Duke and Dallas (his life mate) have lived together for 8 years. He is a beautiful flashy brindle and is as gentle as can be. He loves to lay down beside your chair and he plays with Dallas. Duke is gentle with children and socialized with other dogs. Cats are unknown at this time as he has not been around cats in quite a long time.

Comments from foster home:

I am almost done with my medicine and will be neutered soon. I was not socialized and have a very hard time meeting new dogs (bigger dogs mostly). I do like the foster female Boxer here and the chihuahua (he's old) and of course my sister, Xena but all other introductions have to be very slow. I want to trust people again and I am learning that all the basic sounds of a house and the surrounding neighbors will not harm me. My foster mom says I am making great progress but it is going to take someone special to adopt me to devote enough time to my sense of security. I am comfortable enough in my backyard so we can go throw the ball and I can run and chase it. I am not sure about new people but once I am around you for a minute and realize you will not hurt me, I will feel safer. I will not necessarily let you love all over me. Xena likes that but I am not into all that mushy stuff. I am pretty independent and I listen very well. I like to be close by to you while I play with my squeaky ball. Can you please find it in your patient heart to devote the rest of your life to making mine safer? I promise to repay you with kisses and devotion. That's all for now. I will see you soon.

Yukon must be placed in a home with another dog. Yukon has been neutered and was recently given a clean bill of health so he is ready for adoption!

UPDATE 9/23/08:

Now that Yukon is feeling better I have come to realize that he is still very uncomfortable around bigger dogs and will growl and try to bite them. He likes to play with his sister Xena but most of the time he plays by himself. (He is very calm when Xena is not around). Yukon is such a smart dog and is continuing to learn his basic commands ("sit," "down," "stay," "off," "leave it," and will sit to be pet) and he will need his forever home to take him to an obedience class so he can gain some much needed confidence.  He is very mellow for a Boxer puppy and will sit patiently while you fix his dinner or while he is waiting for you. He's a breeze to care for and he would be great for someone with no other dogs (or no dominant dogs) because he does not like to share attention and will snap the resident dogs in the face if they are getting love or have a toy that he wants and they are playing with it.  Cats are okay; he knows to "leave it."  He is great with kids of all ages and does not jump up on them. He currently weighs 38 lbs and the doctor thinks he's closer to 11 months old so, he will not be a big boy when full grown. Yukon needs someone to continue to  slowly introduce him to the things around him as he still gets frightened. He is a goofy dog. He gallops when he runs and chases his tennis ball which is so funny.  He has adapted to our life and our schedule very quickly (2 months) and without hardly any fuss. He crates very well and will wait patiently for your return. Apply to adopt Yukon only if you understand he will not do well around other dogs and that you will have to help him discover this big world slowly.

Comments from foster home:

Yippee, I'm outta that shelter!  My foster Mom doesn't know what
my previous name was so she named my Lyle-  it means "island." I'd love to go
to one, in fact a dog beach would be awesome as I love other
dogs! I met my three foster Boxer siblings just this afternoon, and am so
happy to have some to play with :)  The shelter said I like cats
too, not sure what the big deal is about that, I just like to play. I do not have any hearing.

I just met a crate, so I'm learning that part, as I'm HW+,
after tx I will have to stay quiet in one for 6 weeks.  That stinks, but in only 6 weeks I'll be ready to go and that crate
won't be going with me...I hope.

More to come as my foster family gets to know me - picture coming soon. But I'm telling you already, you're going to say, that Lyle, I am too CUTE!!!

UPDATE 11/23/08:

His last heartworm treatment is scheduled for mid-December.  Finally, he will be able to be a regular dog.  Which is good because this two year-old is full of Boxer spirit.  He plays well with his foster sister and he plays by himself.  He is teaching his sister how to play with toys, too.

Lyle is quiet and loving and curious.  He follows his foster mom around and sits by the door when we are leashing up for one of our walks.  He is very good on a leash although an occasional reminder that his mom is the leader is a good thing.  He is observant and smart.  He loves routine.  Lyle greets everyone with tail wags.  He waits to be invited most of the time.

He jumps on the bed and "hints" about getting an eyebrow massage at night.  He does not mind baths but has not jumped in the pool yet.  We still have an outting planned when he gets well enough to romp to Ft. DeSoto's dog beach.

Lyle awaits his chicken gizzard-filled Kong every morning and has learned just what a Kong is all about.  If his foster sister is not in the same room, he looks for her.  They share the futon for naps and have been known to curl up together on a blanket on the floor.

The dog door is no longer a mystery to him.

Lyle is one awesome Boxer dog!

Comments from foster home:

Chino is a beautiful, loving, well trained 8 year old who came into our rescue program when his human passed away. He was moved temporarily to a home with an 8 month old child, where he was resigned to living outdoors which is inappropriate, especially for this social breed of dog. Chino appears confused about what has happened. He does well with people and children; cats are unknown. He is vetted and ready to be adopted.

Watch Hooch's Music Video!!

Comments from foster home:

Hooch is a very handsome Boxer guy that is full of energy and has his natural tail! He is very happy to be out of the shelter and in our home.  Hooch loves taking US for walks, and is learning the harness and leash. He's in "school" and is learning the sit command at this very moment.  He plays very well with all his new toys, and has claimed the couch for himself.  Hooch is a sweet, loveable and affectionate guy who thinks he is a lap dog!

UPDATE 6/6/08:

Hooch is doing wonderfully in his foster home.  He has now learned "sit," "down," "stay," “sit-up” and loves going on his walks.  Hooch is still a work in progress as he is learning his leash rules. He is also quite active and energetic.

Hooch is fully crate and house trained and is very well behaved in his crate when you are not at home. He isn't as interested in being a friend to another dog as he mainly wants human contact.

Now a few words from Hooch:

Hi my name is Hooch.  I love to play tug-o-war and chase toys around the house.  I love attention and to be petted and brushed.  If you stop petting me I will remind you that I am here and don't want you to stop!

I want a forever home and to be loved and secure.

 Will you adopt me, please?

UPDATE 9/18/08:

Just a quick update on Hooch.  He is doing well and is getting really good at "sit" and "lay down." He is still struggling with "stay."  Hooch LOVES to play.... he likes to pull the squeakers out of the toys.  But he mostly prefers to just chase his tail.  He is a ball of energy and no matter how many times you walk him, or he is outside running around, he still does not stop in the house.  He instigates play with Quorra (foster sis), or just walks around!  He does prefer the company of people over other dogs.  Hooch tends to pick which dogs he likes.  I've been using a gentle leader on him as well which has completely eliminated the pulling issue.  He does tend to listen a lot better if he is not around any other dogs.  He gets along well with the cats; he wants to play with them, but isn't really sure how to, so sometimes he gets in trouble for barking at them and scaring them when they want to say hi.  He is coming around slowly but surely and will end up being a great dog for someone. He is large and has TONS of energy and thinks he is a teacup poodle and will not hesitate to sit right on you!

UPDATE 12/26/08:

Hooch is beginning to mellow out some, especially being the only dog in the house. I've been having friends come and go with their dogs of all sizes and Hooch is acting 150% better around the other dogs. He is still learning not to get so excited when visitors come. Oh...and his favorite toy in the back yard is a coconut that weighs about 15 pounds. He can carry the entire thing around in his mouth!

Hopper is a special boy. He was found as a stray and must of previously
had a leg injury as he only has 3 legs. Believe you me,
that does not stop Hopper! He has a beautiful fawn coat and black mask.
He needs to be treated for hematoma on both ears and Hopper also needs to gain
some much needed weight.
Can you help us by fostering him? Please let us know!!

UPDATE 11/30/08:

Blaze was in our rescue program as a young adult in 2004 and has recently been returned as is required by the adoption contract. His pet parents are divorcing and they felt they could no longer keep him. Once our volunteers get reacquainted with him we will post more information.

UPDATE 9/1/08:

Hi, my name is Blaze.  I am just getting over some skin allergies and have to be on a special diet.  I love to play; I have some squeaky toys and I chase after my human foster brother's trucks.  He plays with me a lot.  Oh, did I say I love to go for car rides! ?  I am a very well behaved boy and usually only bark when someone rings the doorbell.   I love to be around people and when my foster family is working in the yard and I am in the house, I will bark to let them know I want to come out too.

I  would do well in a home with another dog and with someone that is not gone for long periods of time.

Tinker is a big...and I mean BIG baby. She only wants to give kisses and lie down by you. She gets along well with her two foster brothers and is good with kids big and small. She has a mellow disposition for her age, is potty trained, and learning about the crate. She needs a home that is willing to help her lose some weight with diet and exercise.

Tinkerbell needs to be an only dog or with a submissive male.

Comments from foster home:

My name is Ophelia which in Greek means "help."  I need just a little extra help and attention because I am a non-hearing Boxer. I am very sweet and loving and know some hand signals already, a big one being the "come" command. I got that one nailed of course; it only works if I am looking at you, and well I am a puppy so 'nuff said. Mom is teaching me to ring a bell at the back door to let her know I need to go out. So far I just know to go to the back door. Maybe someday I will show her I can ring the bell too.

Mom says I am on goofy juice. I love to chase a light in the yard or in the house. I am very interested in any light or shadow movement. I am so silly - I just get a burst of energy and act so silly mom just laughs and laughs.
I am ready to be adopted, I just need to be spayed and that will happen this week.
I am crate trained and get along with the other dgos in the house. I saw the cat tonight and didn't feel the need to chase after him so I guess I am cat friendly. As for who I would like to adopt me, it would be best that I have a hearing dog in the home to learn from and follow.

UPDATE 12/18/08:

Hello! My name is Ophelia and I am a light-a-holic.  You may be wondering... what is a light-a-holic? Well, basically, I must have the light.  A flash light, a laser light, any light, even my own shadow is something I like to chase. I become so fixated that mom is saying I have to take some time off from The Light.  I don’t know how long I can make it though; so far it's been about 30 minutes and I am about to break.

Hi there, Ophelia’s mom here. She really does enjoy chasing after the light. She runs so fast and thinks nothing of crashing head first into walls or furniture. She will run and bury her head into her doggie bed at such a fast pace that her whole body comes off the ground and almost flips over. Usually a light is a great way to get a deaf dog's attention. In Ophelia’s case, she will just chase it and chase it until she drops of exhaustion. It is actually quite funny to watch her just run back and forth and back and forth and just having so much fun. The other dogs usually just watch with a “what the heck are you doing?” look on their faces.

The perfect home for Ophelia will have a male dog in the home, no small young children and no female dogs.  If you think you can provide her the “perfect home” please fill out an application.

Clyde is a beautiful small Boxer boy who has charmed all the staff at the shelter from where he was pulled and the clinic where he is currently staying. He is other dog friendly. Due to a heartworm infection, Clyde will not be available for adoption until completion of his treatment.

UPDATE 11/22/08:

Clyde loves to ride in the front seat of the car; there are times he thinks he can drive or he just wants to sit in your lap.  He is a very loving boy who has to go thru heartworm treatment. Marabelle was turned into Sumter County Humane Society because she has heartworms. FBR was able to pull her from the shelter; she will not be available until heartworm treatment is complete and she gains weight. More info to come.

UPDATE 10/31/08:

Hey ya....It's Marabelle here. I didn't know my name so my foster mom calls me Bella and it is so much easier for me to understand. I was so thin and scared when she picked me up but I am sure glad she did. I know that I get 2 meals a day and lots of treats, love and kisses. I am learning to walk on a leash and "sit." I still have to work on my "down" and "stay" but all in good time! I sure do not like loud noises or sudden moves; they make me run away but I am learning to be more trusting. I am a very quiet little girl that hardly ever barks but I will let you know if I think something isn't right. My foster mom says that I am coming out of my shell everyday...don't know what that means but sounds good to me. I sure love getting on the couch and the bed with my big fur brother but I will get off if you ask me too. If you are missing a throw blanket, pillow, sock, etc. you might find it in my crate with me....my foster mom calls me her little klepto. I just want to be close to her, that's all!! I am really good with kids and and don't mind cats if they are not in my back yard...I'm supposed to run after them aren't I?? I started my first heartworm treatment last week and I'm doing well with it. I get to stay nice and quiet and watch TV a lot with my foster mom and big fur brother. Well, I better go...it's time for my favorite animal show and a frosty paw. Talk to you soon!

Daisy Duke is about 2 1/2 years old and has lived in an inappropriate environment for most of her life thus far. Daisy rides well in the car.  She is timid and scared; we think she has not been socialized much.  Daisy does give the sweetest

kisses - our vet says she has a very sweet disposition despite her neglectful upbringing. More to come!

Comments from foster home:

Kelsey was found wandering a neighborhood when a nice family took her in. She was skinny and dirty and very thirsty. This family surrendered her to Florida Boxer Rescue for medical treatment. Kelsey has just been spayed and has heartworms and needs to be treated for them before she can go to her forever home.

Kelsey can only stay in her current foster home until she starts treatment because she needs to be kept quiet and her foster Boxer brother is very high energy and will not let her get any rest. So, if you think you can provide a quiet place for Kelsey to go through heartworm treatment, please fill out an application to let us know!

Kelsey will tell you more about herself once her foster family gets to know her better.

Harley needs to visit a veterinarian and should brush up on his leash walking skills. He rides well in the car and is so friendly!

More info to come as we get to know him better.

UPDATE 9/11/08:

I am a very loving dog who would rather sit in your lap and enjoy the day than stay home alone. I love to chew on toys, those with stuffing are great but they do not last long.  My foster mom bought this really cool Busy Buddy, it is hard and lasts a very long time.  I love other dogs but I have not been around a cat yet. I love children (well anyone who will love me). I am still learning my manners and my foster parents ordered me a harness so I can walk on a leash properly. I have a foster sister and she and I love to play, jump, and box as us Boxers do; we have big fun together.  I hope one day I can meet you and maybe you can bring me home with you, until then I'll stay with the temporary family I have- they do care for me so well.  Oh yeah, do you have room in your bed for me?

Comments from foster home:

Hi everyone; I am Nadia I just came into rescue today so I have not told my foster mom too much about myself yet. I did go to the vet first thing after coming out of the shelter so I am all up to date on my vaccines. I got to meet lots of dogs big and small at the vets office and I just wanted to play with them all. I even got to meet a few kids. They were cute; I liked how they were petting and loving on me. I need some loving; I was found just running around in a field. Mom named me Nadia because it means "HOPE" and that is what I have - hope that a new family will adopt me and love me forever and never leave me to run in a field all by my lonesome again. I have hope that I might even get to have a friend to play with in my new home.

So if you think I am the cutest thing you have ever seen and want to just love and care for me please put in your application and let's meet.

UPDATE 11/19/08:

Hi folks, well mom said I needed to sit down and give you some updated information about myself.   As you can see by my picture I am absolutely adorable but I just found out from the doctor that the little bit of pain I was feeling in my hips is a mild case of arthritis and the starting of some hip dysplasia.  I love to run and have fun in the yard and I don’t always show that my hips are bothering me so it is going to be up to my new family to make sure I don’t overdo it.   I need to be kept lean and trim so the less weight on my hips the better.  Mom has already started me on special food with extra glucosamine and condroitin supplements in it so that should help.

Please don’t let this stop you from adopting me.  I get along great with all dogs, cats and kids but I should only go to a family with older children so that I don’t have to worry about a small toddler falling on me and hurting me.  I am not a mean little girl at all but mom said it would be better to just not put me in a situation where little ones might hurt me.  I love little kids so mom says I can still play with them but that their mommies and daddies just need to be sure to watch that they don’t fall on me or anything like that.

I love to snuggle and sit right beside you on the couch.   I know, I know, I shouldn’t be on the furniture but mom's other dogs are allowed so why shouldn't I be allowed?  And besides it is much more comfy than the tile floors.

Well I guess mommy knew what she was doing naming me Nadia which means hope.  So I do “hope” that there is a family out there who will love and care for me and give me all that I need to live a long happy life.

Magic is a very sweet Boxer mix. She is currently undergoing heartworm treatments and will be available to go to her furever home in mid-November.

UPDATE 11/15/08:

She is very sweet and gets along great with our 4 year old and we also have 2 other dogs. She is not aggressive at all! She lays flat on her stomach when she is resting with her legs out and it is so cute! She is potty trained and we have been successful at crate training her (she used to run away). She is a bit of a wanderer, so leash walking is required. Magic likes to sleep on the floor, so a nice big comfy bed would be great! She has been through her heartworm treatments and only requires a checkup but other than that she is good to go!

Hercules is a sweet gentle soul who wants nothing more than to give love and be loved in return.  He won the heart of every volunteer who met him during his transfer to FBR's vet.  He entered rescue because like many dogs recently, his humans were having financial difficulties. Unfortunately this young Boxer tested positive for heartworms and will need to undergo treatment and neuter procedure before he will be available for adoption at the end of November.

the car to show how happy is to be in FBR's care. More to come.

UPDATE 9/16/08:

Cosmo is a fun, playful dog....loves to play with dog toys, tossing, chewing, and shaking them.  Tug-o-war is the favorite game with foster fur sis and anyone else who will join in.

Cosmo may have been picked up as a stray but has definitely been trained at one time.  He knows "sit," "shake" (give me your paw), "down," "roll over," and "come" and does them quickly for a cookie!  He walks well on the lead but if distracted by a matter of interest (like a cat perhaps), he will tug hard in that direction.

He likes everyone, is very friendly and secure but especially likes men.  He follows his foster Dad around and wants to be with him, even climbing up in his lap.  He will cuddle with foster mom too, laying a very sweet head in her lap.

Cosmo has come a long way in his house training.  Somehow it seems to have been a forgotten element (however essential) of his training.  He does understand now that if he goes in the house, the people will not be pleased with him.  Basically Cosmo wants to please and has shown great improvement. He is an adorable Boxer boy with a very sweet temperament who needs a forever family to love.

Dear Santa,

I have been a very good girl this year.  I eat all my kibble and never try to sample my foster brother or sister's.  I even share my food with them!  I play outside with my toys and Hunter (my foster brother).  I stay in my crate while my foster mommy is at work  and as long as I have a toy and the t.v. on, I am a good girl.  I walk well on my leash when foster mommy takes me for walks and I behave really well in the car. I am up to date on all my vaccines and I am done with my heartworm treatment.

Santa,  all I want for Christmas this year is a forever family.  I promise to be good and love them with all my heart.  I promise to give them sweet Boxer kisses and jump for joy whenever they come home.  I don't even mind sharing them with another dog - in fact - I would prefer it!  I know if anyone can find me a forever home you can.  Please, please remember me when little boys and girls (even adults!) send you their Christmas list and they wish for a Boxer.

Thank you Santa, I will leave some milk and dog biscuits for you and your Boxers.  I know you will come through for me.

With Boxer slurps and hugs,
Cherish

Comments from foster home:

We were lucky to be able to pull Cherish from Citrus County Animal Services where she was picked up as a stray.

She has unbelievably sad eyes and is just skin and bones. Her skin will have to be evaluated as she is missing a lot of her fur. Cherish rode well in the car and walked well on a leash. She needs a foster home where she can receive lots of TLC in order to get the glimmer back in her eyes.

UPDATE 7/6/08:

Cherish is doing well in her foster home.  She has a fur brother and sister to play with.  She has lots of energy and it is hard to be believe she is 6 to 7 years young.  She has learned her name and will sit for a treat.  She likes to sit on the couch but will get off when told.  Most of her fur is back.  She needs to be spayed and then go through heartworm treatment.  She is very sweet and is delighted to be in a foster home instead of boarding.  More to come.

UPDATE 9/9/08:

Cherish is finished with heartworm treatment and is ready to be adopted.  All her fur has grown back and she is quite the character.  She jumps into bed and lays her head on the pillow like a person and pretends to sleep until you tell her to move!! She continues to love to play and will carry a stuffed toy around the house when she follows me room to room.  She plays well with her foster brother and sister Boxers. She likes to sprint in the yard and poke around looking for things to move.  She may be considered a "senior" but this girl acts more like a 4 year old with her goofy expressions and antics.

 UPDATE 11/7/08:

Cherish was evaluated by one of our vets for an age assessment. It was determined that the shelter incorrectly placed her at 7 years old; the veterinarian estimates that Cherish is closer to age 3.

My name is now Lennon which means "Dear One" in Irish.  I couldn't think of a better name for me.  I am a very sweet dog and get along with everyone and everything.  I like my foster brother and sister so far.  I walk well on the leash and know to potty outside.

I am not available for adoption right now as I have some skin allergies that mom needs to get worked out.  She said she is going to put me on a good healthy dog food and that should hopefully clear it up real soon.

 UPDATE 10/9/08:

Hi there, it's me Lennon. I know you have all been waiting for an update on how I am doing.  Well I went to a holistic vet today and she has determined that my problem is most likely something in the air and not food.  This makes it a little harder for me to overcome my problems but have no fear I will beat these yucky allergies.  I am currently on a raw diet with some supplements to help boost my immune system.  The doctor thinks that if I build up my immune system enough then my body can naturally fight the allergies.  It is going to be absolutely 100% required that I am always maintained on a strict diet.  The plan is to stay on a raw diet for now and then be able to tolerate a good quality kibble.  My mom is going to have several of the kibbles tested against my body chemistry to see if there is one that will work best of all.  However staying on a raw diet would be the best thing for me.

As for wanting to adopt me, if you are interested and willing to maintain me on my raw diet then please contact FBR.   I have to go back to the vet in about 4 weeks for a checkup.  Sadly I don’t know how long it might take to completely overcome this problem or if I ever will.  It is going to just take time and patience until the right combination is found.

Other then the skin issue, I am a happy healthy Boxer boy.  I love playing with my foster sister and would really prefer to have another dog to play with and a big back yard to run around in.  I have a bunch of energy and will need a way to burn that off each day and a daily walk is just not going to do the trick.

Baxter is a BIG BOY - built like a tank and full of Boxer energy.  He is just getting settled into his foster home and has met a few of the female dogs here and they played a bit.  He was turned into the vet as a stray and when they started calling owners (he is microchipped) everyone just said "Oh no, I gave him away." We cannot believe no one wanted this sweet boy.

He met some cats today and seemed to like them - will find out more as we get to know him here. Baxter will benefit from training and guidance. Check back for updates.

This little girl was so happy to be sprung from animal services. Ziva sat in her foster mommy's lap giving her tons of kisses. Samantha couldn't even drive with Ziva giving her so many kisses.
She is making great strides in her foster home and adores her foster brothers.
Ziva needs to gain a little weight and her staph infection needs to clear up before she is ready to go to a new forever home.

I am a beautiful girl who is losing my second home. I was given to my present family and have lived happily with them for 1.5 years, but they want to find me a new home because there is a new baby in the household. I get along with other dogs, and even CATS. I have some obedience training and walk well on a leash. I am a little girl and I don't eat very much. I'm ready for adoption, so please apply to adopt me - but only if you are committed to making this my last and final home!

Comments from foster home:  My name is Judah and I'm a tall Boxer boy. My humans gave me up when they moved to a really small place. I'm used to having a stay-at-home mom, another dog and kids to play with.  Luckily for me, FBR was able to take me in--and have me neutered while I'm here! They say that's a good thing! Now I'm going to a foster home but I really want to have a fur-ever family again - maybe with another Boxer girl to play with because I used to follow my Boxer sister around and play all the time. I'd rather play with her than squeak toys!! Come check me out soon!!

Comments from foster home:

My name is Macie.

I am the sweetest Boxer you'll ever meet.

I do not get on the furniture unless invited.

So by your bedside I will sleep

all night long without even a peep.

I am house trained so I go out in the morn and then I come in to go back to sleep.

I don't ever need a crate

as I am well mannered for you while I wait.

I turn circles every time you talk

Pull out the leash and together we will walk.

I live for a game of frisbee and I might be petite

but I can catch air up to 5 feet!!

No obstacle stands in my way so I can drop it at your feet.

I can even "sit," "shake" and "speak."

(My foster mom thinks I must have had some formal training.)

I can't wait for the next frisbee throw

but my fur mom says I'll have to wait awhile while I grow.

I have heartworms so there will be a delay as to when we meet

but I know my new furever home will be really neat!

I am working on leaving the cat alone

so maybe there will be no kitties in my new home.

I have a lot of energy so with a fur friend I can play

but don't worry I obey and do whatever you say.

I don't want to make a mistake so I am a little nervous around other dogs until I get to know them and they become a part of my world.

I love all humans of any age.

I would be a complete joy to someone as an only

I need all the love I can get

my road has been so long and lonely.

UPDATE:

Macie is recovering well from her heartworm treatment. She is gaining lots of weight and loves to eat. She looks up to her adult humans that care for her and she needs lots of attention and reassurance that she is safe and loved. Macie will do better in a home with older children. She is very alert of her surroundings. She loves to crawl in your lap to snuggle for a nap. She is a very smart girl and obeys very well. Macie only needs to be corrected one time. She loves to play games and "talks" to you to get your attention. She loves to eat and can't wait to take walks. She would do very well in a  home with one other dog to keep her busy even though she is fitting in very well with her two fur friends. She needs a home with lots of love where she can find her place and fit in perfectly fur-ever.

UPDATE 11/11/08:

Macie is a small Boxer at 3 years old and only 36 pounds. She loves kids and gives great kisses. Macie likes balls to play with and she'll bring them back to you. She also likes to go for walks and does well on a leash. Take her outside with you and she will play for hours. She is in great health and up to date on everything and is ready for adoption. Macie does well with submissive male dogs. You will soon see that she will light up your life once you bring her home!

Comments from foster home:

I am getting healthier everyday. My hair is growing in nicely since I'm being treated for mange.  Because I was not socialized, I am scared when I meet new people or animals. I will warm up quickly and enjoy playing with my foster siblings, (both large and small, male and female). I am learning to sit and stay off of things I shouldn't be up on and when I am told to leave it, I will just about listen every time. I am also just about  potty trained. Please apply to adopt me only if you understand that this big world frightens me and I want to learn but I need someone very kind and patient. I am a puppy and LOVE to chew on things so I could easily become very destructive. Please get me my own toys to play with and keep a close eye on on me so I don't get into anything that could potentially harm me. I am a snuggle bug and I love to play with any kind of squeaky toy. More to come soon.

Hi, I'm Meeko.  I was found as a stray and taken to the local shelter.  I was sooooo scared.  Then this nice lady came and rescued me.  I wasn't too sure of her at first, but I warmed up to her after she gave me these yummy things.  She kept calling them treats -whatever that is.  She took me to foster camp and I'm getting to know the other dogs there.  I love playing with them, but would love to find my fur-ever home.

Comments from foster home:

Tippy is crate trained (it is the closed travel type - not the wire type so she may feel safer in this kind of crate).

She is real close to being house trained as long as she goes outside often.  She will make a mistake if she is left alone too long. Her morning routine is to go outside immediately to pee and back inside to eat.  Then back outside after eating to poop and back inside!  After about 15 minutes she needs to go back outside to poop again.  The same goes in the afternoon when I get home. Tippy is still very timid although she has warmed up to us and especially me. She still hides behind the couch from time to time but not as much.

She must be placed in a home that has at least one other "playful" dog.  She and Tacoma play and run constantly.  This morning she, Thoth, Tacoma and our Boston even got into the play act together. Tippy does not like to be outside very long.  We leave the back sliding glass door open for them to come in and out and she is inside more than out, while the others stay outside.

She gets fed in her crate.  I do not think she would do well eating out of the same bowl or with other dogs.  She eats her food very, very fast which is probably a result of the environment she came from.

Tippy has a difficult time on the leash.  The harness works better for her than a collar with the leash.  I cannot get her to leave the house on a leash without dragging her or picking her up and carrying her.  Once she is away from the house like at Petsmart she does better on the leash but if we are in sight of the house she wants to head home.

She is a very lovable, sweet and pretty little girl who unfortunately had a bad start in her development and may never be what she should have been.

She has her follow up with Dr. Rumore next week for removal of her sutures.

Comments from foster home:

Ameera was dropped off at a veterinarian's office because the
nearest shelter was closed for the weekend. Once she was turned over to
Collier County Animal Services they contacted us immediately because they new this beautiful girl would have the best luck in a Florida Boxer Rescue foster home. Ameera has a very bad case of demodex as you can
see from her pictures and is also light heartworm positive. She will begin her treatments very soon to help her along the road to recovery. Her foster home says she is a lover. She greeted her new foster mom with hugs and kisses just as if she knew that this  was the person to make her feel better. She even has a little
ShiTzu foster sister to help her get her joy of life back. Check back for more news from the foster home as Ameera settles in and starts her medical treatments.

UPDATE 9/2/08:

Hello everyone, it's Ameera here.  I’ve been in my foster home for two weeks now and this place is great!  My foster parents are wonderful!  I follow them everywhere they go and love to give lots of kisses.  I have a little fur sister that’s a Shih Tzu.  She’s kind of crabby sometimes and doesn’t want to play with me too much, but I don’t mind taking orders from
her once in a while.  I have my own crate that I don’t mind going into it when mom and dad go to work and boy do I love going for car rides.  Mom says that she is thrilled that I know where to do my business.  I bet she
didn’t know that I was going to be so smart when she picked me up.  By the
way, I also know how to "sit," "stay" and "shake."

I was really sick when I first got to my new foster home, but I’ve gotten much better in the last couple weeks.  Mom tells me that I have this stuff called demodex, which has caused a lot of my hair to fall out and my skin to itch.  I’m getting ready to start treatment for this now that I’m feeling better...I can’t wait to get my beautiful coat back.  In addition,
I am heartworm positive so I’ll have to get rid of those things as
well…whatever that means.

Well, I guess that’s all for now.  We’re having company tonight so I need
to help mom get ready for the guests.  I can’t wait to see everyone!  I’ll
let you know how that goes next time.

UPDATE 10/24/08:

Well, it’s me Ameera again. Everything has been going great here and my foster mom has been keeping me busy. She took me to the Sarasota Pet Expo and Camp Bow Wow last weekend. I got to meet Lennon and boy did I want to
play with him, but mom said no because there were too many people around. Mom also took me to the dog park for the first time. I wasn’t sure about that place in the beginning, but after watching all of those dogs running
around I quickly joined in the fun. I really liked all of the people there too. I hope she takes me back there soon.

I’m getting my hair back as you can see from my pictures! There a few spots that still need to fill in, but mom says that I should be back to normal in no time. I went to see Dr. Butts yesterday for my second skin scraping and she said that she saw one darn mite that was alive on the slide so she wants my mom to give me one more dip and then wait two weeks
for another skin scraping. Keep your fingers crossed that this is the last time I’ll have to go through that! Once I get the "all clear" for the demodex I’ll be able to start my heartworm treatment. I hear that’s no
fun, but mom says that she’ll take good care of me until I’m better.

At home my Shih Tzu fur sister is warming up to me. She’s still the boss, but at least she’ll play with me now. We love to play fetch in the house and have learned how much fun it is to play tug of war even though she is
so much smaller than me…I let her win sometimes just to be nice. Mom is working with me on the leash. I just don’t understand why I can’t pull her around, but she says that’s not nice and is teaching me how to walk
properly.

Well, I’m off for now. I’ll let you know what Dr. Butt’s has to say after
my next appointment.

UPDATE 11/17/08:

Hi Everyone!  I’ve had another busy week so I have a lot of new
information for you.  The best news I received all week was about my
demodex.  I had my third skin scraping and Dr. Butts said that she didn’t
see any mites on the slide, not even a dead one so it looks like I’m done
with those yucky dips.  I can’t even begin to tell you how glad I am to
not have to go through that again!

I also went to see the ophthalmology specialist on Friday and found out
that I have something called KCS, or dry eye.  This is a condition that
I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life, but as long as my forever
family will give me the drops and ointment I need it should be okay.  I’ve
started taking some medications that should help, but have to go back for
a recheck in 2 ½ weeks to make sure that they’re working.

Lastly, and not so much fun, I’m going to start my heartworm treatment
tomorrow so I’ll be staying at the vet’s office for a few days.  I’m not
looking forward to this, but I know that they'll take good care of me
while I'm there.  My foster mom says that she’ll make sure that we follow
all of Dr. Butts orders when I get home so that I get better in no time.

Other than going to the vet’s, I’ve been going to the dog park a lot and I
can’t tell you how much fun that is!  I love running around and playing
with all of the dogs there.  I also went to an FBR event at the Omni Club
in Fort Myers on Saturday and everyone told me what a pretty girl I was…it
sure feels good getting all of these compliments.  If only they would have
been around to see me back in August, I bet they would be even more
surprised at how good I look now.  Take a look at my picture and you’ll
see what I’m talking about!

Well, I’m off for now.  My foster parents said that today is my last day
of running around for a while since I’m going for my heartworm treatment
tomorrow so they’re going to spoil me for the day. That’s nothing new, but
I’m not going to tell them!

Comments from foster home:

Hi there!  Cassie here!  My humans moved into a condo that would not allow dogs, so the nice men and women at Florida Boxer Rescue were kind enough to take me in.  I am a little sad, but I am settling in nicely at my foster home.  My foster mommy is really nice, and I have taken quite a liking to my new foster fur brother.  He is young and full of energy, but I am having no trouble keeping up with him at all!  My foster mommy says that I am very smart and know how to "sit," and "shake."  I guess I am going to have to give my new fur brother some pointers :)

I LOVE to ride in the car, and I love to play with my toys.  I have been told that I am a pretty easy going gal, and I love kids and other dogs.  I have heard of cats before, but I haven't been around them yet, so I don't know exactly what I would do in a home with one.  Mommy mentioned something about me being a little pudgy (whatever that means!), so she is going to put me on a little diet.  She said not to worry though- she diets all the time, and it's not that bad.

Oh yes, my previous family said that I get a little nervous in rainstorms, so I may want to cuddle up with you in a bad storm; hope you don't mind doing a little snuggling with this full figured, lovable gal!

 UPDATE 10/13/08:

Hey everybody!  Cassie here!  Actually, I should say a very new and improved Cassie here! :)  I am proud to say that my foster fur-brother and I have been running around and playing so much that I have lost some much needed weight, and the vet says I look absolutely magnificent!  I love to go on walks with my foster mommie, and romp around with my fur-brother!  I gotta tell you, though, my favorite thing to do is CUDDLE!  I LOVE to cuddle with my foster mommie and just be near her.  She is so nice to me, and takes me for long walks in the morning, and in the evening when the weather cools down a bit, and I just love it!  All of my neighbors think I am the sweetest thing, and love to watch me do the "kidney bean dance" when I greet them.

Did I mention that I also LOVE KIDS?!  Well, I do!  I know how to behave around them, and I just love to kiss them and be close to them!  Everyone tells me I am such a sweet, funny girl, with a lovable personality.  As much as I love living with my foster mommie, I really want to go to my forever home.  I still have so much life left in me, and can't wait to share it with you!

Comments from foster home:

Sahara was fortunate enough to be pulled from a Florida shelter. She rode well in the car.  She sat up most of the trip and then decided to lay down for 10 minutes. She was a little scared but her nub was wagging and she

was giving out kisses. More to come once she is placed in a foster home.

UPDATE 10/14/08:

Sahara is finally off isolation and got to meet her foster Boxer brother today.  They played well in the yard but he is 6 years old and after a while, he had enough.  She has yet to meet her younger foster sisters.  When she is available, Sahara needs to go to a family with a dog that will match the energy level of a young Boxer.  I have yet to see her sit still outside of the crate.  Sahara is constantly moving and will play with her fishy toy by herself.  She will lay in your lap and chew on a nylabone or her fishy toy for about 2 minutes and then she is moving again.  She likes to shadow you and can easily jump a dog gate in the house if separated from you. She will need some training for manners in the house and needs to use a gentle leader when on leash.  She crates well and is housetrained.  Sahara will sit for a cookie and we are working on the commands "come" and "off."    She has put on some weight and eats like a champ.  She will start her heartworm treatment next week and will be unavailable until that is completed.  I will keep you updated with this sweet, beautiful girl's progress.

My name is TJ. I am a 2 year old Boxer that is looking for a new home. My mommy has been sick and I am not getting all the attention that I need. I am very, very friendly and I like to play a lot. I am housebroken, but I do still like to chew on things. I love children, but I get a little rough sometimes. I sure would like to go to a new home so that someone can spend a lot of time with me. I have been living with another older male and we get along fine.  Not sure how I am with cats yet.

I'm not so sure if they are right; I may not look like a full Boxer but I play like one and am as smart as one so heck, I'm calling myself a Boxer.
My new foster family has only had me for a couple of days but they said that I am very very smart and tons of fun to have around, and at 6mo. old I can even tell you when I want to go potty. So you see, whether I am a Boxer or a mix I am a very intelligent and loving pup and would love to come into your home and show you what a wonderful companion pet I will be.

All my love,
Sheba (Rose)

Comments from foster home:

Pooch is a very sweet dog that just needs love and attention. He is very playful even with a cone on his head and a hurt leg. He was bitten by a brown recluse spider and needs some time for this to heal so he can be the active and happy Boxer that he so clearly wants to be. He was not used to riding in the car and was very excited and he gets along well with other dogs (he and Rusty were both pulled from Polk County SPCA).

Comments from foster home:

Miranda was rescued from the same deplorable conditions as her puppy siblings.  But she is getting healthier and gaining weight every day.  She has shown her foster family how happy she is to be in their home by all the kisses she gives.

Suffering from malnutrition, flea infestation, and multiple parasites zapped her strength and her immune system.  This caused an injury to her left hip when just trying to play like a puppy.  Thankfully, after x-rays & bed rest, she is recovering steadily with no broken bones and can be spayed soon.

Miranda has become a real lap dog.  She loves to give kisses and "wet willies."  Miranda is still slow to warm up to new people both indoors and out.  But when she does, she will play fetch with a tennis ball for you.

She walks short distances on the leash but startles easily so she will need patient obedience training to develop more confidence.  Our resident Boxer, Bones, has become her playmate.  They run and frolic like Boxers but stay close to home.  She also plays well with other dogs and would be best in a family with another dog.

Miranda is almost house trained and crate trained.  But we must be vigilant and take her out frequently.  With praise and positive rewards this will become a piece of cake.   She has been spayed, weighs 33.3 pounds and received a clean bill of health.  Yeah!!  So, if you can give her love and patience your family would be blessed to have her.  Then she will return that love 10 fold.

Comments from foster home:

Rizzo was left at a vet's office for boarding but his human never came back to pick him up. After sending numerous certified letters with no response, the vet neutered and brought Rizzo up to date and turned him over to FBR.

Because Rizzo spent three months in a kennel, he's got lots of extra Boxer energy to burn!!  He's a young Boxer with little to no obedience training so a home that will provide adequate and proper exercise is a MUST!  He's very goofy and though alright with children, he should go to a home with older children as he may get over-excited and knock young ones down.  He lived with a chocolate lab before so is good with other dogs, but not sure about cats.

More to come when Rizzo gets a foster home and they get to know him better.

Comments from foster home:

Mia was pulled from the Hillsborough County Animal Shelter.  She is a sweet little girl that will receive lots of TLC from her foster home to bring her back the the wiggly, bouncy Boxer girl she should be.  She is very interested in her handsome foster brother Zorro.  More info about Mia will follow once the foster home gets to know her a little better.

UPDATE 7/20/08:

Hi from Mia’s Foster Parents!  Mia was picked up from the Hillsborough Animal Shelter on July 12, 2008.  She was apparently used for puppy breeding.  She was severely underweight.  You could count all her bones.  She was just spayed while at the shelter.  She is doing very well!  The vet’s office and our neighbors cannot believe how much better she already looks in one week.  Mia adjusted to our home immediately.  She listens very well but mainly just wants to be with us.  She rides very well in the car.  She is social with the other dogs in our neighborhood & loves the kids as well.  Although she was reportedly 6 years old, she still has her "puppy-like" personality.  We will report more later as she gains some much needed weight.

Hi this is Mia!  My foster family feeds me great food and says I will be back to my gorgeous self in no time.  I love my foster brother Zorro and my foster Mom & Dad!  I did not know how great life could be!  My foster Mom is always telling me what a good girl I am.  I get to go on several walks a day.  My foster dad says I am great on the leash.  I just know that I love seeing the birds, squirrels and listening to all the sounds.  All of us saw our first otter a couple of days ago, Cool! I love to play tug rope but mainly enjoy hanging out with my foster family.  It is time for another meal, so I will write more later.

Comments from foster home:

I have come a very long way, since my foster Mom pulled me out of

a shelter. I have gained weight, started to play, and discovered I have a deep bark (I only use it when someone comes to the door). I am a real "kisser," so be prepared for lots of Boxer love. I am starting yucky heartworm treatment, but when I am finished, I will show you how fast I can run. Mom says I am very laid back, get along great with other dogs & cats, don't pull on the leash, come when called (usually it's for something yummy), and love to cuddle.

If you are looking for a happy, mature boy, I am your guy!

UPDATE 9/22/08:

I am finished with my HW treatment and am now a perfect 59lbs. I love to "play Boxer", with my foster brother and sister, enjoy the company of other dogs, and am very cat friendly. Mom says I walk well on a leash, and she can juggle all three of us. I am a very happy boy and am as sweet as pie.

Hi my name is Chelsea!  I am a very pretty Boxer girl that had a little bit of a rough life so far.  My previous humans dropped me off at Orange County Animal Services after using me as a breeding mommy (it is common knowledge that you should NEVER EVER breed white Boxers!!!).  I am a little small but I am getting bigger & stronger.  My first few days at my foster parent’s home have been great.  I have a fun 5 yr old human foster sister that gives me lots of hugs and kisses.  I have a foster fur-brother (Dexter) that I am getting to know.  It takes me some time to warm up to other dogs; my dad is working with me every day to play nice with Dexter. I think I would rather just hang out with my foster human family and give them all my love and attention.  My mom says I have the softest skin ever and she just loves me because I am so happy, sweet and full of love.  I think it was love at first sight.  She can’t resist my puppy face!!  Mom has never seen such a pretty white Boxer.  Here is what I would love in my forever home:  because I am a princess, I want all your attention so I ask that I be the only dog in the house.  I want to have kids to play with.  I play so well with my foster human sister that my foster parents want me to have lots of human hugs and kisses.  If you want the sweetest little Boxer to love you forever, I am your girl.

housebroken and walks fairly well on a leash and does know "sit."

Daisy is a calm, sweet girl, ready to give kisses and wiggles to anyone who wants them. As soon as she has her heartworm treatment she will be ready to find her real forever home. She will make a
wonderful addition to any family suited for the breed. Please check back to hear more about Daisy as we get to know her.

Comments from foster home:

I'm shy so that's why my picture isnt up yet.

My human simply didn't want me anymore and dumped me at a Brooksville shelter. FBR pulled me into their program so I could find a loving, permanent home of my own.

I have hookworms and am heartworm positive so obviously my first family did not care for me properly. I am afraid of sudden movements and it takes me a little while to warm up, but, then I climb in

your lap to give you kisses!  I need to learn how to trust humans all over again.

I need someone who is patient and loving to come and adopt me. I hope to meet you soon!!

UPDATE 9/11/08:

This shy and timid little girl has made a quick turn around - she is all kisses and wiggles.  She meet her foster brother

and for a moment I thought it wasn't going to work. Well, I turned around and there she is down on all fours and

that paw just swatting at him - she wanted to play so bad!

I feel with a slow introduction Demi would do well with another dog.

Comments from foster home:

Bernard is a very sweet, friendly, and adorable boy in search of love and care. He walks well on a leash and gets along very well with other dogs, cats, and people.  He might have had some training before because he knows "sit," "stay," and "come" commands. He was found as a stray and taken to the local shelter. It broke our hearts to know that his time at the shelter was up the very day we (FBR) picked him up, but he's been lucky enough to have a second chance and now this handsome boy is waiting to find his forever loving home where he can wag his tail as much as he has done in his foster home.

From BERNARD:  Now I have two new friends and two great foster parents. At times I cannot believe this is really happening, everything has changed so much within a day that at times I feel it is a dream. I hope this never ends because it feels so great! PLEASE HELP ME TO BE HAPPY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!

Comments from foster home:

Rusty is a very sweet senior dog that is a puppy a heart! He rode well in the car, and was very happy to be out of the shelter. He is about 10 pounds underweight and needs to fatten up!

UPDATE FROM FOSTER HOME:  9/24/08

Rusty is doing really well and gets along great with our resident male Boxer.  They eat together, sleep together and he bounces across the yard wanting to play.  Don't let Rusty's age fool you, he's still very playful and full of energy!

Rusty is starting to realize the food will come regularly, so he doesn't need to gobble his food down.  He is housetrained and has the run of the house when we are home, but we crate him during the day and anytime we leave since he is new to our home.

Right now we are working on introducing Rusty to our two cats.  He is very intense and really wants to sniff them when they are in our laps so we'll have to keep you updated on his progress with the kitties.

If you're looking for a Boxer who is a little older yet still full of life, please consider Rusty.  He'd really like to find his forever family and a place to call home!

Update 10/1/08:

Hi Everyone!  Now that I've settled into my foster home I wanted to tell you a little more about myself.

I absolutely LOVE running around outside with my Boxer pal or playing ball and frisbee with my foster family so my new home needs to have a doggy buddy and a fenced yard for playtime.

I'm crate and housetrained with very good manners in the house.  I don't jump up on people and enjoy the grandchildren when they come visit.  I'm not perfect though...turns out I'm overly curious of the cats so I should not go to a home with kitties!

Don't let a little silver in our faces stop you from considering an older Boxer!  Come visit me and I'll show you all the reasons why we're FBR's best kept secret!!!

Comments from foster home:

I can't believe my luck - yesterday I was found with a
vacuum power cord around my neck, was starving and thirsty and some
nice humans came and picked me up.

Bonnie's adoptive family stated she needed space to run and play so she is back in our program.  She is such a sweet heart.  Bonnie is getting used to her foster parents giving her so much love. In the first two days in her foster home she has made a vast improvement and is now approaching her foster mom and foster dad to give and receive lots of love.  She rides well in the car and behaves herself when taking a bath.  She is a smart dog!  Her foster dad already taught her how to 'sit' and 'stay' and she is working on the command of 'down.'  She does well in the crate overnight but barks a bit when she first goes in the crate.  Bonnie plays well with her foster brother Scooby, who is also a Boxer.  She likes to run throughout the house so she needs to be in a home where it is okay to run and play inside as well as outside.  She would do well in a house that has a fenced in yard but also in a home where she would go on lots of walks.  She likes to cuddle with her foster parents and with her foster brother, Scooby. Scooby and Bonnie love to play tug of war with their Kong Wubba!  She is working on her house training skills and has had a couple accidents but she seems to know that she is supposed to potty outside.  She is a lover-girl and a wiggle worm!  Her tail is always wagging!  She will make a wonderful family dog.

Bonnie loves to run!  She would do best in a home with a fenced yard where she could run and play without the fear of her getting hurt.  She bolts out the door and runs off with seemingly no direction for where she wants to go – she just wants to run!  She is a little weary of new people but as soon as she realizes they mean her no harm, loves the attention she gets from them.  She is a big cuddler and loves to be scratched and give kisses.  She loves to sit in laps or lay down next to her humans and use their body as a head rest!  Bonnie has already become protective of the house. When people walk by the house she makes sure she lets them know that she is inside by barking at them!  She is a wiggle-worm who wags her whole body when she is greeted in her crate in the morning.  Bonnie loves playing with her toys.  I will send more updates as I get to know her better.

Comments from foster home:

As you can see, right now I am not looking as handsome as other Boxers in rescue.  FBR pulled me from Orange County Animal Services; my previous humans didn't take care of my skin or feed me properly.  But everyone who sees me says that someday soon my coat will be shiny and my ribs won't show.  I am being medically treated right now and will keep you posted on how I am doing but I am just thankful to be in such a good home.  Please check back on me as updates will be forthcoming.

UPDATE 7/21/08:

Dexter is a lovely dog. He needs lots of love and assurance. He is skittish as sudden movements scare him.  Dexter also does not like the grass so he wants to go to the bathroom on the concrete.  We'll work with him on this matter.  He does not bark.  This poor guy must not have received much love because he is desperate to get any attention.  He will follow you everywhere you go and have his head on your lap at all times.  If not, he will whine.  Of course Boxer fanatics think "oh adorable," but some people may not enjoy having a needy dog that wants constant attention.  Dexter is great with kids and doesn't pay any attention to other dogs - almost like they don't exist.  So far Dexter's personality is very relaxed.

Dexter is unsteady on his legs.  Steve has to carry him down the stairs.  I assume this will change once he is no longer on medication and as he gets stronger.  On Monday he was neutered but his procedure was special.  From what I was told, only one testicle dropped so his surgery was a bit more invasive.  His mange was horrible but is getting better. This week Dexter will get his stitches removed and in 5 weeks he will need to get a scraping to test the mange.  I was told that Boxers need two clean scrapings.  So from my calculations, Dexter should be available for adoption in 2 & 1/2 months.  We'll continue to observe his behavior and hopefully some more wonderful Boxer personality will start to shine through once Dexter starts to feel better. Stay tuned!

UPDATE 9/10/08:

Dexter is definitely kid friendly. We have a 5 yr old and she plays very well with Dexter. He came to us in bad shape. He
was very scared of sudden movements but having a 5 yr old around all the time he has gotten over his fears. Since he was pulled from Orange County without any information, we don’t know much about him except his
demodex. Orange County said he was 11 months old but 2 other vets have said he is 3-4 years old because of his teeth. He is a small framed Boxer and probably weighs about 47 pounds. When he first came to us he
was afraid of the grass and would only go to the bathroom on concrete.

Dexter is a VERY nice dog and doesn’t bark – not even a peep. I wonder if his vocals were damaged at some point because he has never made a sound. He does need obedience training and he likes to jump a lot. I
think that he was very neglected in his previous life so now he craves attention all the time. Because of this he forgets his doggie manners and will jump all over you. He does whine if you don’t give him
attention but doesn’t bark. His health has gotten much better. He still has some patches of black
skin (demodex) and some places where it’s red from the demodex. Dexter also has a new coat coming in some places. He needs to go in 2 weeks for his next skin scraping and there are some minor sores on his paw that I want
looked at. Besides that he is a healthy and very active dog. He loves to run, even if by himself.

Dexter should be ready for adoption when the vet gives the ok for his
health. So I am guessing last week of Sept / 1st week of Oct.

Nacho's family situation changed and so he was returned to FBR. He is a friendly boy who is great with other dogs, both large and small.  He is calm for a young Boxer and good with children. He is house and crate trained and will let you know if he needs to go out. He doesn't chew and is not a barker.  Nacho really enjoys spending time with his family and going for long walks.  He gets a little nervous if he is left alone too much so he is looking for a family where someone is home often and has another dog or two in the home for company and play.  Nacho is a complete love and will provide you with lots of Boxer kisses.  If you are looking for a sweet cuddlebug then he may be the one for you!

Jersey & her son Nemesis were surrendered to FBR due to divorce and other personal issues. Jersey is a sweet, strong light Fawn girl with a natural tail.

UPDATE 7/12/08:

Jersey is just as sweet as she can be. She knows commands such as "sit," "come," "down," "go to bed," "lay down" and "crate up." She is very loving and loves lots of attention. She gets along well with all my other dogs so she will do well in a home with at least one other dog. Jersey is starving for attention so I would recommend no more than 2 other dogs. She has her natural tail and will make someone an amazing pet and companion! She is protective and will bark when someone comes to the door. Not sure about kids and cats but she did do well with the 13 year old neighbor boy. I don't know what else to say except that Jersey is just the sweetest, most loving and well behaved dog. She would be a blessing in someone's home.

WANTED: a forever home!!!! NEEDED: Human touch!!!!!! REWARD: lots of Boxer hugs, wiggles and kisses!!!!!

This four year old brindle boy is a sweetie pie.  "Buster Brown" as we call him, has the prettiest eyes and his face is very expressive. He has some flash on his chest, feet and face. In addition to his good looks he has charm galore. Buster is very "low key" for a Boxer. He likes to lay next to your chair or walk on a leash beside you. He is a gentleman with his food and especially if you are giving him treats. This pretty boy warms up quickly to all people and just loves to have any attention. Buster likes his doggie roommates both male and female, young and old.  He does like to mount them but a quick correction is all that is needed to tell him that is unacceptable. This will improve once he is neutered. Unfortunately he has to undergo heartworm

Adoption Status: Adopted 8/25/08

Comments from foster home: Mosi came to rescue because his human was moving and not bringing him along. He was previously kept in an inappropriate environment and therefore must work on leash walking and potty training. Mosi appears to adore kids and other dogs and likes to give hugs. More info to come.

UPDATE 8/19/08:

Hi!  My name is Mosi.  My new foster mom and dad say I am SUCH a cuddler.  I am non-aggressive and I am well behaved around my foster sister Roxy.  I don't chew stuff up and I'm not a  counter-surfer or garbage can diver. I walk fairly well on the leash.  When I  start to pull on the leash, mom  will stop and I will 'remember' -"oh yeah, I have to wait for slow-poke mom."  I even  listened to mom when she told me I couldn't chase one of the many bunnies that live in the area.

Potty training is the focus however.  I am not potty trained at all!  I was kept in an inappropriate environment where I didn't have to worry about where I "went" so I never learned the difference between "inside and outside."   Mom says it is their priority to help me learn the difference between going indoors and out.   I am on a strict schedule with feeding, watering and walking. Mom says when I am indoors I have to wear 'pants' so I can learn not to lift my leg whenever I feel like it.  I will need to have a family dedicated to enforcing the new behavior that I am  learning so that I don't fall back into unwanted habits.  I really want to please my new family; I am trying hard to learn.  I really just want to be the BESTEST boy in the world so my new family will love me and let me cuddle up, my favorite place to be.

Love, Mosi

Adoption Status: Adopted 8/18/08

Posted to website:  8/1/08   Dog Number:  F08-116

Location:  Amanda is contact

Comments from foster home:

Ivy was found making her way up the on ramp of I-4. A good samaritan found her and took her home. After attempting to find her home and being scanned for a microchip (which she did not have), Ivy made her way to our rescue program. What we know about her so far is that she's a cuddler, a kisser, and just an all around happy dog.
She is currently in heat and will need to be spayed and brought up to date on vaccines before she can be adopted. We can safely assume she was not kept in a proper home as she doesn't seem to be potty trained, but we'll work on that.

UPDATE 8/12/08:

Ivy needs to be an only dog in her new home.  If you don't have any dogs and don't plan to get any other dogs, please consider Ivy for your family.  Ivy is a very loving and loyal dog to her humans.  She loves to cuddle and loves to give kisses.  She just prefers all the attention.  She is great with young and old humans alike.  Ivy has been around a cat and ignored him for the most part; even so, we cannot safely say that she would do well in a home with a cat. Ivy does need to go through HW treatment, but will be ready for adoption after that.  She needs a foster home, so if your home fits the criteria above, please consider helping her.

Comments from foster home:
Lucy was loose in a neighborhood for three weeks before anyone could get close enough to feed her. After she started eating, someone was able to catch her. Lucy is a very small girl (very skinny), but all her tests came back negative with
the exception of having an urinary tract infection. The vet wants to put a little weight on her before he spays her. More info to come.

UPDATE 8/18/08:

Hello out there - I am Lucy Lou. I am a beautiful, small, fawn girl. I have cropped ears and a docked tail. I only
weigh 30 lbs and should probably weigh about 40 lbs when I am healthy. I am young but have already had at least one
litter of pups. I am probably not much over a year old. I was roaming the neighborhood for three weeks before I got
hungry enough to trust a human. I was very, very skinny and very scared. The kind people who found me couldn't keep
me, but they notified FBR and here I am!

I am in a foster home with a very BIG fawn Boxer boy and two black kitties. I sometimes think the kitties are fun to
chase but they don't agree. I get along fine with my big brother and am even letting him know that sometimes I want
to be top dog! I have been to the vet and got a pretty good bill of health. No heartworms or other icky parasites. I do have a urinary tract infection but am taking medicine for that. I have had several pee pee accidents, but that may be because of the infection. I am supposed to be spayed on September 5 and then will be able to go to my forever home.

I love to snuggle and kiss and get very excited anytime someone comes in. My foster family won’t let me on the
couch, so I lay at their feet and make sure some part of my body is making contact with them.
To know me is to love me and I guarantee all you have to do is see me and it will be love at first sight!

He doesn't beg for food when you're eating, and he's the most mellow Boxer I've ever met! What a GEM. Ike was originally found as stray. FOSTER HOME UPDATE 5/25/08:

It’s been an exciting week for me!  I was at this place for many days that was hard everywhere and lonely.  But, it was roomy and I had a way to go outside and sprawl out in the sun.  I was out there taking a sun nap and suddenly, I felt this tap on me and woke to see a lady, I’d never seen before, waiting outside my pen smiling.  She smelled like a person and I could feel a happy warm fuzzy feeling as she sat down with me outside that pen.  Next thing I knew I was being led outside by her! The person led me to this box thing you sit in that moved when she turned this big wheel in her lap.  She had a nice touch and kept scratching and stroking me as she moved us to who knows where.  It was so nice to have her touching me and she kissed on me every time the moving box stopped for a bit.  Oh I forgot to tell you something!  She was thinking (didn’t tell you I could read her mind, did I ?) that when she called & called & called me and I didn’t budge from my sleep until she went and tapped on me, I must not be able to hear.  Yipppeeeeee! Someone finally noticed!!  After a long, long ride, we got out of the moving box and into another building.  The person told me by her thoughts that everyone there is nice and they are going to help me be well.  Another lady came and led me away.  I looked back and my person wasn’t behind me!  Where had she gone?  Did she leave me here? Where am I going? Why am I here?  The next day, I got stuck in the rump with something sharp and OWEEEE!! my rump muscle began to hurt!  OK, what next?  I woke the next day with a really sore rump. Days passed and I was walked again to the front of that building and there she was!  My person! Are we going to the moving box? Are you going to scratch and stroke me all over again? Are you going to kiss on me again?  She walked me outside, we got into the moving box!, she nudged me to sit and lie down and the wonderful scratching & stroking began!  I was happy but oh so tired and slept most of the way on a long, long ride.  She led me out of the moving box, we walked around on some grass for a bit, and then she took me into a place that smelled like happy dogs and felt all warm and fuzzy.  I was allowed to walk anywhere I wanted and all I could think was, "I could really get used to this!"  It had lots of different rooms and lots of different smells and I felt really really happy!  I’ve been here now for a lot of days getting lots of attention and every time I wake up I see that I’m still in this place and wonder if I’ll get to stay.   I think I’ll call my person "Mama" for now 'cuz she treats me like she will protect me and I’m sure she loves me  I’m very sleepy, so time for a long long nap………pawtoooodles for now!

True to his name, the future pet parent of Klondike could very well find gold in this beauty.  While he is without hearing, he has been treated well in his former home and is full of love and life.  So far he is good with dogs, is curious about the cat, loves to play in water and is fully house trained. Klondike does have a strong will and needs training, but with a little effort, he could be 24 karats worth of "Eureka!"

Comments from foster home:

Sunni is an “all natural” Boxer girl!  She is approximately 7 months old with natural ears and tail. She is a petite girl, and her coat is a deep mahogany fawn color.   Sunni and her littermates were rescued from a backyard breeder who kept them in an inappropriate & neglectful outdoor environment. She had little to no exposure to anything outside her backyard.

We continue to work on her housebreaking. She is crate trained & goes in the crate easily when asked.  She has started Puppy Obedience and continues to work on basic puppy obedience skills & manners. She had no problem letting me cut her nails.  Sunni enjoys investigating the backyard, playing with the resident Boxers, zooming around the house/yard & playing with her all of toys.  She thinks the cats are fun, but has not chased them or hurt them. She has a good appetite and is gaining much needed weight.  Sunni has lots of typical Boxer puppy energy & is inquisitive.  She continues to be somewhat shy & noise sensitive. She really likes other dogs & appears more confident around them; it would be best if she went to a home with another dog.  She is learning to experience new environments outside our house/yard & grow into a more confident dog—she has made great progress already.  She will need a patient pet parent to help her continue to grow physically & emotionally.  She has a clean bill of health and will be spayed on 8/29/08.  Sunni is looking for a forever family where she will be the “ray of sunshine” for many years to come.

Comments from foster home:

I picked Melina up from Polk County Animal Services. She was so scared, she didn't want to come with me.

I helped her into the car and for the first twenty minutes she stood up. She wouldn't lie down, sit, nothing.  I thought oh my, this is going to be a long trip.

She finally laid down and fell fast asleep. By the time we got to the vet her little nub was wiggling and she was

bending in half as only Boxers can. Melina has had many litters in her previous life; she is a very sweet little

girl and more will come once she is in a foster home.

UPDATE 9/30/08:

hi my name is Melina

i will love you forever!! if you'd just please take me home

please don't let my saggy nipples turn you off

i feel invisible in a home with many

but i'll make do

i stay in a crate quietly, once I am kinda sorta nudged in

i am leash trained, just please don't ever tie me up outside, even

in the same place you left me

it would be so grand if i had a back yard

but i'll make do

i don't wine, i don't fuss, all I want is

Comments from foster home:

Morgana here -- mom just calls me Morgan.  Boy it was a "Happy Day" when Mom and the other Florida Boxer Rescue people took us from our old home.  There wasn't enough food for every dog, but there sure were a lot of bugs (fleas). And I had to sit outside in the dirt all the time with my brothers & sisters.

I really like my new foster home.  I have a soft bed & 2 fur-siblings.  Even staying in the crate is comfy.  Mom & Dad let me sit on their laps too.  Well, I have to go now to try to play with Zora & Bones. My foster mom will give you some more information now:

Like her siblings, Morgana was treated for hookworms, roundworms and even tapeworms... oh Yuck!!!   She also had a large sore on her ear from trying to scratch away the yeast infection in her ears.

Due to being malnourished, Morgana had complications after being spayed.  She is healing nicely and getting her Boxer bounce back.

Morgana is learning to walk outside, even though she still gets frightened.  She is crate trained, can sit and is almost house trained.  Hopefully, Morgana will soon be healthy enough to come and play at your house.  If you have lots of love and patience to share, please consider making Morgana a Fur-ever member of your family. She would love to be adopted by a family with a friendly, playful dog to keep her company.

Adoption Status: Adopted 7/23/08

Posted to website:  7/18/08   Dog Number:  F08-112

Location:  Angie is contact

Comments from foster home:

Penny was turned over to Florida Boxer Rescue from another rescue group who picked her up from Miami-Dade Animal Services just before she was scheduled to be euthanized. She was dumped at the shelter with a severe case of demodex mange (see photo). Penny had been kept outside by her "human" in a metal dog run on a hard concrete floor - a completely inappropriate environment for a social breed like the Boxer. She developed demodex mange that obviously went untreated. Thanks to Underdog Rescue, Penny was saved from being needlessly killed and she now has a chance at a good life.

Although Penny suffers from a severe case of demodex mange, this type of mange is not contagious to humans or other dogs. It is typically passed from mother to puppies, and if left untreated, becomes a horrible affliction, subjecting the  Boxer to skin infections, bleeding, itching, and severe hair loss (this poor pup is almost completely bald). In addition to demodex mange, Penny was severely malnourished, weighing only 25 pounds when pulled from the shelter. She has also been ill with an internal infection.  She is slowly gaining weight but it appears she will be a tiny little girl once full grown.

Poor Penny just wants to be loved and cared for despite her condition. She loves to watch TV and snuggle! Penny gets along with other dogs, as well as cats, and absolutely loves children! With proper nutrition, good vet care, and medication, Penny will make a full recovery and be available for adoption soon.

Buster Brown is your typical happy-go-lucky Boxer boy and is full of wiggles.  He is 4 1/2 years old, so he is past any crazy puppyhood issues and is very well behaved in the house.  He was a perfect gentleman in the car.  He has not tried to get up on the furniture and does not chew things. He is in great shape and has plenty of energy to play, go for walks/jogs and have fun.  He loves to play with his ball!!

Buster is housebroken and knows basic obedience commands of "sit," "down," "come" and "shake;" he also walks nicely on a leash.  He gets along well with the resident Boxers (male & female) and the cats too.

UPDATE 8/27/08:

Atlas here! I've been in my foster home for a week now and I'm lovin' every minute. I have a foster sister, Gina, who was a little skittish about letting me share her space, but now we're friends. I'm a really good boy, and everyone tells me I'm so handsome. I'm a check Boxer, and they all ooh and aah over my brindle fur 'cuz they say it looks like a tiger. Cool! I'm a big fella, so I'm real careful that I don't knock things, or people, over. I get along great with foster mom's twelve year old grandson, and I'm pretty sure I'll like other kids too. I know not to jump on the couch and I know where you're supposed to do your 'business.' I really love being pet and hugged, so much that sometimes I'll sigh and moan a little just to show you how much I love you...and to get a few more hugs. Mom takes me and Gina for car rides every day. I love riding with my face to the wind and my natural Boxer ears flappin' away. We get lots of smiles from people we pass. Mom says I walk well on a leash, but sometimes I get excited and pull, so we're working on that. I know how to sit and stay and give you my paw....and probably more that mom hasn't figured out yet. She has figured out that I'm the most lovable guy around! If you meet me, you'll love me. Everyone does!

Comments from foster home:

Hi, Buster here...I am happy to be with Florida Boxer Rescue 'cuz I know they will teach me how to be a good boy and get along with others.  I'm just a kid (a very BIG kid) and I need some nice human to show me the ropes so I know how to act.  I got along okay with my big Rottie mix sister ('cause she wouldn't take no guff), but I was never sure what to do with my little ShiTzu sister.  I guess I was a little hard on her; I just didn't know how to behave around her.  And  kitties...well aren't you supposed to chase them when they run?  I wasn't gonna hurt 'em!  I'd really like a home where I can learn and please all my family members.  Please, can't I come live with you?  I'll be as good a boy as I can...I promise!

UPDATE 7/1/08:

Hey Ya...It's Buster here.  I've been in my foster home for two weeks now. I have one word to say...WOW!!  I have had a BIG week.  Mama J, (that's my foster mom), has me on the move.  When she picked me up from the vet's, I had no idea how to drive in a car.  It took me about 10 minutes and I figured it out.  Now we go for a drive every night.  I had my first vist to Petco and I was such a good boy that she said we could come back and pick out some more toys this weekend.  My humans didn't teach me how to play with toys but I'm learning.  I started my training last week on the leash and boy do we walk.  We go into town and listen to all different kinds of live music.  I get to see people of all ages and fur friends too...I've got to keep social!!!  Everyone tells me what a hansome boy and how well behaved I am.  Mama J tells me not to let it go to my head and I think she's right.  I have learned "down," "stay," "off" and "back" so far.  I even learned not to cross the street until I sit at the curb and I'm told to cross it.  Mama J says I have potential...not sure what that means but it sure does sound good.  I love to supervise in the kitchen but I stay at a safe distance.  I still don't like when she leaves but I'm learning that she always comes back for me.  I give her lots of kisses and hugs.  Well, it's time for us to go for a ride and meet new fur buddies and humans...gotta run but I will keep it touch!!

UPDATE 8/29/08:

Hiya...it's Buster again.  I had my first beach day and boy was it great.  I have never been to the beach and played in the sand and ocean before.  I loved running in the water and rolling in the sand but I think I need a little bit more work on my swimming...I'll get there!  I found that I am not much into toys but I did find one that I love to play with so Mama J and I run, jump and fetch with it in the backyard and park.  I love to run and jump in the air after my toy...but you better watch out because sometimes I don't put the brakes on quick enough and I might run into you.  I don't mean too but I just don't realize how strong and fast I am.  Mama J says I am a very BIG boy that is just a BIG kid.  I am finally starting to fill out my very tall and slim body.  I still don't like to be left alone and I have to be crated when no one is home but it can only be for short periods at a time.  It really helps me to stay a little bit calmer when I get long walks in the morning, at lunch and evening before I am left home alone.  I am really working hard to learn to be okay with being home alone without humans.  I love to listen to music and watch TV especially at night because I finally get the couch to myself.  But if I'm told to get off I do.  I am a great hunter of lizards, squirrels, birds and cats.  Mama J says I look like a kangaroo the way I bounce after the lizards.  I found that I am a little bit hesitant with small humans and I can't be around small dogs.  I just love to give lots of wags and kisses to humans.  Well, it's time for play and a long walk.  Talk to you soon!

Comments from foster home:

Hi,  my name is Jade and I am as pretty as the jewel that I was named for.  I came to FLBR right from my birth, they took in my mama when she was pregnant.  When I was 3 days old my foster mommy did puppy exercises with me and my 6 other siblings to make sure I was strong and healthy.  Like my other siblings I am a very happy, loving pup. I need a permanent home that will care for me in a proper manner.

I am a typical Boxer girl who loves to play with toys, kids or other dogs and I have lots of energy.  I also love to snuggle and give Boxer kisses.  I am working on potty training and I definitely need to learn the art of leash walking.

Please bring me into your home and help make me the wonderful dog that my foster mom intended me to be.  I will give you nothing but unconditional love for the rest of my life.

Love,

 Jade

Comments from foster home:

"Hello" in sign language!!!!  I was turned into FBR by my previous human because I contracted heartworms and he did not want to pay for the treatment. My foster mother has named me Mozart or Mo, for short.  She named me after the famous composer Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, whom  was also deaf.  I am a white boxer, complete with tail!!!  I love my tail as it lets you know when I am "HAPPY!" I am 5 years old.  I am a very well behaved boy.  I LOVE my kennel and do not bark when in it.  I love to go for walks and DO NOT pull on the leash.  I am house trained.  I get along very well with other dogs, cats and also birds. However, I HATE tires, bicycles, cars and motorcycles.  My original human placed me in grave danger daily as I was allowed to run free (THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT HIT BY A CAR - I CANNOT HEAR THEM COMING!!!).  Because of this previous learned behavior, I do chase anything with wheels on it. Maybe even your vacuum sweeper or lawn mover ??  I will need some serious training for this issue and also would benefit from learning sign language. I would be most comfortable playing with you in a fenced yard and living in a home that has the time and willingness to work with me.  I only know several basic commands in sign language but I am willing to learn; I am a very SMART BOY !!  I have not been to see a vet since I was a puppy.  Florida Boxer Rescue is making sure that I can become a healthy Boxer boy again. I had my first vet appointment today. I am heartworm positive and FBR wants to get me well again  before I can be adopted out to my fur-ever home.  Please consider me and give me a chance like Florida Boxer Rescue did.......

 ~MOZART

UPDATE 7/5/08:

Mozart is settling in to his foster home.  He is learning sign language along with his non-hearing foster brother.  Mozart is a very loving, calm boy who is just looking for a safe, cozy place to be loved and cherished.  He has been neutered and will start his heartworm treatment soon.  He should be ready to meet his new family sometime in late August.  Mozart has a lot of love to give; please give him a chance to shine.

UPDATE 8/27/08:

It has been a rough road for Mozart.  He has now been neutered and is up to date on shots and has been treated for heartworms.  He will need to be retested for heartworms at the end of January 2009.  He is now on heartworm prevention and flea prevention.  He needs to be kept quiet as he still coughs when he gets excited or overheated.  He is a calm, well behaved boy.  He loves to go for short walks and does not pull on the leash.  Mozart loves his kennel and is house-trained.  Mozart is looking for his fur-ever home and is willing to do anything to please you.

Comments from foster home:

Hi my name is ZAZI!  I am a beautiful 15 month old girl.  My former human was pregnant and had a boyfriend who didn't like dogs and she also said I didn't play nicely with her small dogs so she gave me to a groomer who contacted FBR. My foster home reports that I am such a little lover.  I will kiss you all over - on your hands, your face, your feet - I'll even kiss your clothes!  I am just so happy to have attention.  Whenever I get attention my whole body wiggles - from nose to tail (ummmm - nose to nub). My whole body wags!  I love my foster brother Scooby.  We like to run around and play.  Then when we get tired we lay down and give each other kisses.  I came from a home with two children and I was reportedly good with them.  I like to be wherever my foster Mom is.  Oh- by the way, my fur is super soft too so you'll want to spend a lot of time petting me.  Gotta go now, it's time to play!

Jessie and her brother Stretch were former breeding dogs and were surrendered to FBR recently. Jessie is a petite, timid girl.  At the vet's office she was very sweet and gave lots of kisses. She will be looking for a responsible fur-ever family who will give her lots of love after she is spayed and cleared for adoption.

We were able to pull Nakita out of Hernando County Animal Services after she was dumped there by her humans.

She appears to be a sweet girl who just wants to be loved.

Words from Nakita : I want a forever home and to be loved

and secure.  Will you adopt me, please?

UPDATE 6/16/08:

We have been fostering Nakita for 2 weeks now and she is a wonderful and sweet Boxer. She has been wonderful with our 4 year old son and is protective over him. Nakita is a little jealous over our new foster Boxer but is not aggressive (she just pushes him out of the way)! She loves to go with you wherever you go and does listen to most basic commands. She walks well on a leash and is fully housetrained! It has taken her a bit to warm up but is now ready to play with us and she had a lot of fun with a battery operated dog that my son had let her play with! She also loves to snuggle and believe it or not does not hog the bed!

Hello! I'm Pocahantas! Thanks for stopping to read about me!

I was abandoned by my previous humans after they made money by breeding me. I am happy and receiving lots of love and attention from my foster family. I have a foster brother that keeps me running and playing, but I hide from him when I've had too much of him...haha.

When I arrived in Orlando, I was very scared. You would never know that now. Rocky, my foster brother, and I bounce through the backyard and play fetch a lot.

I can't wait until I have a home of my own and a family to love me and never let me go!!

Wags and licks,

Comments from foster home:

It's obvious how Tiger got his name; he has a beautiful light brindle coat resembling a "big cat." When I met him at the vet he was your typical Boxer greeting everyone with wiggles & kisses.  He is new to FBR and needs to have some medical issues addressed.  Once we get to know him better, we'll post an update.

Comments from foster home:

Theo & Tiger are father & son. Their human is ill and turned them over to FBR for placement. Theo is smaller then Tiger but just as happy and wiggly.  Theo does not look like your typical "senior" Boxer as he doesn't seem to have many gray hairs. He will be unavailable until a few medical issues have been taken care of.  We'll post an update once they are settled in their foster home and we know more about them.

Comments from foster home:

Gandalf is a very loveable Boxer that wants love all of the time! He has adjusted to his new name and listens very well to basic commands. He is a little skittish at raised voices and loud noises but in just two days he has made himself right at home. He needs to be up to date on shots etc...because he was found as stray and came to us with an unknown history. Gandalf is getting along great with our four year old human and there have been no incidents with our other foster dog, Nakita.

Comments from foster home: In an act of cowardice, Princess Roxy's human dumped her down the "drop box" at a shelter on Saturday night where she was discovered by employees the following day. Her paperwork accompanied her; she was born on New Year's Eve 2001. Obviously Princess Roxy seems scared right now. She is also underweight and needs to be brought up on vaccines, etc...She rides well in the car and loves kids and other dogs. She does not enjoy the company of cats or birds. Because of lack of foster space, she is in boarding right now and would SURELY benefit from being in a loving foster home until she can be adopted. If you can help, please let us know.

As with Scamp her brother, Dora was turned over to FBR when their family moved into a home they felt was too small.  Because these two dogs have always been together we would truly love to place them in a home as such.  Both dogs are other dog and cat friendly, but unknown about children since the home they were in did not have any.

Please find it in your heart to adopt this sister and brother team; they will keep you and each other company and bring you DOUBLE the amount of joy and companionship!!

Comments from foster home:

Hi, my name is Athena and if you are looking for a sweet, loving & protective girl, then I am for you!  My family surrendered me to FBR because they said I was too rough with the baby. My foster parents think I am great with their five year old. I relate well with my foster bro (Dexter) but I don't like to share my food or bones. I'd love to have a forever home where I am the sole recipient of all your love and attention! I really want a forever family that is ready to love me. I get very excited to chase balls but I have no clue what to do with them once they stop bouncing. My foster mom says I
listen really well and I always come when called. She likes that I am alert. You have to check out my Boxer
wiggle. When I get excited to be with my foster parents my whole backside wiggles with my tail. My coat is very beautiful and dark - mom or dad must have been a brindle Boxer. So to sum things
up ... I am just a perfect little girl ready to wiggle into your life and give you LOTS of love and attention.

Comments from foster home:

Sox has spent most of his life in a highly inappropriate setting and was just so sweet when I picked him up. He has adjusted to his foster home well and has had a crash course in Potty Training 101 but is doing great in that department! Sox is getting along well with the resident female Boxer. He is also good around the skinkids in the foster home. Unfortunately due to his previous human's neglect, Sox will have to go through uncomfortable heartworm treatment.  Please check back for future updates on Sox. He is a real beauty.

UPDATE 6/18/08:

Hello.  My name is Sox and I love living in my foster home. I really like affection, and going for walks.  Don't get upset if I want to join you on your comfy bed, or sofa.  I'll get down if you tell me to, but if you're not looking I might sneak back later! I am pretty good about going potty outside if you give me a regular schedule, but occasionally I might mark my territory inside so just take me out more often.  I am still going through some regular treatments for heartworm, but I am doing better than expected.  There is a little Boxer girl who lives with us now and we get along great.  We usually sleep together.  My foster family thinks that is cute.  My foster family has fallen in love with me because I am such a good boy. I am also pretty big, but that is a good thing.  I like to protect my foster family with a healthy bark now and then if I hear something they don't. Please make sure you can give me a lot of love and attention BEFORE you apply to adopt me, because I will be a great addition to your family.

Comments from foster home:

Jake had only lived in his most current home for a year, having been given away by his previous human. It's been reported that his previous home was neglectful in some respects. Jake likes most other dogs, but he has not been around small dogs. He has had some obedience training, but continues to pull on a leash. He will go into a crate but is not really crate trained. Jake is loving and needs someone to love and care for him. He needs a foster home - can you help?

Comments from foster home: Unfortunately Buddy has not known the stability of being with one family and has been in a few different homes in his life thus far. He knows tons of commands and is a sweet dog! He gets along with most dogs and seems to really like kids. He will need some practice walking on a lead, but most importantly Buddy needs and deserves to be adopted by someone he can depend on.

Patty and her brother Willy were surrendered by their human who is going through a divorce. Patty and Willy were obviously well loved.  They are true 'gems' as they are well-behaved, potty-trained, and walk very well on a leash.

Patty seems to be the leader of the two at this point.  She will make sure she knows her brother is close by.  She is truly a sweetheart who will capture YOUR heart.

Comments from foster home:

Kangee is a very sweet boy who is housebroken and

crate trained.  His family turned him over to FBR due to a new baby, child's allergies, etc...

Kangee is looking for a home where he will be viewed as part of the family. His favorite thing is playing with kids and balls and he loves getting his tummy rubbed and taking a dip in the kiddie pool.

He still has to be fully vetted and would love a fur-ever home soon afterwards.

Kangee listens well although he needs some help with manners.

Comments from foster home:

Hi, my name is Louie II.  My foster family found me wandering and took me in.  After unsuccessful attempts to find my humans, I was turned over to FBR. My foster family is donating the cost of my heartworm treatment and getting some weight on me.  Then I'll be neutered and ready to go to a responsible home.  I'm a young guy who is learning some manners.  I like to pounce on my foster siblings but they don't like that.  I'm also learning to be around kitties without trying to chase them.  I have kids to play with me and that's always fun.  Keep an eye on me; I should be ready to go to my forever home in a month or two.  Can't wait to meet you!

UPDATE 5/6/08:

Louie no longer chases the cats or jumps on his housemates. He has calmed down a lot; I think he was just not used to being in a real home setting or spending time around other animals, but now he fits in well. He loves to play with the basketball and he loves his crate. When I was cleaning the other day and moving it around, he got in it when I was sliding it across the floor and looked up at me as if to say "Please don't move my house!"  LOL. We are also teaching him to "sit" and "stay."

UPDATE 5/27/08:

My friend had a 9 month old baby over several times last week and Louie was wonderful with her.  I feel he will do well in any home suited for this breed. Louie II is good with any kind of animal. I have small furry animals and cats and dogs. He is great with all of them. He just wants to be loved. I am not seeing anymore tapeworms in his feces and he is gaining more of an appetite now, although he does vomit occasionally (I think that is sometimes due to him scarfing down his food too fast at times). Louie is doing well and his incision is healing nicely!

Our little Venus is much the same, having come from the living situation she did, it is amazing she still has that light in her eyes and spring in her step.  She just loves all the people she meets and the dogs too.  Her small size doesn't stop her from playing with the "Big Boys."  Venus is not jut a gem in the night sky but she is a now a real gem here on Earth.

Ace was going to be his name since he is our first foster; however, when my skin-kids saw him, he was deemed "Buddy Boy." Buddy was found on the streets of South Tampa.  He was very skinny when we got him, but is now growing like a weed.  He is very healthy, has a beautiful soft and shiny coat.  He is all legs and is ALL puppy. He loves playing with my fur-kids, Purdy Girl and Dixie and just can't quite figure out what the moo-kids are in our pasture.  We are working on potty training which is going well.  He has no problem with the kennel and has been known to go lie in the kennel with the door open.  However, curled up next to us or one of his fur-sisters is his idea of a wonderful life.  Buddy Boy is looking for a fur-ever home with lots of love and attention.

Comments from foster home:

Sandie was surrendered to FBR because her family had many animals in the home and Sandie did not like the livestock on the property. She may not be fond of goats and horses, etc... but she loves other dogs and is as sweet as pie. She was really drawn to children at the vet's office. More info to come as we get to know her better. Sandie needs a foster home - can you help?!

My name is Cha Cha. I was taken to Citrus County Animal Services by my family because they

were moving and not taking me with them. It's quite obvious by the condition of my nipples, that they had no problem breeding me over and over again to make money before abandoning me at a shelter where I could have easily been put to sleep due to overcrowding.

I've been told I'm gorgeous, but all I really want is to be someone's cherished pet Boxer. I now have a foster home. More info to come soon.

Comments from foster home:  "Woof!" That’s "hi" in Brady talk! I am a very handsome white

bundle of energy! Life started out kind of rough - I was tied to a tree and basically forgotten about. A kind lady rescued me, but found out I had a serious eye condition that required surgery which she couldn’t afford and so I was surrendered to FBR. The surgery was a great success and now I can see the

world! And what a wonderful world it is!

As I mentioned before, I am a BUNDLE OF ENERGY. I have to have someone to play with or I get into trouble. I love to

play in the water hose; I pounce on the water - it sure is fun! My foster family says I need some obedience training too

(whatever that is). I know basic commands, but really am just a big ol’ goofy guy wanting to have a good time. . .

all the time!!!!   I do crate well, but will bark for a little while when you leave me.

If you are looking for a high energy bundle of love I am  your guy!!!  I was put on this earth to just enjoy every

day to its fullest and am looking forward to spending my life with you and your other four legged companion!

Let’s get the ball rolling on our lives together and apply to adopt me!!

Comments from foster home:

Stretch and his sister Jessie were used as breeding dogs and were surrendered to FBR when they were no longer wanted.  Stretch is a very active, handsome boy. He is full of wiggles and kisses and may need some training as he was previously kept in an inappropriate environment.  Stretch will be neutered soon and will then need a loving and responsible forever family to call his own.

UPDATE 5/25/08:

Stretch is very smart and a great guy. He learns quickly and tries so hard to please you. He's still

pretty thin, but still a very handsome boy. He's learned the commands: "sit," "down," "come," "stay," "wait," "back" and

is good on the leash. He's done fairly well with the boundaries we've laid down. Stretch loves to ride

in the car, and will play fetch for a short time with a plush, squeaky toy. He's house trained and

will ring a bell to tell you he wants to go out! Awesome, eh?  He

has had no accidents at our house.

Stretch isn't as interested in being a friend to another dog as he mainly wants human contact. I recommend

he go to a forever home that will continue his training and is dog savvy.

A home without small children is best as he is sensitive about his ears being touched and is so excitable that

he may accidentally hurt a child while trying to showering him or her with love.

UPDATE 6/18/08:

Stretch has got to be one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet. His favorite thing to do is

sit with you and be petted for hours. He's a  complete lover and cuddler! His big, beautiful,

He's found his voice a bit, but he still is a very quiet dog. But he'll give you a small, half bark

when someone knocks on the door. We've learned he'll talk a little if you are showing another

dog some affection. There's isn't a person who can resist laughing when they hear his little

talking, it is SO cute! We swear he says "momma!" He's enjoying laying around with his foster sister

and playing with her now and then. He's shown no interest in the birds he is living with, or

the cats he has been around. And you couldn't ask for a better dog at the vet! This guy is a

total gem!
