Matilda

Original comments: I was picked up at the shelter by a volunteer and my really nice foster mom and her friend, Randy. Randy even carried me up the stairs to my new place like I was a princess..........I liked that! Anyway, my foster mom has 2 cats and after lots of sniffing and them trying to scare me by hissing and puffing up like Halloween cats, they finally gave up. One even got on the couch and took a nap with me. I'm really skinny right now because I have heartworms, but the nice doctor told me I would get to be about 60 pounds when I am all healthy again. And I will be! I'm so happy now and with my foster mom feeding me baked chicken and Buffalo meat along with my kibble, and getting me to the vet for my heartworm treatments, I will be a beautiful, healthy, happy Boxer really soon. Oh, and I heard my foster mom on the phone today telling the nice volunteer that I am very, very smart and respond well to all commands she has given me so far.

Oscar

Update 9/13/09: Hello, Oscar here! I am looking for a great forever home because I am one special doggie!! I want to give kisses and get kisses back; I want to be hugged and hug back. And just for those two little things, I will give you all the love and companionship you will ever need. I am a very excited little boy with lots of energy to play and play. I will calm down once you say so though. I sit, stay, lay down and can even shake a paw!! I will even do that wiggle dance called the "Kidney Bean Dance". You won't be sorry with Oscar the Boxer :) :)

Update 8/29/09: Hello, Oscar here! Well, I'm still waiting for my new foster home, and I'm kind of tired waiting in this place. There's no action, no laps to place my head on, no one to kiss... come on people, spring me, please!

I will say I am selfish as I want to be the only dog of the house. I don't want to share myself with anyone other than my master. I want to give kisses and get kisses back; I want to be hugged and hug back. And just for those two little things, I will give you all the love and companionship you will ever need. I will even do that wiggle dance called the "Kidney Bean Dance". You won't be sorry.

Update 8/29/09 (continued): In my previous life I didn't have all that good stuff, but I just want to be a normal dog with a home and a family. Please think of me. I'm one handsome dude.
Thanks from your pal Oscar

Original comments: I was unjustly put in jail. But, thanks to Florida Boxer Rescue, I've been sprung from that place. I will be learning leash walking 101...I heard my foster aunt say 'oops' a couple of times as I almost took her lawn surfing.

Oscar rode well in the car and loves to meet people. So, come out and meet him and be his forever family.

That's all for now

Hopper

Update 5/14/09:Hi from Hopper! Hopper here - boy am I glad to be in my foster home. They have all kinds of toys that my foster fur brother shares. I have two baskets of toys to choose from and my favorite are the balls. I love to play fetch. Even though I only have three legs I can run almost as fast as my foster fur brother and I play just as hard. Mom and Dad say I have the sweetest face and I am a little cuddle bug. I love to cuddle on the couch with them. I can also get on the bed with everyone. Tyson (my fur foster) and I love to squish dad!

Note from foster parents. Hopper is a very sweet little boy. He shows no aggression over food or toys. He is putting on weight and has lots of energy. He does have a problem with a crate, but he's fine being left free in the house while we are at work. He does not tear up anything and is housebroken. He would do well in a home with another dog to play with and he loves children. For all the trauma he has been though, he is super sweet and seems to hold no grudges.

Update 4/20/09: The vet says Hopper is in pretty good shape right now. His claws were soooo long that they curled under. She did find a small lump on his back leg, but that will get checked out soon. He likes to play with his new brindle fur-brother. And he has been a good boy out of the crate when his foster parents are away.

Original comments: Our special boy Hopper has come back to FBR. He really loved us the first time around, so he asked to be rescued again, which is required by adoption contract.

Hopper enjoys being with other dogs, but doesn't like to share treats. He only has 3 legs, but that does not stop Hopper from running and playing.Hopper is quite thin right now and needs a lot of TLC. More information will be coming when his foster family gets to know him better.

Foxy

Update 9/28/09 (continued): She wiggles her nub and her body as soon as you come home to greet you, but she is not quite sure what to do next - stay in the crate or go outside. She walks well on a leash and gets along with her 3 boxer brother and sisters. Sometimes she gets a case of the "zoomies" and races in the yard with her foster brother. She loves to cuddle with you or the other boxers on the couch or on the bed. She also gives the sweetest, most delicate boxer kisses. She is putting on weight and can be picky about her treats. She is ready for her forever home; they will need to continue to teach her that she is safe now and help her re-gain her confidence.

Original comments: Foxy girl came to us from the SPCA. She is a very sweet girl that needs to gain weight. Foxy rode well in the car, gave the most delicate kisses and, as miserable as she was feeling, she could still wiggle that nub. Foxy will need a family that will have patience with her and give her the TLC she so deserves.

Lulu

Update 8/28/09: The wiggly worms were just babies and are all gone with the good heartworm treat I ate on the first of the month. I am now really healthy and ready for a permanent home. Please let me show you my Bette Davis eyes and lay on your feet and give you the sweetest kisses!

Original comments: A sweet little lady has been loving and taking good care of me the last few months as I was running the streets. When her health began to deteriorate, she had FBR come and get me. She said I had those wiggly worms inside and needed to get rid of them. I am very petite and pretty too, if I do say so myself! The doctor says I am about 2 years old and I must have been a teenage mother as I have had a litter. If you want some good wiggle butt kisses - ask for Lulu! I'm your girl!

Return

Lady

Original comments: Lady is a gorgeous white Boxer. She has one blue eye and one brown and is a "lady" indeed. She gives loads of kisses and loves to play, especially with toys that squeak. She will cuddle with you the first chance she gets. She would be best in a home with a submissive male, and she doesn't care for cats.

Return

Betsy

Original comments (continued): I live with 2 great big dogs called Danes, 4 new Rottie puppies, 2 rabbits and 3 young children and I LOVE them all! I have been a mother so many times I lost count. But not any more! The good Doc will fix me on 8/24 and I cannot wait! I am ready to love everyone and am so laid back. I can do the "wiggle-butt" thing like you've never seen before! I am so gentle and sweet that I know you will want to take me now and let me show you how precious I am. I get up and down like any youngster and never run off when unleashed. How about giving a good 'ol gal a chance to show you what I got? You won't be disappointed, I promise!

Chelsea

Update 8/2/09: Hey everyone!!! I am here to tell you how I have been doing...o.k. where do I start? I had my teeth cleaned by the nice lady at the vets office. They are so pretty now. I love to bite and play with my football, and the sprinkler. I will also chase the flashlight. OH yea... It's my birthday and I am 9 years young. Running and playing helps me keeps my petite girlish figure. If you are looking for a playful, small, and loving Boxer, I'm your girl.

Foster Mom here, so much to say about such a little girl. Chelsea has made us laugh at so many things she does. She will talk back when playing, and always has time to give you these little baby kisses. She does like to be the boss when it comes to the other animals, but also knows where her boundaries are. We did learn that she is allergic to peanut butter, so no hiding any medicine in that! She does not react anymore to storms or fireworks. She will lift her head, but then go right back to whatever she was doing. She does not act like a 9 year old, more like three. She will be such a wonderful addition to her new home.

Update 7/5/09:Hi everyone out there. My name is Chelsea. I wanted you all to know that I have a great foster home and they say that I am a kid at heart. I have to agree, I love to run and play, love the water, and my toys. I have a little fur brother here and a "purring" fur sister, foster Mom calls her a "cat". It doesn't matter to me, they are both fun. I am learning alot here, they are teaching me it is ok when it rains to hear what you call thunder, and that the fireworks are pretty, not something to be afraid of. My foster Mom gives me a massage when the storms come, and I usually fall asleep. I also have learned that while I am eating, it is ok if my brother or sister walk by, they don't want my food, they have their own. I can't wait to get to my fur-ever home and show you all what a good little girl I am.

Foster Mom here...I wanted to add to what Chelsea had to tell you. If you want to laugh, just play with little girl for a bit. She is a talker, she talks when she plays with her toys and with you. Loves to go with you in the car but also she is fine to stay home. She does not have to be crated but will go in and lay down until you get home. We went to the vet and everything checks out great, she is very healthy.

Original comments : Chelsea was born the runt of the litter in August 2000, to Brutus Al Thor and Baby Face Massey. Her high energy and her demand to be the center of attention makes up for her small size, and we believe that she feels she is not a dog but one of the kids. We have enjoyed over 8 years of unconditional love and her silly ways, and while not all her traits are good, we adore her all the same. She feels that a bed or coach is the only place for her to sleep and if those are not an option, any blanket or pillow left on the floor will do just fine. She adores my 19 year old and will do any thing to sit in her lap or climb in bed with her. She travels well in a car, usually falling asleep in the front seat, and she enjoys playing in the water hose and a sprinkler can be hours of entertainment.

Unfortunatley we have to move and can not take her with us, the thought of this breaks our hearts and we are hoping to find someone that will love her as much as we do. Although Chelsea has been raised around a cat and another dog, she is not afraid to let them know she is the dominate dog. We hope to find Chelsea a home were she is the only pet. She thrives on attention and as she has aged she's become sensative to stressful situations and gets very nervous during thunderstorms. She is a friend to everyone that visits and will do anything to get in the middle of a crowd of people. While we understand that 8 seems old, you would never tell by looking at her and watching her play.

Zack

Original comments: Not much is known about Zack and his brother Cody other than they were neglected and are VERY attached to one another. It would be wonderful to have them adopted together. Please check back soon for an update.

Secret

Original comments: Secret is a sweet girl who is well behaved, walks well on a gentle lead, knows her 'sits' and 'stays' and is very smart. She is also protective of children and very respectful of them. If placed with an older, submissive male, she will be all right, but Secret would be happiest by herself getting all the attention and giving back lots of boxer kisses.

Bear

10/5/09: Bear is an energetic young Boxer who has not had the benefit of training, but he's a smart boy and with the love and patience of an experienced Boxer home it should not take him long to reach his potential. Bear will need a fenced yard for supervised play and to run crazy eights. Check back for more information once Bear settles into his foster home.

Gracie

Original comments: Gracie is a sweetheart. Looking for love in all the right places. Gracie loves to play catch. She and her foster dad played for over an hour. Gracie wouldn't give up, so she lay down and nudged the ball with her nose. More to come from her foster home once she settles in more.

10/6/09: Oh, I saw some kitties at the vet and they swatted at me. Then I was REALLY interested in them. So, for now, I think a non-kitty home is a good idea. So, keep an eye out for future updates from me, Doobie. By the way, ask foster mama why she named me that. It's pretty funny! TTYL!

Zeke

Update 10/5/09: This little guy is looking for a forever home.

I must have a canine companion to help me along since I am deaf. I'm deaf, but not dumb; I know hand signals for sit, stay, and come. I love kids, I'm okay with cats, and I am the best snuggler you will ever meet. Patience and understanding are a must since I am a special guy. I follow my fur buddy at my foster home every where she goes since she can hear for the both of us.

Original comments: Hi there, my name is Zeke. Florida Boxer Rescue rescued me when my owners thought I was really sick and turned me into the Humane Society. Now these FBR volunteers are good people who ask all kinds of questions before you can adopt me. Well, I'm gonna ask you some questions...We'll call them Zeke the mighty warrior questions. I am loving and quick as a lighting rod. I love to play and box. Can you handle me giving you lots of kisses and being glued to your side. Maybe an accident or two til I get to know my new digs. Oh, and the biggest and most important question of all - are you willing to learn sign language with me and be patient with me as I am deaf. I would probably do best with another dog in the home to learn from. I can't wait to meet new friends. ~Zeke~

Clyde

Original comments (continued): I went on two car rides with 2 nice ladies that told me today was my lucky day because now I'm an FBR dog. I'm getting my vaccines brought up to date and then I'm getting neutered. The problem is, no one has a foster home for me yet :( I lived with other dogs before, but they were mean to me. I also lived with a cat and she was nice to me so I let her eat right out of my food bowl! I've never lived with any skin-kids. I ride nice in the car, I was a good boy when they brought me to the vet, and no one has heard me bark yet. Look at my face--I'm adorable! Can I please come live with you????

Return

Pepsi

Update 7/7/09 (continued): So when I come to live at your house, will you run fast with me?? And play with me?? And kiss me when I kiss you?? I always keep my tongue ready for kissing.

Original comments: Pepsi is so happy to be in his new foster home. They have a fur sister for him to play with and a big pool to swim in. Oh, and skin kids too. He really loves them.

As soon as Pepsi is neutered, he will be ready for his fur-ever home. Then he can play all day like the young pup that he is.

Coco
Update 9/17/09:I like to play with Bettis in the back yard and I feel like a puppy again. I am crated during the day; however, just a couple of nights ago, Mom and Dad felt that I was such a good girl that they put down a comforter next to Bettis' pillow in the bedroom and I now sleep through the night there. I am so glad they trust me. We need to work a little bit on walking on a leash. I don't pull, but I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing so I start then stop, start then stop... I just know I will get this with some more practice. I do know the words sit, outside, walk, No, and "git" when mom catches me in the kitchen near the trash (can't blame a girl for trying). I just love to kiss anything and everything, but I do not slobber and my tail never stops wagging. My life
is so good right now. That's all for now. Will check in again soon.

Original comments: There will be more to come on Coco once she gets into her new foster home and is evaluated.

Return

Odie

Original comments: I picked up Odie this afternoon. He rides wonderfully in the car and is all puppy. He wanted to play with the other puppy at the vet with his nub going a mile a minute. Odie loves all children, including young ones. Odie needs to be neutered and see what is causing his skin allergies.

More to come from his foster home, once he gets in one.

Return

Sawyer

Update 8/20/09 (continued): Sawyer has a much longer body and face than the "typical boxer" but he has the sweetest personality and loves to give kisses. His ideal home would have a fenced in backyard and another large dog to play with and help burn off his energy.

Original comments: Hi, I'm Sawyer, I was rescued from the shelter by Florida Boxer Rescue. I am a very sweet and loving boxer boy. I have a foster mommy and daddy who I have been showering with wiggles and kisses since they rescued me. I also have a foster boxer brother and sister, who I have been giving kisses to as well. I do need to put on a few pounds, but my foster parents are working on that. I am otherwise a healthy happy boxer and ready for my forever home. I love people and kids, and I am getting along well with the boxers in my foster home. I do need to go to a home with no cats or small animals. I am young and sweet and soooo loving, please put in an application with my name on it. More to come as Sawyer settles into his foster home.

Chewy
Update 8/4/09 (continued):When told no, he will not jump on the bed, yet many mornings I discover him in bed with me. He loves to be close and to sit in your lap. He misses Sport and needs a playmate, hopefully, a school age boy or a man who likes to play. He is funny and has gotten me laughing many a time.

Original comments: Chewy's owner isn't well and can no longer care for him and his brother (and littermate) Sport.

Dude

Update 9/6/09: Helloooo everyone, Dude here. I have given myself a super hero name...you may call me "Super Flash" on account of I am two super heros in one. I have the quickness of Flash and the wicked cool strength of Superman. I am so fast my foster family can only get pictures of me when I am sleepin'. They think its funny cuz I run and play, run and play, then lay down anywhere and go to sleep. My foster Dad's feet are my favorite place to snuggle.

The puppy doctor said my eyes are doing really good and I am growing big and strong, and that you out there can come look at me cuz I can be adopted! I am told I am very smart. I sit before I get my meals, I am learning to go potty outside, and I know that I can only chew on my toys, shoes are not mine.

Update 8/19/09: Yo, yous guys out there, lookin at my profile. I am "The" player. Just ask my foster family, I play till I fall down, and sleep where ever I can. I'll catch you up to speed on me. My name is Dude, and I am 6 weeks old. Foster Mom says I can be adopted when I am 8 weeks old. I am the only one that lived in my litter. My eyes are my challenge, but it is getting better. They are very cloudy. My left eye is almost fully cleared now and my right eye is slowly clearing too. This doesn't stop me one bit, I can run and play with the best of them.

Here is what I like, ummm....usually anything I can sink my baby teeth into right now, but mostly my toys. I have a little baby that I love to wrestle, sleep with, and generally just shake the stuffing out of. She likes it, cuz when my foster Mom is here, my baby plays with me, jumping on my head, grabbing my legs. Also, I love other dogs and cats. I know I'm gonna love my new fur-ever home...Is it yours?

Update 8/14/09: Lil' Dude is now 5 weeks old and 4.25 pounds!! He has caught up in weight and physical growth to match any 5 week old pup. He loves his toys and eats as if it was going out of style. What a joy it has been to be blessed with this handsome, tough guy. He will now play with you, growling and barking. He will play with anything he can find. The new pictures are Lil' Dude at one month old.

Update 7/30/09: Well, our little man is 3 weeks old today. He is eating like a pig, growling at me when I tickle his belly, and his ears opened and he knows our voices. He has graduated to a bigger crate, is walking about 4 steps at a time, walks around the baby pool and burrows in the towels.

Eyes are open but still not seeing. I think he was more of a preemie than we think. Just glad we can give him a chance.

Check back for more news about little Dude.

Original comments: Dude is being hand raised and has a 24/7 nanny. He is gaining weight and has learned to growl a little when he isn't held the way he likes. This boy is not spoiled!

Here are Dude's other pictures.

Original comments: My former owners had to move from our home and I was tied in the back yard for a little while. But I am in good shape and my coat is pretty and shiny. I have to be neutered right away and then I'm ready to go!

More to come from the foster home as Twitch is further evaluated.

DaVinci
Update 8/20/09 (continued): I can stay in my crate without crying and I play with my big foster brother just fine. What? Go for ride in the car? Hurrah! In the truck? Hurray! A lizard, yeah! A frog, yeah! I sure am a puppy!

I like kids too! There are some down the street from us who like to visit with me after dinner and I sit while they pet me. Sometimes I kiss them too! I look forward to my final heartworm treatment, and then finding my forever home. I need lots of love and attention, and lots of exercise to use up all my puppy energy. I am good with kids and other dogs but not at all good with cats, except as a meal when I’m hungry. Hope you come see me soon!

Update 7/19/09: DaVinci is doing so well in his foster home that they have named him after a confederate General ....Thomas Stonewall Jackson. His response to calling him Jackson is a wag of the nub and an affectionate kiss.

Update 6/27/09: DaVinci is in his foster home.

Original comments: DaVinci was rescued from a shelter by Florida Boxer Rescue volunteers. He gave us lots of kisses and Boxer wiggles. He liked all of the people he met at the Vet's office. DaVinci's so playful that his new family should probably be Boxer savy and have older kids.Right now DaVinci needs a foster home and will be going through heartworm treatments. Fill out an application if you feel you can provide a loving heart and home to a Boxer in need.

Samantha
Update 9/1/09 (continued): I came into rescue 5/29/09 and my health has been a challenge since day one. I was tentatively diagnosed with colitis. I've gone through several different series of treatments and hopefully am on the uphill climb. Since my health has improved, I have lots more energy and delight in teasing my gruff, grumpy brother Jericho. He is so big and tough, but because I'm so cute, I can nibble on him, play tug of war and basically be a pest. We have a great time playing, growling and just being boxers. I love going for walks with him and just laying next to him.

If you are interested in being my furever home, it will take a special family that is willing to keep me on my restricted diet and, unfortunately, I LOVE to eat anything I can sink my teeth into, so that will be a challenge too.

My promise to the special person or family that decides to take on the challenge that is me... I will give you all the unconditional love you can handle, unlimited walks, kisses, nub waggins, and companionship for as long as we are together.

My tongue is ready, my nub is waggin and I'm ready for a new page in my life. Will you be the one to open this book and turn the page?

Samantha, Sam, Sammie

Abby

Update 4/16/09 (continued): I've been exploring lately and discovered lots of new things. There's a fluffy thing that Mama introduced me to. Mama said it's a kitty, but all it did was make meowy noises. Boring. I met little people and they pet me so nicely and gave me hugs and scratched my ears. I like them too. I've met other doggies and like to wrestle with them and cuddle too! One of my favorite things to do in the back yard is chase lizards! They're so much fun! I could chase lizards all day long if Mama didn't have to work.

I do have a few sores on my hind quarters still from being locked in a cage for most of my life. They are shrinking and slowly going away, which is good news. I do have some allergies right now, which Mama gives me Benadryl for. I just get really itchy. I really like being with my foster family and would really like to have a fur brother in my new home. I am crate trained and walk very nicely on the leash. Like I said, I'm a really good girl. Want to come meet me?

Original comments: Hi, my name is Abby. I'm really scared right now. I was never really treated well and you can tell because of the marks on my very skinny body. It takes me a while to come to you, even if you talk sweet. But, once I know you're not going to hurt me, I'll give you some of the sweetest and gentlest kisses you've ever received. I had to have surgery on my gums because there were growths growing over my teeth and making my muzzle swell. I also got spayed since I was under anesthesia. I also have a few areas where I might have had ring worm, but now they're just bald spots that my vet is treating with creams and tingly baths. He hopes they will shrink, but I might never have fur there in the future. I'm in boarding right now and would love to have a warm and safe place to lay my head. I'd also like to learn how to be your friend and not a puppy making machine. If you think you have room for me in your home, please contact FBR so they can arrange for me to meet you. I promise with a little TLC I will be a great friend. I'll be available mid-March.

Hope

Update 5/26/09: Hi, I’m Hope, and for being so young, I’ve had a complicated life. I was found in a grove and couldn’t stop falling down. They thought I might be sick and wanted to put me down, but the amazing people at Florida Boxer Rescue got to me in time and took me to a local animal hospital. They found out I had trauma to my mouth and throat and gave me medicines to help me get well. Other than snoring loudly, I’m doing much better. I have a few more things to work through, but my foster mom says that I’m doing well and that I’m a good girl. I like most other dogs and think cats are fun to chase, but my foster mom and the kitty don’t agree with me. I like to chase a ball or stick, but haven’t mastered bringing it back yet. I love to wrestle and my doggie foster sister, Delilah, and I play rough and run in our big back yard every day. I’m a really happy girl and I just want someone to love me and teach me to be the best dog ever. Do you have a place in your home and heart for me? If so, submit an application form so I can come home to you and my new forever home.

Original comments:Seminole County Animal Services called FBR because they had a really sick white female boxer they were going to have to put to sleep. One of our volunteers rushed to SCAS and picked up a very skinny, white, boxer girl who was having trouble breathing. She was rushed to East Orlando Animal Hospital where she was checked over. After some x-rays and draining of fluid in the back of her throat, The Great White Hope is doing better.

Hope is very skinny and heartworm positive so she will not be available to go to her forever home for quite some time. We are waiting for cytology reports to come back to see what caused the infection/sac in the back of her throat. Once Hope is resting and recovering in a foster home we'll know more about her. If you think you can foster Hope, please contact your Adoption Committee member.

Bill

Update 5/11/09 (continued): He is working on gaining some much needed weight, but it has been a challenge since he is very active here and he is a bit of a picky eater. His favorite things to do are to play with his Jack Russell brother, sit on his head on the couch, give his mom kisses, and keep his Rottweiler brother out of trouble…. Though we are pretty convinced he is the instigator a good portion of the time.

Original comments: Bill was rescued from the local shelter, from the possiblity of being put to sleep. He is a bit timid, but seems to be warming up quickly. Bill doesn't seem to mind the cats in his foster home thus far, and seems to like his foster brother, a Rottweiler puppy. Although they can't really play yet, they give each other kisses through the crate. More to come after he has been here for more then just a day! :-)

Blanco Blue
  Update 8/6/09 (continued):

I have been neutered and boy was that a great thing. It kind of hurt but my 2 fur sisters helped me right through that. Oh speaking of fur sisters, I would love to have one in my new home, but hey, I can't be too picky, right. Oh, and I love the yard here... it sure beats that crate I was in at my previous home. I just love to be a Boxer (I hear that we are the best kind of dog there is). You see, if you let me burn up some energy in the yard or a dog park or on a walk, then I am very well mannered... besides, wouldn't you have a TON of energy too if you had to sit in the chair all day without moving? I just want to be a big lover and hope to be able to do that with you. So go on, fill out that application and put my name on it... it is Blanco Blue thats B-L-A-N-C-O (see I can even spell... who would have thought). I promise to be the best friend you have been looking for, and I know you are the best friend that I have been looking for! If you have any questions please ask about me.. these FBR people would love to talk to you!

Original comments: Hello, my name is Blanco. While I am in foster care I will be learning some new things. I need to learn no trash picking, 101 no jumping, 102 no running away - I think its a game. If you are willing to work with me I will give you so much love in return to be with you forever. I know I need to learn a few things to be a good boy, but I am smart and will learn what I am supposed too.

Betty

Update 7/6/09 (continued): Mom says I put on between 8 and 10 pounds and my coat is so shiny – she calls me her pretty girl. I am so happy! We have since gotten rid of those nasty worms that were making my belly hurt and last week I got spayed. I did not like that so much, was I ever groggy when I got home. I got my stitches out today and boy do I feel great. Bettis has been very supportive during all this medical stuff. He even lets me sleep on his bed when I am feeling puny. In a few weeks I should be starting my heart worm treatment. From what I gather, I am not going to like that very much either because I so like to run and play with Bettis in the back yard. This taking it easy and hanging around stuff is really boring, so I have taken to stealing everyone’s flip flops and socks. Not very tasty so to keep things interesting I have just taken to hiding them. Mom tells me that I have gotten a lot better on the leash; however, I have not been able to do much of that since my surgery. I cannot wait to get back at it. I now sit and lie down when asked; I learned that good things happen when I do what I am asked to do. Please keep me in your hearts and minds if you are interested in adopting me because I will be healthy soon and will need somewhere to crash – hopefully forever. Bye for now. Will check in later. Betty

Update 6/3/09: Hi! My name is Betty. I'm three years old and I was rescued Memorial Day weekend from the Sebring Animal Shelter. That is when I went to live with my foster family. I have my skin parents, two skin sisters and one fur brother named Bettis. He's a three year old male boxer who was rescued too, so he understands. According to my skin parents, I currently weigh 43 pounds, have tested positive for heartworm, hook worm, and whips, and I will need to be spayed, all of which will be taken care of over the next few months. I have a long road ahead of me, but my new foster family is giving me regular meals to fatten me up and all the love I need to get through all this and be a healthy girl.

I love car rides but Mom says I'm having a hard time walking on a leash right now. What is a leash?!! We are working on this, it will just take lots of practice when I am feeling better. I love the new toys I have. My skin sisters, Bettis and I play with them often. It will be several months before I am totally healthy; however, I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Original comments: Betty seems to be fine with children and another dog in her foster home. She has to be vetted and needs to gain quite a bit of weight before she is available for adoption. More to come after we vet Betty.

Stryker
Update 8/14/09 (continued): Stryker will tell you about the drill: "Hi to everyone, I have to say food is great and I love watching my foster mom make the bowls of food. Bainey (my foster furbrother) gets to go first to his place and I wait like I'm told (wiggling a little bit), Then I go to my feeding place and sit, watch and wait on command (the waiting can be hard but watching my mom is easy, she smiles a lot) Then OH BOY she says release and, Yeah, I get to eat my yummy food. It's too bad the bowl is cleaned so quickly. Then Bainey and I go outside for a little romp in the backyard. Then I'm ready for a little nap because we have to get up early, do our training (I am working hard to learn everything I should know!) then it's time for our walk... only a couple of miles (I love to walk and I am great on a leash even if I say so myself). We then come home and cool off in the pool. Wow, I'm always ready for breakfast after all of that. See why I'm ready for nap?"

OK Stryker enough from you for now, but actually folks this guy is a gem and with a loving family can become a beloved member of any family. He is so sweet and very, very good with other dogs. Don't know about cats yet as we have none in the home. But if you are looking for a great family dog think of Stryker, the strikingly good looking boy.

Original comments: This beautiful flashy fawn boxer boy was left alone on the streets. A kind family took him in for a few days to try and find his home, but after having no luck they called FLBR. This is a typical two-year-old boxer boy. He does the kidney bean dance very well. We are working on his jump up response when someone new comes in. Stryker responds to a turned back and ignorance and then his butt hits the floor to be greeted. Stryker's name came due to his strikingly good looks. He walks excellently on a leash, he is housebroken, and disturbs nothing in the home. He does go into a crate at night or while his humans are out with no trouble. Stryker gets along with his furbrother and fursister. He is going to be neutered soon and, of course, he is heartworm positive. Please look in your heart and find a place for this very sweet boxer boy. He has learned wait and place at the front door. He has learned the sit and down commands, the stays are coming along well. Just think how smart he is that this has all been taught in a week and a half time frame. We will continue to update Stryker's progress as he goes through his treatment and daily training.

Presley

Update 8/8/09 (continued): Although Presley needs to continue his medical treatment -- He said he is ready and willing to meet his new Fur-Ever family. He will taste you with his sweet kisses! Smooch--Smooch !!

Update 7/31/09: Check out my photo (the first one on the bottom) and you can see me with my pals! I sure am growing, don't you think?

Original comments: God sent Baby Presley to the world,
He sent him with challenges,
Skin rash & Demodex, that's what he has.

His family didn't like that,
So instead of Love - they gave him back to the breeder.

Now FBR has Presley,
And his coat will shine again,
For his short tail wags and his long tongue kisses.
And his eyes do sparkle, as he waits for your love !!

Licorice

Original comments (continued): Licorice is a beautiful reverse, flashy brindle. But her smooth black coat is marred with scars from her rough former life.

She is friendly and would love to give you kisses. She needs a family who will treat her like the sweet princess that she is.

Layla

Update 6/17/09: I have blossomed in my foster home with my Boxer brother and sister. I've "retired" from boxer play with other boxers but love to give them kisses. I prefer to chew on my nylabone or a stuffed toy and lounge around. I don't pull on the leash and enjoy short walks in the current heat. I am curious about other people and animals but very polite. While my foster parents are at work, I don't need to be in a crate. I just snooze on the couch all day and then greet you at the door with my beautiful natural tail! You will always know when I am happy! I don't require any training and really just need love. Because I am a "Silver Boxer," my foster mom gives me glucosamine supplements and what a difference!

Sometimes when I am really feeling happy I can jump around a little and break into a trot in the yard! You don't need to worry about me jumping a fence; I like my feet on the ground! My foster Dad says I am very sweet and "too cute for words!" My foster Mom says I have a way of melting people's hearts when I give them "the look." (what ever that means!) I just need someone to give me a chance to see how wonderful adopting a silver boxer can be!

Original comments: I'm Layla, and yes, I do believe that Eric Clapton wrote that famous song about me because I'm so pretty and sweet. Don't let the age thing fool you, it just means that I am in the prime of my life - have figured out a few things - and I'm ready to tell you all about it. Speaking of which, I do have my natural tail so I can let you know when I am really happy, like I was today when the nice lady came to get me out of that cage! I like other dogs, riding in the car, and a bunch of other things that I will write more about later.

Love, Layla

Hercules

Original comments: Hercules is a beautiful, sweet boy. He is very malnurished and has a case of hook worms, but you would never know by his playful personality. He only wants to give kisses and play. He does need some basic obedience training as he acts a lot like a puppy. Hercules will be good with older children as he is very hyper. He will be a wonderful addition to any family willing to work on his basic skills.

Return

Ben

Original comments: Ben is a playful and loving boxer. He has a heart of gold and is very gentle. He's been with his family since he was 11 weeks old, but now they are moving and are unable take Ben. He needs an active, energetic, and nurturing home. Ben has been around small children and is gentle with them, but he would do better in a home with older kids (if any) for he can get excited easily. He has lived with another dog, a cocker spaniel, for 5 years and does very well. He has never been around any other type of animal in the home. Ben is deathly afraid of fireworks, so on the 4th of July or New Year's Eve, you will find him hiding behind a couch or under a bed.

Ben has never had any health problems. He loves to run, wrestle, jump, and eat treats. Ben has had previous training but is still quite a goofball! :) He thinks he is a lapdog, but the truth is he just wants to be close to you, give you love and hope to get some back! And there's something about Ben that makes everyone love him back!

A crate will be provided for we suspect there will be some transition time adjusting to a new home.

Return

Mugs

Original comments: Mugs is a big lovable boy that needs to find a new family to care for and love him. He is handsome and very well behaved. He is currently living with a younger foster sister that is running him around like a puppy! He has been great with his foster family's niece and nephew and loves to meet new people. Please consider this wonderful boy as the new addition to your family. He has a lot of love and joy to bring to you!

Return

T.J.

Update 5/14/09: T.J. has tested positive for heartworms so will need to undergo heartworm treatment before he is ready to go to his forever home. His foster home says he is a very smart, well-behaved boy, and he is very handsome. Please check back for new pictures and more information about T.J. as he settles in with his foster family.

Original comments:T.J. is very protective of his home and loves people. He is very energetic, loves attention, and especially loves to shower you with kisses. Once he is evaluated by the vet and in his foster home, we should know much more about him.

Diezel III

Original comments: Diezel is a beautiful young Boxer boy that was not getting any attention from his previous owner. He was friendly with everyone he met on the day he was turned over to Florida Boxer Rescue. Diezel is now waiting for a forever home that will give him the love and attention he so deserves but has not had in his short life.

Cocoa

I'll tell you something I do like though... FOOD! I'm eating very well at my new foster home and will hopefully put some weight on soon. Everyone says I'm way too skinny. Like I said before, Fender and I are having lots of fun and I'm adjusting to my new surroundings quickly. I like being really sweet to my new foster family and their attention is better than I've ever had before. From the looks of it, 2009 is going to be a great year. Bark at you later!!!

UPDATE 2/13/09

Wuff's up! This is Fender, Cocoa's foster brother. She's busy chasing lizards in the backyard, so I figured I'd update you on her progress.

First of all, Cocoa LOVES me! Even though I don't like it, she constantly kisses my face and she never leaves my side. We play, wrestle, tug our ropes, and hunt lizards every day! She's learning a whole lot including that it's best to potty outside. We've been trying to put some weight on her but she's still a little skinny, probably because we play and exercise too much. She's a little apprehensive around strange humans and dogs, but she warms up eventually. All in all, I like having her around and I guess I can say I love her too. However, I do have two complaints… sometimes she snores and she steals my bed!

Journey

Well, the lady of the house came out in the morning to go to work and saw my blood all over her driveway and me under her car. She couldn't just get in the car and go to work since I was in the way, so she called Animal Control to come get me. The wonderful people at Animal Control came and brought me to their place, took care of my injuries (lots of stitches and seven drains!). They also told me some other really nice people from Florida Boxer Rescue were going to come and take me to a special doctor to make sure my injuries are healing properly and then to a foster home where I can recuperate and be loved and safe.

I am in my foster home now and WOW. I feel so lucky to have been rescued and cared for by the nice folks at Animal Control and then to be taken to a wonderful Florida Boxer Rescue foster home...thank you with all my heart.

Everybody tells me I am a very sweet boy and they can't believe it after what I went through. I will try to be the best boy ever; please, is there someone out there that will welcome me into their home and love me forever?

Di Nozzo

Update 4/13/09: Hey everyone, wanted to let you know that I got a foster home. They got lots of stuff here to look at. That's good for me, cuz I can't hear a thing. No worries though, they are teaching me sign language. I got here on Friday evening just in time for dinner; they tell me I can use some groceries. I got some itchy skin right now but they are working on that too. I have a new fur brother, he is nice, I like him but he is kinda small. My foster Mom calls him a Chihuahua. They also have a cat, not sure what to make of that. I don't think she likes me, cuz sometimes I chase her.
*Note to self.... no cat chasing*

Oh yea, almost forgot to tell you, they got a pool, and I like it!!!

First comments:

Hello there, my name is Di Nozzo and I am a player. Me and the boys like to play rough and play rough it is. Slurp some water in the shade....

I cannot hear a sound so being with some hot foster chick would be great! I told you I was a player! When my picture gets up on the site, check me out and check that Di Nozzo guy on NCIS and see who is better looking...and a better player.

For now, me and the Doc are gonna hang out and see what is wrong with me. Stay tuned for more Di Nozzo news!!

Gabrielle
Original comments (continued): She was very comfortable with children ages 6 and 8 and even laid on the floor beside them. She has a few sores from flea infestation but is healing well. She is heartworm negative, up to date on vaccines, and was just spayed. With a touch of a finger anywhere on her body she will give the best booty wiggle! She is an angel that is ready for her own forever home!

More information to come as we get to know her better.

Ike

Update 5/31/09 (continued):Overall, his personality is very laid-back. He is not hyper or the type that bounces off the walls but he still does play. One of the funniest things he does is that he has his own internal bedtime; when it's time for him to go to bed at night, he will head to the bedroom with or without you. You will find him sound asleep and keeping your spot nice and warm. One of the most endearing things he does is in the morning. As you're getting ready for work, if you glance at him, he will look at you with his sleepy face while his nubbin of a tail is waving 'good morning' to you! It's a priceless look.

If you believe Ike will be a welcome addition to your life and you can provide him with a wonderful home, just fill out the on-line adoption application. In the meantime, we're going to find out how he likes a bath and his teeth brushed!

Update 5/20/09: What's up everyone? I thought I would get back with you and let you know how I am doing. As it turns out, I had to go see the Doctor last week because I came down with Kennel Cough. Boy, I was sneezing out and sneezing in, had a cough, and a runny nose. My foster Mom kept wiping my nose, and for that, I made sure that many times when I sneezed, I was right there to share it with her...all over her! I am still taking medicine but I am feeling so much better. My foster mom said I was "an old soul in a young boxer body" but now she tells me I am 2 again! I am starting to feel like playing again. I play stuffed toys tug-o-war with my foster boxer sisters and we have loads of fun. I don't run around much yet but I hardly know I had surgery a week ago anymore. My appetite has come back and I am working on getting real buff. I'm doing very well making friends with the crate; it's like having a space that is only mine. I am figuring out that I only go in there to eat and when my people leave. I always get to come out when I finish eating and when they get home, so it's not a bad place at all! I love to go bye-bye car -- I am calm and like to make nose-art on the back windows if you don't mind. I love to cuddle and I'm pretty sure my cheeks are very kissable! I'll be back to talk again! Here are some new pictures for you.

Original comments: Hi everybody! I'm Ike. I've spent some time in a shelter and just had surgery (neutered) this week. But life just keeps getting better and better for me because I moved to a foster home this week too! What a difference a day makes! Now I have lots of foster brothers and sisters and I'm getting to know everyone better every day. The cats lay by me, ignore me, or lay half on me, and if they're good with that, so am I. There are also two fine boxer girls that are kind of showing me the ropes around here. My foster family says that I am a very good boy! I have shown them how I go potty outside and that I know how to sit. I get some very yummy treats! And I give my foster family huge wet kisses! Right now, I'm learning crate training and I hear I'm doing great! You heard right; I have hearing. Whew, I've had a big week!

I'll chat with you again soon, but I'm pooped and need my rest now to heal and work on gaining some weight. I'm safe now.

Freddie UPDATE 8/24/08:

Florida Boxer Rescue was called in when a family was unable to catch Freddie, who was a stray, after trying for three weeks. After FBR tried for 4 days to catch him we were finally successful, but only after having to dart him to slow him down enough to put a leash on.

Since being caught Freddie has been put into a very loving home to recover in body as well as mind and spirit. Freddie has to go through treatments for demodex (a skin disease) and heartworms and then be neutered after he is healthy enough. Even after all these treatments have been completed it will take some time

to try and fix the damage that has been done to this abandoned sweetie. Check back for more info on his progress.

Gator

Gator is a very handsome flashy brindle boy who gets along with other dogs, cats, kids, and we're not sure about birds! More to come as the foster home gets to know him a little better.

Update 3/15/09: Gator is a sweet, high energy boy who's settling into his new foster home. He is house-broken and crate trained. When he's not outside running off his energy, he's a velcro dog who seems to need lots of hugs and kisses. He walks well on the leash and knows how to sit and shake. We're working on his lack of 'manners'. He's good with children but sometimes gets overzealous and jumps up on them.

Return

Nitro

This is Nitro and he is 7 years young!! He is still very active and high energy. He loves to go for runs or walks and play with his brothers. He has been to obedience school and knows basic commands, but could use some brush up lessons on his jumping manners. He does well with children, but has not been around them on a regular basis. His brother Tyson has taught him not to like cats, so homes with cats may be difficult. He is crate trained. The only bad thing he does while left unattended is to get on the couch he knows he shouldn't be on. Nitro does have skin allergies and chronic ear infections. He is on a dog food made of herring and sweet potato to help with this and periodically needs a cortisone shot or rounds of prednisone. He is very itchy, but can find 101 ways to scratch his belly. He has lived with other dogs for the past 6 years, and would not do well alone. He definitely needs another dog to keep him happy and occupied as he loves to play. He is very sweet and loving and loves to be pet and scratched.

Cinnamon

Update 4/3/09: Cinammon is a true gem. She absolutely loves people and other dogs. My Jake (who is very dominant) likes to sit at a window and look outside. Cinammon gets as close to him as she can and looks out with him, always giving him several kisses as they sit. My Brutus has taught her to "box" and chase. Although, she only plays for a short time and then isn't sure what to do (being tied to a tree for a year will do that to you). She doesn't jump on people that come over and has a laid back attitude. While she hasn't been around children, I am very certain she would be great with kids of all ages. When her skin has cleared up some, I will take her to see my 2-year-old niece. Cinny is so gentle, I anticipate no problems. She returns to the vet on April 11th to have her stitches removed from being spayed and will have her skin rechecked. Her hair is starting to sprout out all over!

Original comments: Little Cinnamon was not properly taken care of; she's underweight and is going through demodex treatment. When I picked up this little girl, she was full of wiggles and butt shaking. Cinnamon walked right up to everyone she met and wiggled and wiggled. She has a very sweet temperament, and all she wants is some love and petting. More to come from her foster home when they get to know her.

Return

Loverboy

Original comments: Loverboy was sprung from Orange County Animal Services after being picked up as a stray. He comes to FBR with a horrible skin condition. He is skinny, has very little fur, and a stinky yeast infection. All of his toes and feet are red and swollen. His tummy looks like elephant skin. But none of that stopped Loverboy from trying to play in the vet's office.

A wonderful foster family took Loverboy home to give him a lot of much needed Tender-Loving-Care. Loverboy will need special baths, medicines and diet. Soon he will gain weight and be able to play all the time. More to come as Loverboy begins to get healthy and we get to know him better.

Update 1/13/08:

Hey everybody!!! Look at the new me!

The Vet Lady says I smell sweeter and have some meat on my bones now. She says I still have skin alergies. I don't know what she meant but my Super family has been feeding me all the time. My mom even gives me warm baths and rubs my toes. This is the life! If you take me to your house, you can do that too. Then I will give you lots of love and kisses. I will even kiss your other fur buddies. Cats are fun. So, hey, give me a whistle.

Your Buddy,
Loverboy

Miss Kittie

Comments (continued): When my foster family took me in I was still pretty miserable. Can you imagine getting spayed and itching like crazy, smelling like something decaying and having to be relocated AGAIN!

Like a typical boxer, I am responding to the love, attention and good FOOD - It shouldn't be long until I can go to my forever home and cast my spell on them. I love attention, will give kisses and just want to give love and
get love.

Please consider Ms. Kittie to fill that special place in YOUR heart.

More updates too come.

Jillian Hi, my name is Jillian and I am one very lucky dog. I have been rescued from Lake County Animal Services TWICE. After spending way too long at that place, these really nice people from Florida Boxer Rescue came and rescued me. So today I was a perfect lady, sat when asked, rode in the car like a good girl and gave some pretty good little wiggles. Quite frankly, I'm a little under the weather and really thin, but I'm at a much nicer place now and they're going to help me get well and put on a little weight, although I will always keep my petite little figure.

UPDATE 10/20/08:

Jillian is fitting in really well. I still keep her away from my cats and would recommend that she has a forever home with no cats, small dogs, or a dominant dog. She is toy and food aggressive, but is fine when she eats and plays with her toys separately. She growls if another dog wants attention. Jillian really cracks us up when jumps in circles trying to get her tail. This seems to be her way of grabbing the center of attention!

Jillian loves children and is very good them. Even my skittish 4 year old grandson liked her, once she quit licking him in his face!

Jillian is crated when we're re not home, and although she doesn't go in by herself, she doesn't try to run away and she doesn't tear up her blanket. She seems to be house trained, but has had a couple of peepee accidents (probably stress related). More info and pictures to come.

UPDATE 11/8/08:

Jillian's new foster mom here... I have had Jillian for 3 weeks now and she is doing really great. She has filled out nicely and goes right into her crate when I tell her to go in her house, "Mommy has to go to work." Jillian and my Rylie are doing well together, but she doesn't spend any time with him. She sleeps on the bed with us and Rylie has his bed on the floor. We make sure they eat separately, and we haven't had any more issues.

My cats are still in their room and not liking that, but when I sit in the doorway to pet them, Jillian checks them out, but doesn't try to rush in anymore. I guess she is finally realizing these are my babies too.

Jillian is a beautiful boxer girl, wonderful with children, and would do well in a home with no other pets. Jillian is ready for her forever home!

UPDATE 12/27/08:

Jillian here. I am getting so spoiled. I have put on 15 pounds and mom says I look great. My foster mom says I no longer eat like a vacuum cleaner. (What ever that means.) I sleep in the middle of mom's bed all night long and I really like it when she covers me up with that soft blankey on cool nights.

I really love mom's grandkids, so my perfect home would have a fenced in yard and some skin kids to play with. I love running around in the back yard playing with toys. Mom says I can really run fast! I don't do well with the kitties. They run and I want to get them and that is a no no. I have learned to enjoy the company of my foster brother. He's old, so he sleeps a lot. I do give him lots of kisses when mom is loving on us together.

I am house trained and fully crate trained. Please consider me for your family. I am ready for my forever home.

Sarge Hello, I'm Sarge. I was surrendered to Boxer Rescue because the Chow in my previous home did not like me at all. He'd start fights with me and bite me all over the place. I have a lot of healing to do right now. Both physically and mentally. Luckily I have a great foster mom who loves me and kisses me and tells me how much of a good boy I am. And I am a VERY good boy.

I'm older so I'm pretty laid back. I like to play with my foster Boxer sister and her friend, but I'm content to lie on the rug in the kitchen and watch mom make dinner. I like kids and kitties too! Told you I was a good boy. I'm slowly telling mom more about me so I'll be sure she gives everyone an update soon.

UPDATE 11/26/08:

Sarge is really coming along well. He's almost a week into his meds which are helping all of his numerous bog bites. He has a back leg that gives him some pain but we are trying to figure out what is going on. The vet says to take it easy for a week... no dog walks, or rough-housing with his foster sister Nash.

He is eating well... no dog aggression, just figured out what bones are and loves them. He plays well with his foster sister and the next door neighbor dog too!!!

I'll keep ya posted as we go !!!!!

UPDATE 1/4/09:

Sarge has adjusted well to his foster home and foster sister Nash. He has been slow to form a bond with a human but is doing so now quite well. Sarge loves to be out in the yard or sitting in a big front window "watching the world go by". He does demonstrate some separation anxiety and has chewed a few things in his home. He is working very hard on this and is slowly learning to feel "safe" when his mommy is not around for a while. Apparently Sarge was never crated, or crated in the "wrong" way, as he becomes panicky when asked to go into his crate. Because of this, we are working mostly on learning to be 'safe' in the house when alone. Sarge loves to run and play with his foster sister, but does limp a bit if he overdoes it. Sarge would love a home where someone is home most of the time and where there is another dog for him to bond and play with.

Piper Piper is a very sweet "Charming" boxer. She was really scared and nervous when she first came to me, but she has settled in very quickly. Piper must have been trained before being left at a shelter. She knows "sit", and she is crate trained, potty trained, and started using the dog door 20 minutes after being in my house.

Piper is very much so a velcro dog; even though boxers by nature stick by your side, she will not let me out of her sight. We are working on this with her now. Piper also has demodex so will be in foster care for a month or two until it has cleared up.

UPDATE: 1/15/09:

Hi, Piper here! I wanted to let you know how I am doing in my foster home. My demodex is just about gone and I am getting spayed next week (yuck), and after that I should be ready for my new family. Although, foster mommy said I am so sweet she hates to give me up but knows it is what is best. I like it at her house as well, but I'm ready for the next chapter in my life. I am a very shy little girl and when you come to meet me please understand that I am afraid so I will most likely not run up and give you kisses and so forth. Once I settle into my home and feel comfortable, my true personality will shine through.. it just takes me some time. I am looking for a home that is not too chaotic with people coming and going all of the time. I would also like a home with a fur brother to play with. I love running in the yard and feel more comfortable when my foster brother and sister are with me. I know that perfect family is out there and foster mom says I can stay here with her as long as I need to....hehehe.

I am crate trained but I tend to cry at first when you leave, but I settle down after a few minutes. I am getting better with potty training. I know how to use a doggy door and I like going out in the yard to play. Sometimes I run and run and run and other times my foster sibs and I just lay in the sun. Mom doesn't let us do that for very long though. I walk well on a leash and prefer to have the other dogs with me. They keep me feeling safe. I don't really bark all that much. I don't dig or get into any trouble in or out of the house. I like to play with toys and talk to them when they talk to me. We have very interesting conversations.

So if you think you can give me a good, happy home please put in your application.

UPDATE 2/1/09:

Due to a fear of everything, especially people, Piper is now in special shy dog training classes trying to learn that people are ok and that we will not hurt her. Because of her fears she is going to have to be adopted to a family that is local to her foster home which is in Englewood, Florida. Once the right family is found, the foster home will need to bring her to the adoptive home several times, and the adoptive family is going to need to come to the foster home several times to help her become accustomed to the new family. This is going to have to be done over a week or longer. She needs to go slow and at her own pace. If forced she could retreat and become even more fearful.

It is best that Piper not go to a home with children or where there is going to be a lot of changes in her environment often. She seems to be very interested in doing some agility training. She would most likely not be able to do competitive agility, but she could gain some much needed confidence by doing some basic obedience and agility work. Piper is one of the sweetest, gentlest little girls I have had the pleasure of fostering, and her shy nature makes her that much more special. Piper is not able to make decisions on her own right now; she either looks to her foster sibling Nimah or her foster mom for direction. When confronted with a fearful situation she will retreat back to her foster mom’s side or even behind her to get away.

I know that the perfect home is out there for Piper, one that will give her the time, attention and training she needs. Once she comes out of her shell she is just amazing. If you are willing to put the time into working with Piper and understand she is not going to just jump in your lap and love on you the first time she meets you, then please put in your application for her. She is not the dog for every family, but I have full faith that she is the perfect dog for one special family and that family, once found, will be the luckiest family to get a wonderful gem of a boxer.

Callie

I can tell you several things about Callie. She is a warm and loving girl. She seems crate trained as she rode in one to the vet's office. No whining or crying. She is scared and I believe at some point in her life she was abused. She cowers, so she will need a patient and loving family. She went up to every person that came into the vet's office and just wiggled her little butt. She would love a family she can snuggle up with and children to play with. More to come from the foster home after Callie is placed.

UPDATE 1/6/09:

Hey! I am Calli and I got a foster home today! It was so nice to have other dogs to play with and a soft place to sleep. My tail can't stop wagging! I showed my foster mom that I will sit for a cookie and walk well on a leash. I am trying to be very good and have not jumped on the furniture or the bed even though my foster mom says it's ok. I was a little concerned about the crate but my foster mom showed me that it is a wonderful place with treats! Now I know it is my special place to relax and rest so I can PLAY later with everyone! I will keep you posted as I get to know my place here. My foster mom says I am really cute and my picture does not do me justice and she is going to post a new one. So check back to see my new photo! Oh....I also have to be spayed. I did have puppies in the past but my foster mom says those days are over. Talk to you again soon!

Cooper

Cooper already knows 'sit', 'shake', 'down', is leashed trained and is learning sign language.
Cooper does not mind sharing his food or toys with other dogs or kids. He loves to jump up and say hello and give big kisses... we are working on this behavior; we have him sit and then we will praise him for his good behavior.

Cooper is a great boy who can't wait to find his forever home.

Yankee- Girl

Yankee-girl is a very sweet adult Boxer. She is full of energy if you want to play but just as happy to lay beside you and keep you company. She is a beautiful flashy fawn. She is in great shape, all 63lbs. This girl knows many commands: "Sit," "Stay," "Come," "Wait," "Down" and even walks well on a leash!! She was just dropped at a shelter with no explanation! Yankee gets along great with her foster siblings - a 4 yr old male and 5 month old puppies one male and one female. She is gentle with the pups and loves to play harder with the older male. She has a torn acl and is seeing the doctor to repair it, so right now she is not available for adoption. But this girl is a true supersport. Yankee-girl loves to catch a ball and run the bases. We just can't let her go full force right now as she is on the "disabled" list but soon will be back to playing condition. She is great with kids and loves to play or lay calmly listening to them. We don't have cats so no exposure to know how she reacts to them. This wonderful girl came to us fully house-trained and crate trained. Not that we use the crate often. She has been left out with the four year old dog and did not get into any trouble. Yankee-girl is also an awesome companion in a car- just lays down or watches the world go by the windows. She also loves the pool and wades in to her waist and sits to cool herself off. We'll update everyone on her "injury reserve status" at a later date. This girl is a true example of all the great Boxer traits we all love and adore!!

Tyson II

Tyson does not do well with cats at all, and would not be a good fit in a home that has them. He is great with children, but has not been around them on a regular basis. He is very mellow and well behaved. The only time he gets hyper is when it's dinner time, as this is his favorite time of the day. He will jump up and spin in the air until he gets his bowl! Tyson needs a home where he can just lay around and relax and be loved. He is also crate trained or can be left out with a doggie door, but like his brother Nitro, he will get on the couch he knows he shouldn't be on.

Update 3/11/09

Tyson is a fabulous 6 1/2 year old boxer with a beautiful brindle coat. He is the ultimate companion and would make a great addition to any family or single person home. Tyson is super relaxed and calm, so he's perfect for anyone who has a calm Zen home environment. However, we have a 14-month-old baby boy and Tyson has adapted well to lots of noise and movement also. He is a very adaptable and grateful dog, great with other dogs, and good with kids of all ages. Tyson's personality is very sweet and tender. Although calm, Tyson can show his spunky side when meeting new dogs, people, and /or just playing around the house. He just needs a big comfy bed and lots of lovin'... oh yeah, and he loves treats, food and water! Tyson also enjoys short walks and laying around. Tyson rocks!

Tank My name is Tank and I am so sweet and loving. I am very sick right now and need to get well, gain some weight, and get a lot of love. Then I will be ready for a forever home. I lived with a three year old little girl and was fine with little kids. I have no training, but will follow you around and lay by your feet just for some attention.

Check back for more information about Tank.

UPDATE 1/22/09:

Hi, Tank here. I was told I needed to slow down and let you know how I'm doing. I'm just so excited to be inside with my fur brother and foster family. They even have something called cats. Though I'm told that when they're "boxing" at me they're not playing, but I don't get it, I'm having fun! The vet said I'm getting better, some of my fur is starting to grow back and I'm up to 51 lbs. My foster mom is teaching me something she calls manners and how to walk on a leash. I'm still learning. My foster mom thinks I have springs for paws sometimes because I'm full of so much Boxer energy and just as much love to give. I am such a good boy, I am already house trained. I have to go for now, so check back to see how I'm doing.

Boxer Kisses,
Tank

Shyla Shyla was rescued from an inappropriate environment where she was used to turn out puppies. At this time Shyla is not interested in playing with the resident male and female Boxers and ignores the cat. She prefers the human companionship and attention that has been so lacking in her life. As she begins to feel more secure and gain confidence, we expect more interactions with the other pets in the home. Shyla is crate trained and working on housetraining 101 and basic commands. As we get to know her better and she has a chance to acclimate to a normal home environment we will post an update on her progress.

UPDATE 1/15/09:

Shyla is so happy to have been rescued! She's settling in at her foster home and now enjoys playing with her foster brother, running around, wrestling and having fun as a young boxer should. She's more interested in the cat now, but does not seem to want to hurt it.
Shyla is doing well with her housetraining and is working on obedience. Her adoptive family will need to be patient with her efforts and continue to help her learn with lots of positive reinforcement. Shyla walks well on the leash and loves to go for rides in the car.
This sweet girl has responded so well to the love, attention, praise and routine of her foster home and is looking for a forever family who will continue to help her be the wonderful fun-loving boxer she was meant to be!

Summer

I have so much love to give that I just want to be the center of attention. My foster parents have a playful resident pup that wants to run around all day. I just want to be with my family. Playing is fun but I want constant companionship

Although I am 2 yrs. old, I act like an older pup. I am calm and I don't chew on anything or bounce off the walls like some young boxers. My foster mom thinks its awesome that I follow her everywhere she goes and that I love movie night. Who wouldn't love snuggling with their family and watching a movie!! I like to go for car rides and walks. I am soft and cuddly and looking for a forever home.

Sweet Bubba J Bubba got out from his yard and was hit by a car. His human surrendered him to the SPCA where we pulled him. We are waiting word from the vet as his leg is fractured and he has road rash. The day he was transported, he was in a lot of pain. Once he feels better we will get a photo. Bubba gives such sweet kisses and seems to ride well in
the car.

UPDATE 1/12/09:

I am doing really well after my surgery. I get to see Dr. Hay on Friday, Jan. 16th, and hopefully I will be released and can find my forever home. My foster brother Capone got adopted, and me and my other brother Roscoe miss him. I'll definitely let you know on Friday whether I've been released!

Your friend,
Sweet Bubba J

UPDATE 1/30/09:

Bubba here! I got wonderful news from Dr. Hay. He said I am good to go, but I have to take it easy. But...then I went to Dr. Campos to get my vaccines updated and they couldn't do it. My immune system is too low from a skin rash, so I am still unavailable. Bummer - I was looking for my forever home. But keep checking back here because I go back in three weeks to see if I can get my vaccines.

I love to play and run so be ready when I am! See ya soon.

Steve UPDATE 11/5/08:

Hi everyone. My official name is Steve, but everyone calls me Riley. It suits me 'cuz I'm fun-loving, curious, and generally excited about life! I'm still going through heartworm treatment...it's really rough, but I'm really tough, so I'll be just fine when it's over. Everyone said I was skinny and needed to put on weight, so I set my goal, ate all the good food mom gave me, and now I'm as handsome as can be! I'm told my manners are good...I "sit" and "stay," and I stay off the furniture unless there's something outside the window that I just HAVE to see better than I can see it from the floor! I always wait until I'm invited to get on the bed. Mom's 12-year-old grandson hangs around with me, and I get along great with him, although I don't care much for his guitar ;-) I sometimes see some really little humans outside, but I've never been around one and I'm frankly not sure what I'd do with one....can they play with me?? I've haven't seen a cat since I've been here, but if they're anything like a squirrel, I know I'll chase it until I catch it!
One important thing about me that I'm very proud of is that I'm the Great White Lizard Hunter. I now know all the good spots in the backyard and I check them out every time I go outside. Mom told me there are places that don't have lizards running around everywhere, but I just can't believe that. The Boxers in those places must be bored silly.

Mom says I gotta quit yapping now, so I'll catch you later.

Riley, G.W.L.H.

Smokey

It's Smokey - checking in to say I'm having lots of fun with the other Boxers here! I have a lot of energy, so my new home must have another Boxer and a secure fenced yard where I can run my "Crazy 8's". My Foster Mom says I have a really big heart and I'm willing to please. I just need to slow down and pay attention....Huh? We're going to meet with a nice lady and begin something called obedience training which will help me be the Best Boxer Ever! Just so you know, my new family will be required to continue training with me so we'll get to do it together too! Check back soon and I'll let you know how I'm doing :-)

Sparky Sparky came into rescue with his buddy Rockwell because they lost their human. Sparky has been with Rocky since he was 3 months old and they have a very strong bond. Their love and loyalty to their human knew no bounds and these two boys would make a great pair of companions to any home. Please consider adding both of these guys to your family and experience their loyalty and love for yourself.

UPDATE 12/22/08:

Sparky is the bestest, goofiest, mushiest, lovingest, friendliest, lug of a boy you could ever want to meet. He has a bully stance and deep creases in his face, one eye blue, the other brown. I don’t believe there exists a soul that wouldn’t melt at first site. He is extremely adaptable and I have no doubt that he would adjust to being adopted without his brother Rocky.

Sparky is well behaved with any dog, any gender, any human, any child, and has absolutely no prey drive. And Yes! he is house broken and he’ll surely let you know when he needs to go out. He doesn’t mind a crate at all and will often enter himself for a good ole' nap. He also delights in subbing as an extremely tolerant and fluffy pillow for the young and old alike. Sparky is just a big sack of bunches of love. There is nothing that you could do for, with, or to him, lovingly, that he wouldn't meet with great appreciation and devotion.

Because Sparky is such a very easy dog to fall in love with and love on, he will easily be adopted.

Duchess UPDATE 9/16/08:

My name is Duchess, and I have NOT been treated like a Duchess during my lifetime. I have been used as a breeding machine and when I came to FBR I was in heat. Being in heat is bad enough, but did you notice I am 9 years old? I had been in boarding for two weeks because there wasn't an open foster home for me, but now I am
settling in at my foster home. There is an 80lb Boxer boy that wants to play, but I am still a little scared of him. There are two kitties and I am probably just a little too curious about them. My foster mom has to keep saying, "no Duchess," when I get too curious.

My face is starting to turn gray, but it just makes me look distinguished. The rest of my body is a beautiful brindle and
white. I am starting to let my foster family see the true Duchess. I am starting to wiggle my nub and give kisses.

I am still pretty frightened and unsure of what is expected of me. I am looking forward to the day when all that is expected of me is to be a companion, share special times together, to love and be
loved and to be treated like the Duchess that I am.

Anxiously awaiting your response - Duchess

Vanna

Update 3/1/09

Vanna has done very well with her treatments and is gaining weight. She is all puppy and loving life. Turns out that she is really not suited for cats as she pesters them mercilessly. She loves to play with her dog friends, little kids, and is in general very friendly. We have determined that she is deaf. This took a while to realize as she is very responsive to us in the house and always in the middle of everything! It has it's advantages if I am in a hurry and unable to let her out during a quick stop home, she sleeps in the crate and never hears me come in. She doesn't bark when the door bell rings, another plus! She still whines and talks and dreams. Care must be taken that she doesn't get out as she would not hear us call her back or hear a horn blow. She loves to run and play and a fenced yard would be ideal. More to follow as she continues to recover.

Montana Montana is a non-hearing, very smart girl. She already knows the hand signs for sit and stay, although this does not mean she does either for long! She is now living with a Chihuahua and a cat, so we'll let you know soon how her cat-training is coming along. Montana was just spayed, will finish her vaccinations at the end of January, and will then be ready for her loving forever home.

UPDATE 1/19/09:

Hi everyone, I am enjoying my new foster home. My new foster Mom took out my stitches yesterday and she will let me play more now. I want to run around in the yard, but she said I need to wait a couple more days.

I like my new fur brother and I think I like the kitty, but she hides. Mom says she is scared cuz I'm a big girl and she never saw that before. I like my skin sister, she likes to cuddle with me. My new foster family is teaching me sign language. I know, "sit", "stay", "down", "come", "look at me", and I am learning eat. My new foster Dad takes me on long walks everyday. I like to nap on his lap. I ask nice and he says, sure, come up. Nap? Yea that sounds good, gotta go, Dad's lap is waiting.

Misstree I am a complete joy and have my cool natural tail intact. I sit, I listen and I go potty outside on command. I had an accident the first day at my foster home. Hey, I didn't even know where the door was yet! My foster Mom said it was okay. Lots of us rescue dogs have one or two accidents when we first get to our new homes. How would you like to be taken from a cage and then put in a new house where you can't find the door?! I like to eat in my crate, where my food is safe from my nosy foster brother and sister. I am very skinny, so my foster Mom is giving me extra yummies in my food so I will look pretty again. My foster siblings are jealous and I am trying to be nice, but it scares me not to know when I will get food again. When you have to hunt for food and water, it sometimes makes you grumbly when another dog tries to take it. Other than that, I love other dogs and am starting to play and sleep close to my foster brother. I am curious about the old cat, but haven't been allowed real close. I will keep you posted on whether I want to chase her or not. I am not sure how I like my metal house (crate) when my foster people go to work. At least they come home and love me. I am still nervous about getting left behind. Being a stray is for the birds! Why don't you adopt me and make me part of your family? I will gladly give up the title of "just another stray dog at the shelter". I am worthy of being loved and I pay forward.

UPDATE 9/17/08:

Hi! It’s Misstree! I am such a good girl. I am completely housebroken (duh) and love to romp and play. I have typical Boxer energy and love to run laps in the backyard with my foster brother and sister. My foster momma said I am very submissive with other dogs. I do well on long walks and really enjoy them. My foster Momma also said I could use some work on manners. Are those college classes?

I don’t have any skin kids living at my house, but we have several who visit. I have been kind to them and tried to play gentle, as they look so small.

My cat training is coming along. I am not allowed to “pet” the kitties without supervision yet. I get pretty excited to see the kitties and want to rub my nose on them and push them. They feel like a big fluffy ball and smell good. Once my cat manners are trustworthy, I can spend time alone with my cat friends.

My foster daddy forgot to shut the crate (which I like) one day. I was OUT ALL DAY! I was a perfect angel. I probably don’t need to be crated, but I prefer to eat my meals in it. I am still concerned about my food when the other dogs are around. It’s better for me to eat alone in my crate and not be nervous.

I am ready to be adopted and would love to meet you!!

UPDATE 2/9/09:

Hi, everybody! I am the bestest girl ever! I am full of life and love. I am great in or out of my crate. I play with my foster brother and sister by running and chasing them. I can run faster than a race horse on my grass track (my foster family’s backyard) ha. I have short bursts of energy and then I like to lounge around.

I walk well on a leash once I get acclimated to my surroundings and the excitement of a walk wears off a bit! I love to go bye-bye and for walks. I am a snuggle bunny, but never get on the couch or bed uninvited. I love my kitties and have turned into a very good girl who can be around the kitties without being supervised. I get excited when new people come over but I don’t jump on them!

I can't wait to have my very own family. When you fill out your application be sure to ask for Misstree! You'll be so glad you did :-) See you soon!

Skylar

Update 4/13/09 (continued):

Oh! let me tell you about a really stupid thing I did! I really love this doggie bed that foster mama pulled out from under me a couple of times cuz it belongs to my 10 lb Yorkie foster sib. Well I disagree, so she finally gave in :) and I sleep in it all the time! She laughs and says it's so funny cuz only my butt fits! Doesn't she know that a warm, cozy, curled up wiggle butt is everything? Well, I was playing with my foster sib Heaven (the one that had wormies) and we had a blast...pullin' apart all the foam part! BUT...sheesh! now I have no lil cozy butt bed to sleep in! I heard the WRONG word, like I didn't know it was WRONG? it was MY loss!

I don't much like to be outside, would rather be inside, 'cept when I have to doo doo or peeee, of course! There is so much more I want to tell you but my foster mama says I can tell you more later....oh! wait! one more thing please mama, type it for me please? pretty please? In case you aren't sure you want to meet me to see if you'll give me my Forever Home, I don't jump on kids ever! I don't even jump up on the bed unless I'm invited. I sure would love to but you can decide...SEE? I'm the 'bestest' boy I can be!

I'd love to meet you and you won't be sorry you did! You'll love my manners and temperament (I'm quoting foster mama) and my kidney bean wiggle! Ok ok ok, yes foster mama, I know that was more than one thing, but the SKY's the Limit!!
XOXOXOXO
Sky Boy

First comments:Sky was discovered crossing back and forth across a busy road a few blocks from his Foster Mama's home. Only by luck was he not hit by a car! It appears he was abandoned as no one has responded to multiple 'found boxer' postings, nor has anyone been seen looking for him. Sky is a very gentle soul. He is kind, mindful, and aims to please. He craves loving and dearly wants someone to love on. Someone who will be gentle in their touch and tone, until he feels more secure. What he has been through and for how long, no one knows. He was afraid of his fellow boxer siblings & jumpy when touched anywhere near his hindquarters, BUT he has improved as he learns that he won't be mistreated or thrown out. He is also housebroken ~whew~ and neutered. Sky's best friend is a 7-year-old neighbor boy that comes to visit every day just to take him for a walk. Sky's good with little dogs and goofy with 'those curious creatures' we call cats :) He does his best to engage in play, until he is swatted by 'that thing' that he believes might be a toy just for him!

Shylo I am very scared right now. I have lived with my family for 7 years and they have fallen on hard times. I get to meet my foster mom next week and I can't wait. I love to ride in the car and give hugs and kisses to kids.

UPDATE 5/27/08:

Shylo is doing just fine in his foster home; he is such a good boy. Shylo is a happy boy who thinks he is a puppy. He especially loves sitting in your lap or just being with you. If you are out, he will wait patiently for your return. Then he will reward you with lots of wiggles and nub wagging, Boxer style. NO jumping, NO chewing; Shylo is perfectly housetrained.

When we visit skin children, Shylo is a watchful participant while they play. He also loves his squeaky little football. Toys are new to him and he loves his playtime.

Please look at this boy if you desire and older, calmer, quiet guy.

He has been around other dogs and does well. Right now, we are getting ready to go to the Big Apple but will be back in August. Shylo loves his road trips!

UPDATE 8/31/08:

Shylo did great on our vacation. He just loves riding in the car. What a companion!

He just looks out the window and takes in all the sights. Shylo does get along with other dogs.

Cats? He does not pay attention to them if they are in the house. However, if they are outside he will protect his territory and go for the chase! Watch out squirrels - he about broke his leg going after one of them.

He just flew out the door…lickety - split.

Shylo does entertain himself and has a few favorite toys (the squeaky kind). We play footsie with those squeaky things and he just loves it! You musn't leave the door open because he will run out. Mostly Shylo is a great mellow guy.

Shylo is just as sweet and loving as ever. He asks to sit on the couch and we do that often.

I can leave him alone for hours and he has always done well! There is no "need" for crating. I have nothing but praises for Shylo. He is just an all around great Boxer BOY! What a wonderful friend!

UPDATE 12/13/08:

Shylo is still waiting for that special family.

I have had the pleasure of taking care of Shylo for a while. When I arrive home, this senior boy just loves to greet me with boxer kisses and wiggles.

Shylo likes walks; he is in perfect boxer posture, in an alert mode looking for kitties. He knows exactly where all the kitties hang out. I just say, "BAD"…. and he gives me this look like, "Mom, I wanna have some fun ..."

I think Shylo will make the perfect companion. He is happiest when he tags along with me. Now that the days are cooler, I take him everywhere, and he's content just checking out the sights. Shylo is so spoiled!

Priscilla

Comments: Priscilla was full of kisses for the kind FBR Volunteer who picked her up from the shelter and provided her with a soft warm blanket to snuggle in as she started her new life. This sweet little girl is very thin and will need to gain some weight before she can be spayed and treated for heartworms. More to come once she settles in with her foster family.

Return

Rockwell Rocky and Sparky recently lost their human. They stayed with him right to the end giving comfort in a time of need. These boys have been together since Sparky was just a little pup and have never been separated. A home where these two boys could remain together would be ideal. Please give some thought to opening your heart and your home to these two buddies that will bring a whole new definition of love and loyalty to your family.

UPDATE 12/22/08:

Rocky (Rockwell) is a wonderful, proud, distinguished, loyal, gentle and selfless boy. He sits tall as he looks deep into your soul with his gorgeous harlequin-masked eyes. When you give in (and you will!) to letting him take a nap on your bed, be prepared for him to reach out with his long-legged paws to pull you closer for some lovin', then push and pull to keep your attention or to have a bit of a gentle boxing match!

I believe that being the older of the two and so very loyal, he misses his daddy terribly. When a man is around to play with and love on, he lights up and is an extremely delighted, playful boy! He will love all of his family members, but I’d bet if we asked him, “what are your favorite things?”, he’d surely say “a daddy, a rope toy, tug-o-war, and a daddy!” After having had him with me for a while now, I feel that he can easily adapt to being adopted without his brother Sparky. He may even prefer to be an only dog.

Rocky’s health is great, he just needs to put on some more weight. He hates ‘food stealers’ like his brother....the fatty! And Yippee! he is most definitely housebroken. He will also accept a crate, although he resists entry, but nothing a biggish shove can’t solve. He knows his manners and is mindful and obedient. He definitely knows what it means to love and be loved. You’ll find it hard to not fall in love with Rocky once you see the loyal, longing love in his eyes... the windows to his soul. His forever home will be truly blessed!

Secret

Update 4/3/09 continued:

At first she was a little leery of her foster brother who we got from FBR five years ago. There were a few minor tussles but soon enough they were getting along famously, sharing bones and toys and napping in the sun together.

About 10 days after we got her, and after she had gained 5 pounds, she was cleared to begin her heart worm treatment. That was tough on everybody. She of course felt very poorly and as foster parents we felt badly for her. But within a week she was feeling much better. And she had her casts removed too! Her legs are a little weak, but once she’s through with the heartworm treatment, we will begin building up her strength again. We don’t know yet how well she gets along with children because we’re keeping her quiet for another two weeks until she gets her final heartworm check.

Her personality is now coming through. She is a real sweetie and is perfectly happy to give kisses and snuggle. Foster dad works at home so she spends her days curled up under his desk. In the evenings, she parks between mom and dad for a snuggle and a snooze. She doesn’t get into any trouble when she’s left in the house alone. She snores like a freight train, howls when she wants to go out, and growls when she is happy. She loves rides in the car and her short walks. She knows how to sit, heel, come and shake. She’s a little iffy on “stay” especially when there is a bowl of food involved. She is well on her way to a full recovery and will make someone a wonderful little boxer girl some day soon.

Update 2/22/09:

Secret has progressed very well and now has been pulled into Florida Boxer Rescue. She will need further surgery, specialized treatment, and will also be treated for heartworms.

Secret is a beautiful, flashy fawn Boxer who is recovering from being hit by a car. The family who adopted her last fall from Putnam County A.S. couldn't afford her vet bills. She is being well cared for during her recovery but will need a good home with a patient family when she is strong enough, maybe without other dogs.

Secret's hip was dislocated and is in a sling. Also, both back legs were fractured and her right leg has a torn ligament. Hopefully she will not need further surgery. She is on anti-biotics and anti-inflammatory meds. Secret has to re-learn to walk. We hope she will soon be running like all Boxers.

The good people at the Vet Hospital she was taken to are donating the cost of boarding and the Rudmans are paying all vet bills until Secret is well. They visit Secret often and will help with walks during the rehab. But they can't keep her as they have several dogs of their own.

Please consider opening your heart to Secret as she is a beautiful girl with a sweet disposition. As she improves with each passing day, it becomes more important that we find foster care or her forever home. She had previously been used for breeding but still has a lot of love to give.

Forest
Gump

My name is Forest (Forest Gump) and my foster mom has named me this because I currently have some issues with my legs that the vet is looking into. I walk and run funny right now so mom thought it would be just sooooo hilarious to call me Forest.

I am a sweet loving little puppy that just wants a family to love me. I am so cute that all the people at the vet's office carry me around like a baby. I am loving all this attention that is for sure.

I may not be a well bred Boxer ( I have a slightly longer nose than the standard mush face) but don't let that dissuade you from adopting me.

More to come after we learn more about my legs.

UPDATE 11/19/08:

Hey everybody, it's me Forest, Forest Gump. I am one lucky boy that the people from Florida Boxer Rescue came and took me in. The nice lady that picked me up took me to her house for a few days and then I got to visit another place with this Big boxer boy, Duke, that is supposed to be soooooo tough and well...he's nothing but putty in my paws. So now I am living with him and his humans and his fur sister and this thing called a cat. I'm working my charms on them all and I think I've got 'em all right where I want 'em.

Everybody says I look a little funny because my legs don't seem to match my body, and my nose is too long, but really they think I am pretty cute 'cause they are always loving and cuddling on me. I do have a little trouble making my legs do what I want them to sometimes, but the more I play with Duke the stronger I get and the better my legs listen to me. I get to visit a special doctor soon who will check me out so we know if I am just growing too fast or something like that. In the meantime I am just going to keep playing and running and trying to convince the cat I am okay while I wait for my forever home. Mom says someone very special is out there waiting just for a boy like me. I sure can't wait to meet you, please come see me soon. Love, Forest.

UPDATE 12/4/08:

Hi everyone!! My foster mom says I am the sweetest boy on Earth. I went to see the nice orthopedic doctor and he says it looks good for me to grow up to be a healthy handsome boy. I still need a little TLC for the next few months while my body catches up with my bones so I will be staying with my foster mom and dad and my fur siblings for a little longer to see how things go. I am learning a lot here. I can "sit," and "down," and "wait" for my food and I don't grab cookies anymore. I am pretty much housebroken mom says. I guess that is real good, I don't hear "ohhhh Forest" from mom or dad. They still remind me though that I have to "go outside" once in a while. I really like my kitty brother Red. He is a little old and cranky and he really doesn't want to get down from his comfy couch and play with me, so when mom tells me to leave the cat alone I go find somebody else to romp with. I love to play with my brother Duke; he's such a cream puff. I also love to cuddle on the couch with anybody that will join me, human, cat or dog.
I've been to a few new places to visit, met some very nice people and lots of other dogs. I like going visiting. I hope mom takes me to some more new places.
Good food, good friends, lots of toys and a soft bed (or lap!). What could be better. This is really a dog's life. Man it's good to be a dog!!!!

Capone

Capone was surrendered to Hernando Animal Control with the explanation that his humans couldn't afford to feed him. At 55 pounds, he needs to gain some weight, then be neutered.

At one time Capone's leg was broken and it was fixed but he does have some nasty scars to show for it. More info to come. Can you help by fostering Capone?

UPDATE 8/26/08:

Hi, there - Al Capone here... just busted out of the joint yesterday and this dame drove me to my new foster mom. WOW - I love her. I have a foster sister named Bailey who keeps a watchful eye over me. I think she's trying to get me to go straight; older women are to die for. This foster mom of mine keeps trying to give me treats - I dont know what a treat is so I gotta be careful it's not a "mickey." There's something called toys here too - have no idea what they are either. But ya know - it may not be a bad place to hang my hat. Gotta go check out my new digs!

UPDATE 10/12/08:

Capone went to see Dr. Hay and will be having surgery shortly. He will be pain free but his back leg might be a little stiff as it will be fused. Capone's recovery time is about 6 months; however, he is still available for adoption at this time. His new family will just need to understand that he cannot be permitted to run around. More updates after Capone has his surgery.

UPDATE 12/5/08:

I spoke with Dr. Hay today and Capone will be released sometime after Jan. 2nd, 2009. Once he is released he will be good to go. Capone may have a slight limp due to the fusing of his ankle area. We still don't know his limitiations, but he will need to be walked on a leash and no running and playing as of yet. We also had Dr. Hay evaluate Capone's age as the shelter gave a three year span on him. His actual age is around 4years old. UPDATE 1/4/09: Capone was released from Dr. Hay's care as of January 2. He has been walking up to a mile a day, but if he tries to go any farther he starts to limp. He is ready for his forever home. Anyone who adopts Capone has to let him recoup at his own pace. He has come a long, long way from when we first brought him into Florida Boxer Rescue. He is a laid back boxer who loves to sleep on the couch..

Minni Minni was a stray when someone found her and took her to a shelter from which FBR recovered her and brought her to our foster home. It's hard to say exactly what her age is but the vet's estimate has her birthday at 11-03-04. We named her Minni. She's rather small at an estimated 40 lbs but has good proportions and will weigh more when she has had a proper diet for a while. It was easy to see that her ribs were showing a bit more than they should. She came in with a negative heartworm test as well as no internal parasites but had fleas which were taken care of immediately. She's a very sweet little girl and although she's been a little testy with "Woody" our 4 year old male, she has obviously had some training as she sits on command most of the time and walks at heel very well. We took her to her first outing with about a hundred dogs present and she behaved admirably while there and slept in the back both directions of the 1 hour or so trip. She's calm and unafraid and has good energy. Minni will have an appointment with the vet and be spayed after which she'll be available for adoption. I'll post a follow up as events proceed.

UPDATE 12/22/08:

Hi, Minni here. First, about my condition: It's been about 4 weeks now at my foster home and I've been to the vet for my spaying... hooray, no more puppies to raise! I'm doing fine and will get my stitches out in a couple of days now. Also, they found no parasites so I didn't need any treatments for that and I've gained most of my weight back; I now weigh 50 pounds. At first I was a bit nervous about my 85 pound foster brother Woody, but he's really nice to me and I know now that when he growls it's just his way of talking; he's got a low voice, that's all. We play tug-the-toy with his soft toys....and he talks while we do it.

I like to take walks and I come immediately when I hear my foster parents get the leash out of the drawer. They let me run and play with some of the other dogs in the neighborhood. I really showed them how fast and agile I am the other day while playing with a year and a half old Golden Retriever girl named Daisy. Another time I got to play with a year old boy Boxer named Jack. He pretty much wore me out, but I kept up for the whole afternoon. I really like the neighbor's little girl and her puppy, a Shitzou boy who jumps all over me. My foster parents let me go out in the back yard any time I want to and I really like the outside so I can watch what's happening in the neighborhood. I sleep next to my foster Mom on a bed on the floor and in the morning I put my paws up on the bed so she'll rub me. When she lets me, I cuddle in the bed with her, but not until she says it's OK. I'm a good girl and I can hardly wait to get to my forever home and make someone happy.

Bye for now, Minni
