Submitted on January 5, 2009:    Adopter:   Lori S.   Boxer's Name:   Joey (2008)

"My husband and children knew they would love Joey the minute they set eyes on him. When Rita S. took the three of them to the shelter it was all over in two seconds. My husband called after being there two minutes and said we are all on our way home. Joey has been a joy to have. At first he was shy, not sure what was right and wrong in our house, but he is every bit a family member as any. He and my husband have formed a bond like no other and he is active and loves to play. He has the cutest growl that he uses when he is being playful and he is very protective of the girls. He knows when they are not feeling well and will lay by their doors until they are better. We are so thankful to Rita and all the FBR people and efforts. You are the reason we added to our family.

Submitted on January 24, 2009:     Boxer's Name:   Hooch (2008)

"Hooch is ready to be leader of the free world!! What a great boxer!!!! He has helped to mend a lot of broken hearts after the loss of our beloved Ralphie this fall. He has fenced acreage to run on and a little boxer girlfriend (acutally a typical bossy female) to play with. Other than intractable flatulence (even for a boxer!!) he is the perfect boxer rescue and secure in the knowledge that he has found a forever home. Thank you again to the FBR and the foster homes that help saved Hooch and all the Boxers in SW Florida. Next step is to assimilate him into Red Sox Nation this spring!!!"

Submitted on January 24, 2009:    Adopter:   Christina D.    Boxer's Name:   Ziva (2008)

Happy New Year! Ziva is doing better and better each week. We have been doing some training and she seems to be responding very well with it. I am going to FINALLY take her to the dog park this weekend to see how she does with "come", "sit" etc when there are way more distractions. I have been so hesitant to take her after the "runaway" scare we had. She is slowly gaining weight and looking very healthy. I have her on the raw diet so I think the weight gain is taking a little longer due to that. My previous female was so overweight, I want Ziva to gain it back gradually and keep her at a healthy weight. She looks good!

Adopting Ziva has been an amazing experience for my daughters. It has had an enormous effect on their responsiveness to the dogs. Before Ziva, they really did not put much attention to them. Now, their world focuses around them. It is really great!

Submitted on February 1, 2009:    Adopter:   Marie   Boxer's Name:   Apollo (2009)

"We are so thankful to Paulette for helping us with this adoption and also to his foster family for taking care of him before we "found" him. Apollo's reputation for being a LOUD and CONSTANT barker was a bit scary for our 3 year old granddaughter but he has now become her constant playmate. And the noise level in our house has gone up about 100 decibels...lol!

We absolutely love this crazy guy. Can't say the same for the neighbors that get to listen to him "talk" to them from our patio area but he is settling down somewhat(sure!). He has pretty much taken over the house as most Boxers do and he is definitely "living large". His favorite place to be is right next to our granddaughter during meal time,hmmmmmmm....is that surprising???
He is still quite a velcro boy which makes for some competition with our velcro cat but they are working it out.

Will post some pictures real soon.

To everyone at FBR we thank you again for your generosity and kindness in caring for these wonderful "orphans."

Submitted on February 22, 2009:    Adopter:   Chuck & Joe  Boxer's Name:   Shyla (2009)

What more can anyone say than a gigantic THANK YOU to FBR and particularily Patty LaBrot from here in the Orlando area.

Shyla entered her forever home 2/1/09. She accidentally escaped from that home the next day.

Only with the tireless, immediate & dedicated response of Central Florida volunteers organized by Patty LaBrot were we able to capture Shyla -- 3 days and 2 nights later.Truly a miracle!

Some volunteers drove for hours late at night to help with the search and rescue. Patty continues her relentless efforts for boxers everywhere. Shyla is most lucky to have been rescued by her and know the woman. Shyla's foster mom, Nicole, should also be proud. Shyla is healthy, happy and each day lets us know her gratitude for FBR. The organization saved another young life. Photos of our delightful flashy fawn youngster soon.

Submitted on March 9, 2009:    Adopter:   The Richards Family   Boxer's Name:   Cinder (2004)

We adopted our beautiful boxer Cinder in July of 2004. She was 15 months old, and I have to say I personally was reluctant to adopt a boxer. My husband told me how amazing these dogs were and having a 4 year old I needed to make sure that would be the case. When we met her at her foster home I fell in love with her. My opinion of these amazing animals has completely changed. I cannot imagine our lives without her. Cinder is so smart, playful, and loving that she definitely completes our family. At first she would chase our cat Precious and I was certain she wanted to eat her; man you should see them now. They lay together like they're sisters, at least until Cinder decides that she is going to make her play!!!! Our daughter is an only child and she and Cinder play all day long. I am constantly telling the both of them to cool it.

The funniest thing that I have noticed about her is her connection with my husband who is a quadriplegic. Cinder will follow him around the house and lay right at his feet so that when the wheelchair moves she knows he is going somewhere. When he leaves her to go anywhere, Cinder will literally sit at the door and wait for his return. Now that is true love. She honestly is the best dog I have ever had...She also is so obedient. My husband and I can walk down the street with Cinder and she will not leave our side (without a leash). No animal, car, or person will make her leave her spot. She listens so well to voice commands that I sometimes think she listens better than my daughter!!!! All in all this is the best decision we ever made as a family and I hope that if anyone out there is unsure, that they take a chance on this breed and definitely adopt a boxer. They will change your life forever.

Thank you Florida Boxer Rescue for our special gift...Cinder!!!

The Richards Family

Submitted on March 20, 2009:    Adopter:   Tonya and Jason   Boxers' Names:   Dolce and Zoe (2008)

We were so crushed when our beloved Dixie Belle (9-year-old old boxer) got her "angel wings" to a brain tumor last year. With intentions of not bringing another dog into our lives for a while and to give our hearts some grieving time, I used FBR as a therapy. I just needed to look everyday at those beautiful faces that needed a mommy and daddy. Needless to say our heart strings were pulled. Our house was so lonely without Boxer wiggles and kisses.

We adopted the two "prettiest girls" ever. Two sisters without a home. We are so happy that we found Dolce and Zoe. They are so much fun. They love puppy park, going to the beach, and riding in Mom's Jeep with the windows off. They think that's the coolest. We are daily working on manners and are getting better everyday.

I am so happy FBR did not separate these two girls and we were able to give them a home together. Gosh, if one pees the other pees. They do sneaky things (like grab cheese off the counter) and blame it on the other. Even though they look alike they are very different.

Dolce is a lover, a little more calm, does not like getting in trouble and says she is sorry when she does something bad. Zoe on the other hand is very nosey, usually gets caught even when she didn't do it, and is very sassy. If you tell her no she talks back to you...it is so funny all you can to is laugh.

Zoe and Dolce have brought us so much joy. They make us laugh every day. I have decided to put a beach umbrella in my back yard as it is nothing but sand.

Thank you FLBR for bringing us our baby girls.

Submitted on March 25, 2009:    Adopter:   Patricia T.    Boxer's Name:   Max (2001 or 2002)

We received Max as an owner surrender. He would not play, cuddle or any of the normal boxer traits but we loved him anyway. We didn't push the issue, anything the "Moose" wanted to do was okay, he was like having furniture. After a year went by he finally knew that he was home and loved unconditionally and started playing, kissing, but not yet prepared to cuddle, which was okay. Then the previous owner's boyfriend found us and wanted the dog back which was just NOT going to happen. We called an attorney who assured us that no one could come take the dog. Well that trauma passed, the years passed and we are still blessed to have the "Bigger the Moose Man" in our lives. He loves to sun himself by the pool on sunny days or sleep on the bed on his back when it is hot by the pool. Every night when we get home from work Mooser is there to greet us with his "thing" which is the toy of the day. We thank God and Florida Boxer Rescue daily for bringing our Mooser to us. As soon as we get a little more computer literate we will send before and after pictures. You folks should be very proud of the work you do.

Sincerely,

Pat T.

Submitted on March 25, 2009:    Adopter:   Helen R.    Boxers' Names:   Mr. Glover and Heisman (2004 and 2007)

I just wanted to let you all know what a joy these two have been. Suzanne, Heisman still hasn't grown up and I don't think he ever will. He is constantly getting into trouble, then acting like a perfect angel and trying to make it look like Mr. Glover and Jewels were the guilty ones. He even gets the grand old man Glover running occasionally. He makes 5 laps of our back yard and Glover makes 1/2 lap, but for him that is something! Jewels, a county rescue, is still the queen of it all, except when Heisman pulls her around and takes her collar for a run. Melissa, I still remember driving 90 miles to Lakeland and telling myself over and over again, no more older dogs. Then losing my heart to Mr. Glover. I have learned to never say never again, thanks to you and Mr. Glover.

Here is to getting all the deserving Boxers out there into loving homes. Even if they can drive you nuts occasionally.

Helen R.

P.S. I can never forget the ones from you all that have crossed the rainbow bridge either. In loving memory of Richard Nixon, Princess and Dolly.

Submitted on April 11, 2009:    Adopter:   Jim and Maria B.   Boxer's Name:   Bailey (2002)

"I just read the very nice Tampa Tribune article today about a blind boxer given a “forever home” by the kind souls of Florida Boxer Rescue. It has prompted me to send you a long overdue update on our angel, Bailey, which we adopted from Florida Boxer Rescue back in March 2002.

When we got Bailey from you, he had steel plates in both of his back legs from being hit by a car and being abandoned/surrendered by his owner. A year or so after we got Bailey, he developed a very aggressive form of cancer in his back hindquarters—in the same general areas where he has his plates. Well, he had several surgeries to take care of all the bad stuff, and I AM VERY HAPPY TO SAY THAT SEVEN YEARS LATER NOW---HE IS STILL WITH US AND GOING AS STRONG AS EVER. He just got back from his walk this morning (full of spunk) and even got up on his hindquarters (with his front paws on a Live Oak trunk---trying to get a closer look at a squirrel that ran up the tree)!

Here are a couple of photos of Bailey. One photo captures him doing “his shuffle” in a local park---kicking around leaves with his hindquarters when he goes for his walks---and one of him with a toy---which is always in his mouth. He even falls asleep many nights with a toy in his mouth!

Thanks for everything that everyone at Florida Boxer Rescue does to give dogs like Bailey a second chance in life."

Submitted on June 12, 2009:    Adopter:   Corey   Boxer's Name:   Dottie-Mae

"I have never owned a boxer 'till about a year ago. I have had friends that owned them, but never thought much of them until...

My father found Ms. Dottie-May running in and out of traffic in my neighborhood. She was skin and bones with huge fleas all over. He brought her home and we took her to the local vet to see if she belonged to anyone. She weighed 40 pounds, had infection in her one ear, and worms. She looked like could have only been a year old. We found out she was chipped, and she belonged to someone who rescued her through this boxer rescue. Shortly later, we found out" ... "she was being passed down from friends to more friends. This poor girl has never had a real home. Also, she was around six years old. SIX! I was stunned; she was so small! During this whole time with her, we created this inseparable bond. I realized I wanted her, and I wanted her to have a "real" home. The Boxer Rescue let me keep her, and I was ready to give her that loving home she never had.

It has been a little over a year since I have owned her. Her and my rescued cat Jazmine gets along a little too well. They both sleep together and give each other kisses. I live on the golf course, so she loves to play ball and run like crazy. They say you can't teach an old dog a new trick, but they are wrong. She has learned never to cross the street unless I command her to. I really don't know what I would do without her. She is always so happy! She makes me laugh every day with her goofiness. Oh, and she has gained 10lbs since I have had her. I'm so happy we found each other, and she has added so much excitement to my life.

I learned to love the boxer breed and will probably always own one now.
Thank You!"

Submitted on June 19, 2009:    Adopter:   Cindy   Boxer's Name:   Clifford (2009)

My name is Cindy and I am the proud mom of Clifford. He was the perfect new addition to our family after the loss of our last Boxer of 9 years. It was very hard to make the decision to get another baby in the house. Claire was absolutely wonderful in working with me to find him and Veronica actually met me in Seminole to see Clifford for the first time where, by the way, he loaded up and got in my truck and went home with us that night! Just wanted to let you know that I advertise for you ALL the time and sing FLBR.org's praises. I only wish I could have taken another one. He knows his commands and was already crate trained too. Someone gave up a precious, loving baby. I want to send a new picture of Clifford soon for you to publish as he has fattened up and he's sooo happy.

Submitted on June 24, 2009:    Adopter:   Lynne B    Boxer's Name:   Capri (now Gracie) (2007)

Our special girl continues to brighten our home! She is a healthy 70 lbs. and is full of energy.
Her favorite thing is riding in the truck and she begins to jump and dance whenever you pick up your keys. She goes with my husband, Bill, nearly every day. We can't say thanks enough to Florida Boxer Rescue for bringing her into our family.

Submitted on June 24, 2009:    Adopter:   Jamie S    Boxer's Name:   Van Diesel (2007)

I adopted Van Diesel a few years ago mostly for a companion for my other boxer, Dina. I actually renamed Van to Rocky, since I figured he's deaf and doesn't know the difference anyways! He is such a great dog. He's a little hyper (but they all are), and he tried to run away a lot when we first adopted him, but he's much better now, and has not ran in over a year! Thank goodness, because a deaf dog is much scarier running around the neighborhood than a dog that can hear!

Rocky is great with my 1 1/2 year old little girl. He lets her step on him, sit on him, pull his ears, take his toys, and he doesn't even flinch. He is always checking on her to make sure she is ok, and seems protective of her. I know they will be great friends for years to come!

Unfortunately, Dina passed away yesterday. I am sad not only because we lost Dina, but because now Rocky is alone. She was his ears, and he always followed her around. I hope to someday get another friend for Rocky!
