a home as the only dog. I am what they call a "sensitive" dog and need to learn what is expected of me so I feel secure. I can't wait to find my fur-ever home and hope to meet you soon!!!

Sugar Ray

3/15/10 (continued): At first I wasn't sure of that crate (since I was in a shelter) but now it's my room; its next to a big window and I like the feeling of the sun on my belly. My foster mom says she loves my snaggle tooth and my pretty brown eyes. I plan on gaining a couple of pounds while I'm here and I am positive for heartworms so I will be getting treatment for that. I also seemed to be house trained because I go to the door when I need to go outside. I'm pretty good on a leash too. I get excited when I see another dog, but then I walked with my skin parents and got to see the new neighborhood.

Tia

6/2/10: This young Boxer girl was more than happy to start her new life in FBR's care. Tia needs to be fully vetted, spayed and treated for heartworms before she will be available for adoption. Tia is new to rescue so we'll update with more info once we get to know her.

Tippy

10/26/09: Tippy is a very pretty, sweet boxer girl. She is very shy, but warms up quickly. Loud noises spook her. Tippy needs a patient, understanding forever home. She gives kisses and loves to be petted, especially her tummy. Tippy came in with her best friend and companion Thoth. She seems lost without Thoth nearby. He is her security blanket. Tippy has some medical issues that will be addressed asap. The lucky family that adopts Tippy will be rewarded with unconditional love from a little girl who has had a rough first two years of life.

Update 10/29/09: Hi, I am Tippy. I am a shy girl and it takes me a bit to warm up to people. But if you are kind to me, it will only take a couple hours for you to be my friend. After that, try to get away from me! I will be at your side every step you take. My fur is soft and I have a tail that wags side to side high in the air when I run. Oh how I love to run and run! I wish someone would teach me how to fetch. I love to play in the yard with my best friend Thoth. Now that I've gotten to know the other three boxers that live here, I like to play with them too. Everyone thought that I wouldn't do too good if I went to a forever home without Thoth, but I probably just need an older male to guide me and be my friend. I would get along okay without him, but I would miss him ;-).

I am a little stingy with the kisses. So, if you get one you will know that I really really love you. Please take me to your home and love me forever. Maybe you and I could curl up together and watch a movie after we go for a walk. I need to walk more with a leash and learn how to do it better. The doc says I am in good shape. I am crate and house trained, so I am all ready to move in!
