Submitted on June 1, 2008 Adopter: Margaret M. Boxer's Name: Petey (2005)
"Not many words can allow
me to share what Petey has become to our family. Petey is a non-hearing white
Boxer boy, that shared time with our Ohio Boxer girl, Cannie Reynolds, 'til last
Dec. They had a touchy start for a couple weeks, but learned to love each other
and share our love too. I think he knows what I am thinking lots of times
during our day, but when "daddy" comes from work, look out, he wants only
daddy........:) We are so thankful to have Petey in our family, which has been
home to many other Boxers: Cici, Demmy and Grimmie, Rocky and Princess are
waiting at The Bridge. Thank you many times over for doing so much for families
like ours and our wonderful Boxers in Florida.
I am available for home visits and down the road maybe fostering? Petey is not
social with other dogs; so not sure we want to subject him or another dog. Love
reading your stories on the webpage and say a prayer for lots of the "loves"
there.
Thankful for all the efforts and events to help the Boxers in Florida."
Submitted on June 1, 2008: Adopter: Virginia, Kerry & Melissa Boxer's Name: Brodie (2006)
"He is one spoiled hound. He sleeps on a temperpedic mattress with a pink leopard soft blanket! He has more toys than 6 Boxers should have. We love him very, very, much. He loves his trips to the school to pick up Melissa everyday. There is way too much to say, to put in this little box."
Submitted on June 1, 2008: Adopter: Jesy S. Boxer's Name: Surrey aka Serenade (2007)
"My husband's family has
always owned Boxers. Their Boxers always had the clipped tails and cropped ears.
His family has had the brindle, white and fawns; he learned long ago color means
nothing.
But he still knew he would want a Boxer with the "right look," cropped ears and
all. He found on the website, one or two that fit the bill, but they were taken
before we were able to get our application in.
One day we caught up with a few from Florida Boxer Rescue at the Petsmart up in
Sarasota. One of the dogs they had there was Serenade for the meet and greet who
was up for adoption. My husband hardly had a moment to look at her in the
beginning, and was talking to one of the volunteers about the other dogs up for
adoption. He learned another one with the "right look" had also been adopted and
was a little down in the dumps.
Serenade walked up to him, she had been so well behaved at the store, and nudged
him for some attention. He continued petting her while talking to the volunteer
(Bev). After awhile I started to talk to Bev as well and my husband sat down and
started to play a little with the dog. She was white, her nose is a little too
long, her tail was cropped too short and her ears were not cropped at all. I
didn't give the dog much of a look over since I knew he was so stubborn about
the "right look" of the dog.
After about a half hour I went looking around pricing all of the things I knew
we'd have to buy before we brought a dog home. While I was doing that, in around
the 45th minute we were there, he found me in an aisle and informed me that
Serenade was HIS dog. We were approved already; we were just waiting for the
right one. I asked if he was sure... but the look he sent me with the "Oh Yes"
answer convinced me that he found his match! We spoke to Bev and a day or two
later Serenade came to live with us. We renamed her Surrey and she's been a
treasure ever since!
We might not be nearly as happy as we are right now with her if we had waited to
find the "right look." There isn't a person who meets her who doesn't comment on
what a great dog she is!
When we get stuck on a look, we miss the beauty that is before us! There are so
many fantastic dogs that aren't going to have the "right look," but are going to
make you happier than you could imagine!!
You can meet Surrey a bit more and read about her more at
www.myspace.com/surreyinfla . She's the best dog my husband has ever had..
and that's saying something!
You can use my name and the website I posted on here and my email as well. That
way they'll know I am a true person with a real live dog!"
Submitted on June 1, 2008: Adopter: Monique R. Boxer's Name: Amber aka Pinto (March 21, 2008)
"Amber has adjusted so well to her new home. She never new how to really play with toys or her fur brothers but she sure loves to do both now! She has been an absolute joy to have. She is funny, silly, and very agile. We love her. She has several nicknames around our house! "Smooshie" is one of the many as she has a smooshy face and gives LOTS of smooshy kisses !!!! We adore her as much as we did our beloved Roxy girl that we lost. Thank you for rescuing such a wonderful dog and allowing us the joy to give her our love!"

Submitted on June 3, 2008: Adopter: Sandy W. Boxer's Name: Bruiser (2006)
"We are the lucky parents of the Bruiser. We adopted him at 8 weeks old; someone put his mom in rescue while she was pregnant. Bruiser is our second Boxer rescue adoption. Bowser was the first; we lost him to cancer in 2005. Bruiser was a welcome addition to the family, he keeps us going and going and going! He crate and potty trained quickly and is as full of energy today as the day we brought him home. He loves the boat. We try and take him out every weekend. There are some sandbars in Ponce Inlet where we can beach the boat and he can run free! That's a really great day for him. Right now we are trying to get him a bit trimmer, seems we all put on a bit too much "holiday" weight! He is looking good and seems to have even more spunk now that he has lost a few pounds!"
Submitted on June 6, 2008: Adopter: Trish G. Boxer's Name: Jasmine & Dexter (2003 & 2006)
"We adopted Jasmine from the rescue after being abandoned & abused, and despite her past, she has always been a big bundle of love & extremely obedient. After loosing her Boxer brother Roadie to a heart tumor, we got Dexter from the rescue as an owner surrender who left in tears when she left him behind, however he immediately made our house his home. They are the best of friends and are like bookends! We recommend the rescue to anyone with a love for Boxers, especially rescued ones."

Submitted on June 7, 2008: Adopter: Lori K. Boxer's Name: Dutchess (October 2003)
"I cannot tell you how blessed we feel to have gotten such a wonderful, loving & kind animal from FBR. We had a 2 year old Boxer/Lab mix & I felt like she should have a sister to keep her company when we were at work. I kept looking on the website at all the dogs that needed homes & I would just cry. I felt so bad for them & I wished I could have adopted them all! But it was a big job in convincing my husband that we needed another member to our family. I filled out the application & Claire got in touch with me & came to our house & told us we would be able to adopt. I was so happy I couldn't wait to go out to Deland to look & see what we could find to be a good match with Kiki. Well there happened to be an outbreak of Kennel Cough so we were unable to take Kiki with us to meet her future sister/brother so my husband & I went & saw so many wonderful dogs it made us so sad to see how many people have gotten rid of such sweet animals. All we thought was thank God for FBR & what they do to save them. Anyways we went home & were waiting to get word that the Kennel Cough was gone so we could take another trip out with Kiki coming along with us. In the meantime I kept watching the website & I found under the owner surrender page, the cutest white Boxer! In the picture she was laying on a couch & I was just so drawn to her. I got in touch with Claire & she got in touch with the owner of Dutchess & we decided she would come to our house with her for the girls to meet. They hit it off from the start. We were worried about having 2 females & I'm sure it doesn't always work but it has been a dream. They had so much in common they were the same age, ate the same cereal & both so playful! It is so cute to see how much they love each other. If we have to take one to the vet we have to take both as the one who may be left at home seems to get anxiety I'm sure, wondering what's going on. So to FBR... my husband & I are so thankful for such a great blessing."

Submitted on June 8, 2008: Adopter: Lisa & Greg L. Boxer's Name: Lily aka Manchita (October 2005)
"Our love of Boxers began with Duke. We rescued him around 6 months old. He began his 5 year run with mast tumors on his 3rd birthday. When he was around 6, we began a search for another Boxer to add to our family- mostly for Duke. We felt like another dog would give him a reason to live even longer. We found FLBR and got our first foster in October of 2005. It was love at first sight and on my 2 hour ride home, I called my hubby and said we are keeping her. She was finally home. Within hours Duke and Lily were best buds. Duke died in 2007, 2 years after his battle with lung cancer had begun. Lily was truly the reason he was so happy 'til the very end. We are forever in her debt and FLBR's as well. Lily will be 4 in July and is still the craziest little girl you've ever met. She is finally at 50 lbs and we struggle to keep her there because she is so playful. Life revolves around her frisbee. Not a minute goes by that she isn't coaxing someone, anyone, to take her outside and throw it for her. She is so great at catching it in the air. We also spend a lot of time out on the boat and she can be seen in her red life jacket, jumping off the boat or just swimming the whole time we are at the island. She's a snuggler and boy does she love my youngest son. He spends the most time with her besides myself. We are grateful to FLBR and will continue to volunteer and do CURS and foster whenever we can. Thanks again. We love our little girl!"

Submitted on June 9, 2008: Adopter: Samantha & Steve S. Boxer's Name: Jake aka Boo Bear (July 2005)
"Jake aka Boo Bear was brought to the Deland Kennel and nursed back to health by Anita. We had originally gone to see another Boxer. I caught a glimpse of Jake off to the side. He was pretty pathetic looking. Anita explained that when she got him, they weren't sure he would make it...that he had come a long way and still had a long way to go. It was sheer instinct that told my husband and I he was the one. I'll never forget the look he gave Anita as we put him in the car. I remember her telling him, "Go on, it'll be o.k." Sure enough, with a little help from our Brutus, Jake has become our big, beautiful...BABY! Thank you Boxer Rescue!"

Submitted on June 10, 2008: Adopter: Jan B. Boxer's Name: Buddy (9/11/07)
"On July 10, 2007 my precious Boxer of 13 1/2 years passed. I was devastated. My husband didn't want to get another Boxer until we traveled a bit. But he looked on the Florida Boxer Rescue website every night. Buddy at the time wasn't available for adopting but they let my husband visit him anyway. That same night the foster mom brought Bud to us. I loved him the minute I saw him. I always tell him my precious Mac sent him to us. He is very spoiled and I will spoil him and give him the best life he could ever imagine."

Submitted on June 9, 2008: Adopter: Kathy & Dzeni H. Boxer's Name: Diesel (2005) & Gabi (2008)
"We have had Gabi now for about 3 months and she is growing and settling in and is a typical healthy Boxer puppy at 6 months old - chases bugs, does her puppy runs around the yard regularly, and even sings when she wants attention! Diesel was about two years old when we adopted him, and is about 5 now. He's adjusting well to Gabi's antics. She adores him, and he's having such fun with a sister that has energy to run around with him! She follows him everywhere, imitates him, is learning his bad habits (like jumping in the bathtub to get water out of the drain - although she's not quite big enough so she licks the outside of the tub instead!), and chews on him all over to get him to play with her.
They are both such a joy to us, and we can't thank you enough for allowing us to be their family! Thank you!!"

Submitted on June 10, 2008: Adopter: Lisa R. Boxer's Name: Mattie (2006)
"We adopted Mattie, aka Kya, in the spring of '06. We drove from Seminole County down to Nakomis to pick her up. She was fostered by Beverly who shed a few tears as she said good-bye.:( We arrived home well after dark and slowly introduced Mattie to her new home. She met our cat (they have become the best of friends) and did very well that first night. The only incident we had was she literally walked into our pool. She didn't fall in-she walked in-it was dark and she just simply didn't know it was there. My daughter jumped in to help her out-she has avoided the pool every day since then!!!! Mattie very quickly wiggled her way into our hearts-as Boxers tend to do. She is our third Boxer but our first adopted through FBR. What a wonderful organization! We would do it all over again and have recommended it to friends."
Submitted on June 11, 2008: Adopter: Paula J. Boxer's Name: Kane (2004) & Dakota (2007) & Titus (2007)
"I just want to say how thankful I am to Florida Boxer Rescue. I first adopted a Boxer named Kane in 2004. He passed away only after a year and a half. I knew I would adopt again after some time. It has been a year now since I have had my Boxer boys: Titus and Dakota. They are doing wonderful. We celebrated their one year anniversary with steak and eggs for breakfast. They have come a long way with being with the children. They have adjusted well and I am so happy how far they have come. They are quick learners. In December we even took them on a road trip to New York by car. They loved their space in the back seat and all of the attention from family and friends. Thanks for two great Boxer boys or should I say three. Keep up the good work and God Bless."
Submitted on June 17, 2008: Adopter: Cherie M. Boxer's Name: Skipper (2008)
"I just wanted to give an update on Skipper. I adopted him on my 40th birthday, May 23, 2008. He is beyond words. He is absolutely beautiful and a perfect fit in my family. I have renamed him Raphael (after the ArchAngel and the Church I attend). We call him 'Raffy' for short. Raffy watches over my mother when I'm at work on midnight shift. He is so strong and loves to play. He'll come tearing off the porch and run right into me telling me it's time to play. He loves to run in the backyard after doing some lizard hunting. I took him to my vet to get his tags changed to Pinellas county and his flea/heartworm treatment. They loved him at the vet's office. I've told many people about Florida Boxer Rescue and they think it's a wonderful program.
Raffy is my 4th Boxer in my lifetime and he reminds me of the other Boxers we've had due to similarities of the breed. I definitely feel my father chose him for me from Heaven. Raffy is very happy in his new permanent home.
Thank you Florida Boxer Rescue,
Peace,
Cherie"
